Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

I don't think there's anything in the rulebook for designing a game that says you can't have your processing done on BOTH the GPU and CPU. Honestly, I think this is ANet's way of making the game more accessible. As a result when you have one aspect higher than the other, it creates problems. I could be wrong but I don't think the game is going to do processing mostly on the GPU. I think it'll be split between the two.

That would be me

Win7 pro
4GB Ram
GTX260
AMD Phenom II x3 720 2.8ghz

Game is smooth as silk on my shitty PC

It makes no sense that I'm getting worse performance on a better rig.

That said, I haven't played since I updated to the 12.6 drivers. Hopefully that helps somewhat.

I honestly want to know what their definition of smooth is. My frame rate is largely inconsistent.

I uploaded the first version of the Music Replacement Playlist Generator. For posterity's sake (since I'll edit the links later on), here's a link to a thread I've started in the GAFGuild forums:

Feel free to tell me what you think and ask any questions.

Pretty sure this is a Retro exclusive problem.

God, I wish. :/

It's not going to happen, you should not expect it to be. Maybe in the months post release... but in a week... no you're falling into the same trap that people have before.

Well, they could always revert to the previous Stress Test (which was noticeable better). Also, the point of stress tests is to test stuff. Not to mention the huge leap between pre and post-three tests ago.

I honestly find all the races appealing aesthetically, i'll be rolling an Asura to start with purely for their wonderful animations.

Me too, but I feel I'm in the vast minority. Only ones I was kind of wary about were Norn because of redundancy, but they've slowly grown on me and their models are quite different actually.

I definitely wasn't sold on the Asura at first, but after playing one and seeing them in action I'll be playing one for sure. Hell, I've spent the last couple of days deciding whether I want to give up on my badass Charr Engineer and roll an Asura one instead... in the end though, I had to go with the Charr. He just looks too cool; http://i.imgur.com/LRBqF.jpg?1

OK, I think that pic just sold me on Charr Engi as well.

Yes, it's beautiful, but am I the only one who thinks the game is poorly optimized/does not make good use of your GPU?

It's all over the place, varying wildly between zones, particular stress tests, and rigs. One thing is for certain, it's not very taxing on the GPU, but I think it's because of the Umbra Engine, which culls a lot of unnecessary stuff to be rendered. Of course, the calculation of what to cull is what's taking up so much processor stuff and making it a bottleneck.

The thing is, if they can program at least part of the Umbra engine to execute on the video card (they have dedicated programmable processors now), we should see a HUGE increase in performance, especially on high end rigs.

Yeah so is this actually confirmed and true or still a relic of the first BWE and just guesswork by players?

It always comes up again and I didn't see any actual confirmation of it.

As I mentioned before, I think it's been confirmed that the bottleneck is the amount of queries for stuff to be culled, which I understand is CPU-side currently.

What in the blue fuck am I reading.

What in the blue fuck am I reading.

Just my thoughts? I'm not saying it's normal or it's wrong. I'm just saying this is possibly why they're doing it. Just because they're doing something unorthodox doesn't mean it's bad and/or wrong. That's all.

So do warriors only get access to a total of 10 unique class unique skills at any given time? One for each set of equipped weapons?

All other five skill slots (healing, 3x utility and elite) are choosen from a large pool of class unique abilities as well. They also get a Burst Skill for each weapon set. Otherwise, yeah, they work like all other classes except Engi and Ele. Not sure if you're seeing something different here.

5 per weapon set, plus 1 for each set's Burst from main hand, plus 5 utility. Potentially others from slotting Rampage form (5 temp skills) or a banner (5 skills while carrying).

A few other classes have a few skills that give another set of skills as well - Guardian Tomes for example.

Warriors have an elite which will change your five weapon skills, kinda like the Guards tome elites.

You left off the best part; it makes you grow into a giant juggernaut and lets you stomp people into paste.

Ye there are too much skills on this game it's crazy. ^^

Ironically, considering people were flipping out that you can't customize your action bars. GW2 does away with skill bloat while letting you retain all sorts of customization.

I'm sure there are other factors as well, I'm only running the game at 1920 x 1080 (dual monitor active) and using the default settings that the game picks for me which I would assume are not at max everything.

Looks great for me but I'm sure it looks better for those on a uber rig.

I'll check my FPS if there is another stress test..assuming I can do it with the game engine

What is home world “guesting?”
Guesting on a Home World

Sometime after the release of Guild Wars 2, we will introduce free "guesting,” where players will be able to visit other worlds as guests as long as they have friends on those worlds. This feature will be free, but guest players will not be able to enter world-versus-world battles. In addition, the Power of the Mists bonuses from their home world will continue to apply to their characters.

Sometime after release? :(

Should we all roll on Stormbluff then?

I have decided to roll a "glass-cannon" rifle/sword+sword warrior as my fourth character (probably PvP-only)

high condition damage, very high crit chance + maximum crit and burst damage (for those 10k+ kill shots) and a decent amount of power - their traits are amazing for aggressive builds. This also allows me to pick 4 defensive utility skills. Has anyone played with a similar build?

Props for using the Mario & Zelda Big Band

heh, thanks

Can you play necro without pets?

when it comes to "pet" effectiveness, I'd rate the professions as follow: Ranger > Mesmer > Necro. Guardian might actually top the list, I don't know how broken the spirit weapon build really is.

Yeah I accidently killed a warrior firing a killshot once. I dropped a Feedback bubble on top of his nearby Ele ally and the warrior killshotted himself in the face.

They're most likely saying sometime after release to cover themselves in case a bug crops up and they don't have it right away.

If this were Blizzard I would suspect the feature would be added around the time of the first expansion.

But with everything we've seen so far from Guild Wars 2, and how many changes were made between the beta weekends, I have every faith that ArenaNet will deliver the service in a timely manner. It is a shame that it won't be there at launch though.

Well then they should really get to work on that /airplane emote. If that's not there, I will be extremely let down.

Oh man, I had forgotten about that. Why is this not in the game already? Why is this not in every game already?

When you purchase the game from a retailer or authorized partner, you’ll receive a serial code that you must enter at our registration page to create your account. When you create your account, our servers will perform a one-time check to make sure the serial code matches the region where you’re connecting from. We do this to support our local retail partners, and we use this information to connect you to your optimal data center, customer support team, and to ensure the correct language support. Customers in North America must register the North American version of the game, customers in Europe must register the European version of the game, and customers in other areas may register either version.

After you successfully register your Guild Wars 2 account, it becomes a global account. You can roam to any part of the world and still access the game.

I travel frequently. Will I be able to play Guild Wars 2?

Yes. The one-time verification system simply confirms that you have purchased the correct version of the game for your area of the world. Once that has been confirmed, you may play from any location you desire.

Oh shit. I bought my copy from GMG which has all its prices in USD but seems to be located in the UK with a UK support number.

I hope this doesn't screw me up on launch day.

Hell, I hope Australians buying NA copies aren't going to get screwed on launch day.

My speeds vary A LOT while patching 5kb-1.5mb(not anywhere near my cap). So I was wondering if anyone has seen any info on what ports should be forwarded?

I didn't think the GW2 downloader was a P2P system (meaning ports really shouldn't be affecting you) - this leads me to believe it's a very common port that might be closed for your system if it really is a port issue.

Try opening all of your ports (for a short while) before the next update and then download, just to see if that is it or not.
