3DS XL First Impressions/Previews

Does anyone know how much credit gamestop is giving if you trade in your 3ds but dont buy an xl?

I stopped in today and asked. Apparently $50 assuming it's in good condition, so you do want the trade in offer for $100. I asked if I could pick up an XL tomorrow at full price, do the transfer at home (since they don't have WiFi) and come back later. Technically they're going to process it as a return after I've done the transfer and re-ring it with the trade in. I know I'm being sort of a pain but hey, $50 is nothing to sneeze at.

Cash wasn't mentioned though, so I assume they can just process the refund on my credit card like any retailer.

THIS close to having one today. Toys R Us had them in the case, guy said sure you can buy one. The sign in the back said it goes on sale the 18th, but the system wouldn't let him sell it.
The older cashier working with him said she can't override the system.

As Mutagenic said, you could use cash and when you return it, they can return the $100 to you in cash. Otherwise, you might just get store credit.

Another GAFer and I are gonna go to the Nintendo World Store event tomorrow morning, is anyone else going to be there? It's mostly a "HEY THERE'S A NEW MARIO COMING OUT and this weird XL thing..." but there's gifts to people who buy it there.

Hoping for the Euro Gold Coin case, but whatever.

what a pain in the ass. Amazon has cut in half their trade in valoue on the Aqua 3DS in the last few days So now I have a Blue XL coming from best buy on tuesday and Im buying a blue one from gamestop tommorrow for the $100 credit.

For those who've been to stores in the USA today to pickup an XL...

Does it seem like there's a good supply out there? Do you think someone who did not pre-order would still be able to get one in the next couple of days?

I doubt it will be a problem. I just preordered today. When I traded in some games today at Gamestop to put down on Mario and an XL, he said both colors were available. I doubt there will be a mad rush and supply is likely good. It's just a revision, not a new console. And I was a little undecided myself but I decided the larger size would be more comfortable so I caved.

I keep accidentally pushing the volume slide up as I play, so it gets louder and louder. Especially on games like NSMB where I'm using the dpad.

When are the cradles out in Europe? And I hope there will be cradle only options, especially now it got delayed so many people will already have chargers

Edit: still 24th apparently. And still only a charger + cradle combo. Which is stupid because anyone buying a 3dsXL in the past month will already have a charger..

So, I think I'm definitely updating my 3DS to an XL tomorrow. After I transfer the system info/licenses could I just put my original card right into my new XL and be good to go? I know the XL comes with a larger card, but I'm not sure if I'm ever going to need that much space. I would just like to clear up this transfer stuff one last time before tomorrow. All downloadable e-shop games (including ambassador titles) are saved to the SD card, correct? But the license to use them is tied to the system? So, technically, after the transfer I can just put my original card in and everything will still be there, right?

Oh, and one last concern. I know I've asked this ages ago in this thread, but it's absolutely certain that log data, play coins, and all profile related things transfer? I just don't want to lose any important information or saved data during this process. Hah, I'm so completely paranoid about this kinda stuff.

Just copy all files from your current card to pc, then after you've done the transfer, copy the files to the 4GB card.

I agree about size though, I think 4Gb will be fine, I don't expect to buy retail games digitally, only smaller eshop games. I don't really understand those rushing to buy 32Gb cards immediately. Do that if/when you run out of space

I think the issue is eshop games are going to start getting bigger. The 32GB card on average is like 20 bucks so its not much of an investment and it guarantees no future issues. Plus now I can put like 8GB of MP3s on it and lots of game room heh

sorry about that :(

reminded me to lock in the trade in of $88 for amazon for the black 3ds, since you have 7 days to ship it out.

Gamestop just called me to remind me that my preorder will be in tomorrow... Silly I know, since I just preordered 3 hours ago. I chatted with the guy a bit and he confirmed that the district manager just sent out an email explaining how to offer the trade in deal while letting people keep their stuff. You get 7 days, so that will be nice, if all goes as planned.

You should also add Resident Evil Revelations to your list. Amazing game, full console RE size/experience, butim your hand. It's crazy how worthwhile and "spared no expense", Capcom funneled into the game...

