My boy scratched my top screen a couple weeks ago. I'm hoping my second attempt at the 3DS goes a little better this Sunday

My son started grabbing random objects and taking them over to the hard floor and throwing them. He seems to like the results. I accidentally left my 3DS within his reach. Caught him just as he was about to throw it. He cried a little but I saved my 3DS.

Anyone have a link to the directions on how to transfer all my 3DS stuff to my XL when I pick up Sunday? I've got all the Ambassabor games, so I want to make sure I keep them on the new system.

Don't worry it's really straightforward, just go to the transfer app and it'll guide you and your pikmin minions through the entire thing.

Both the blue and red appear to look extremely nice, that's why I'm having such a hard time.
I have no idea what either color "really" looks like, as no American stores seem to have them for demo, I don't want to be stuck with the Assy-er of the 2...
Every pic and video varies so wildly - is the red deep and almost cardinal? Or is it Mario red? The blue, is it deeper in hue - like Sonic the Hedgehog? Or is it a paler shade of blue?
Sigh.
I want both but can only choose one.
You want white now, it sounds so chic - but will look disgusting over time, yellowed and dirty where the imprints are on the triggers and stuff...plus the finish is textured, so imagine what will settle into that. No thanks.

Can anyone confirm that a system transfer can be done in-store at GameStop? I might do an impulse buy on this at $100 with the trade-in offer.

Purple (the color I have), is only available in the USA/NA/CAN territory - so it might be a desirable color for people overseas?

Either find a store that's within a wifi, xfer your stuff to a spare 3DS, or bring a mobile hotspot with you. I'm doing the third option!
I'm not sure if it's a universal policy since they may not all have Wifi (which is required for the transfer).

Sigh, I don't think any of those three options are available to me. I could purchase it at full price and trade in my 3DS later on, I'm just afraid I won't get much for it. Any idea of the current going price?
You need WiFi access for the transfer. Ask your Gamestop if there's a connection.

Don't count on it. They don't have wifi at my local GS so if yours is the same, or does have it but won't let you do it, you need to find another way.
And if they do happen to let you, remember that it can take almost an hour to perform the transfer. I transferred my account to my wifes 3DS last night so I can eventually move it to my 3DS XL, and that's about how long it took to do it.

My GS offered $50 for the 3DS, add an additional $25 for some promotional deal they have for trading it in, and then they added another 20% for anything I traded in toward a 3DSXL.

Wow, I had no idea it took that long. That makes the logistics of the whole thing much worse.
It took about 35 minutes for mine, and about 50 for a friend. It takes a long ass time to do the transfer.

Hence why I sold mine through Amazon today for $120. I'll pick up my system Sunday, do the transfer, and then ship out the old one Monday.

The only way I see GS or any company allowing a transfer before trading in your old 3DS is if you take it home. If you think about what some people expect from these companies allowing them to do it off their wifi network, it doesn't make a lot of sense. If they did have wifi most likely their network wouldn't be open so they would have to setup each 3DS to use the wifi, then remove the wifi settings after each use. That along with how long it can take it makes no sense to allow people to do it in-store.
Solution? Have people pay the full price for the 3DSXL, allow them to perform the transfer at home, and then return later, trade in the old 3DS, and then refund the difference.
Yes, I have seen this before.
I like the blue itself, but the Silver just looks so much better with the black, and it looks a lot less tacky, IMO. Still have no idea why NoA would gimp consumers and give them one less color than other regions.
I'll just get the blue and wait until silver shell replacements start showing up. But who knows... maybe I'm wrong and I end up loving the blue.
Of course, I'm only going to be seeing black anyways so I'm really just complaining over something that isn't super important ;p

You are correct, sir. Here is the reasoning that changed my mind:
The way I see it, I'm going to buy a 3DS XL anyway. And like every other handheld I have purchased before it, I will eventually stop using it. That means it has a limited lifespan, and I feel like holding out for a more appealing color is not worth shortening that lifespan by several months. Hence, I'm jumping in this Sunday.
Also, I watched HD unboxing vids of the blue & black XL and it looks better than I anticipated. Still not even close to the sexiness of the full white XL, but much sexier than aqua.
Huh, you have a damn good point there man. You've just inched me a little closer to possibly purchasing a blue xl.

A 3DS trades in for $50 store credit (a major ripoff). Push them for the $100 store credit promotion, a vast majority of employees have no clue the promotion is going on. Corporate didn't send the info out until the last few days, so some employees didn't get the memo.
I'm was at the GS on McGuire AFB this morning when I preordered my XL and the girl behind the counter didn't know about it until she looked it up in the system.
Also, the deal is up to $100, obviously it'll go down based on the quality of the system and such.
But I like Electabuzz and Scyther better, and I don't like the red!

Got a black/silver XL today (I'm in Europe). The first time I've seen one in the flesh and it's absolutely gorgeous, so glad they went with a matte finish rather than glossy again and it's probably one of the best looking handhelds ever. It improves on the original 3DS in every way.

Still can't get over how much bigger the screens are, Kid Icarus is one of the games that really shines as a result of the increased size. According to Amazon the official cradle and charger are out next week for £19.99 so I'll probably get that.
I tried out Bowser's Inside Story and it doesn't look anywhere near as blurred in "full screen" mode as I was expecting.

Is there any in depth guide on how to system transfer between the original 3DS and the XL? I don't want to fuck this up.
And is there any other information on the lower screen scratching the upper screen? I know it was debatable a few pages back, but has there been anymore recent evidence that points to one or the other?

Aiight, I'm gonna kick some flava in ya ear right now:
1. Acquire 3DS+3DS-XL
2. Establish connection to a Wifi network
3. ON BOTH SYSTEMS: Go to settings, then Other Settings, then on the third screen you will find System Transfer.
4. Both 3DS's will guide you through the rest!

Thanks for all your feedback, everyone. I've been excited to upgrade to the XL ever since I played it at Comic-Con, I just wanted to make sure none of you who had already upgraded ended up regretting it.
I could pick up my XL tomorrow, a couple days early, since I the store I pre-ordered it at routinely breaks street dates, but that Kmart deal with the $20 voucher is looking mighty attractive right now... hmm. I must think on this...