Thanks, I will add that to my list as well. Appreciate the advice.

This thread occasionally sees a rogue Vita troll or two, but I'm surprised at how civil it normally is. Having fun at a reasonable price seriously bothers Sony fans.

I have a Vita as well and am loving it. This past week I picked up Gravity Rush, Y's7 and Persona 3 Portable. I really shouldn't have gotten the XL, but I'm just loving the handhelds so the backlog should keep me sated until more games come out for each.

Hopefully people aren't afraid to take a chance on the Vita either as there are a ton of good PSP games, PS1 games (hopefully 100+) a Persona 4, Ragnarok all coming soon to NA.

I still feel like it's a good time to be a handheld gamer, and let's face it, this might be the last gen of these devices and support for them. I am kind of a different story than most here though as I never had any handhelds and have the opportunity of a giant backlog of the PSP/DS that I have never experienced.

Lateral thinking with Withered Technology

Awesome games, shitty hardware (low res screens, low res cameras, shitty CPU and GPU from 8 years ago) and dumb decisions (single nub, crappy online and os). Really makes its hard to justify forking down good money for bad hardware, even if the games are solid.

I wish could play their amazing games without having to buy into their crap hardware.

It's not even up for debate at this point. It's a fact that Nintendo makes good games and crap outdated hardware that is a generation behind everyone else.

I don't know why reporters never challenge Nintendo to answer why
their engineers consistely insist on designing around 8 year old tech, even as multiple third party devs are practically begging them to use beefier components that give them more power and flexibility to work with.

that's awesome. I wanted to use the 2gb care in my son's fisher price iPlayer. He has too many games and not enough space on the stock 512MB card.

i wonder how many people are going to give GS the SD card for free

My 3DS is in such fantastic condition as a launch unit with all the original materials still in their bags etc manual wise and such they could probably slap a seal sticker on the box and sell it new and no one would know the difference.

Knowing GS they might lol.

To confirm the system transfer stuff too.

The Manager at my local store had sheets printed out with the instructions and specifically said there were 2 options. They would do it in store for you right there or you could buy the XL full price and then bring the 3DS back in to get the credit. So it seems they are on the ball now.

Could I get some impressions that compare how DS games look on this versus the DSi XL?

I still own the latter, and find it a much better DS experience than playing DS games on the 3DS. I'm curious if the 3DS XL is as equal to or better.

What is the alternative? Build something as powerful as a Vita and have it bomb? Nintendo does what they need to in order to sell consoles. If third party devs are crying out for more power, why aren't they developing games for the Vita instead of leaving it to die?

It would probably work out better if people didn't cater to the trolls. If you ignore them, they eventually go away.

I own both handhelds and will obviously buy the XL tomorrow.

I bought the 3DS for Street Fighter. I bought the Vita for Ultimate Marvel. That doesn't stop me from enjoying other games on the system but I found it reason enough to make the purchase.

Just called, they just got an email that says that a 3DS toward an XL will give you $100 toward it, and you will be able to take an XL home, transfer the info, then bring both in and they will refund you the $100.

I don't consider Nintendo to be a generation behind in portables they have done a full generational leap with every portable since the Gameboy Color. Check it out:

Gameboy Color - About on par with NES visuals
Gameboy Advance - About on par with SNES visuals
DS - About on par with N64 visuals
3DS - About on par with Gamecube visuals

On the console side they skipped a leap with the Wii. The most interesting thing is that the power differential between Nintendo's portables and their consoles is one generation closer then it used to be. When the N64 was out, GBC was two generations behind (NES), when the Gamecube was out, GBA was again two generations behind (SNES), but since the Wii didn't step up in terms of visuals the DS and 3DS are only roughly one generation behind the Wii and Wii U respectively (if you consider the Wii U to be in the same league as the 360/PS3).

The 3DS will be two generations behind again with the release of the Wii U. It is a big improvement over the Wii and has visuals comparable to the PS3 and 360.

Do you think most gamestops will have this tomorrow? I'll like to just walk in and grab on and be on my way, and not be asked "well did ya preorder?!"
