Thats probably why. Cant get my PC to recognize the SD card that came with the XL.

Thats odd. Maybe try wigglign the card around a bit. The contacts might not be connecting properly. I have to hold my card in place in my macbook or the contacts wont stay connected

how to transfer without whipping out my source 3DS?
Set aside plenty of cash to rebuy everything, meticulously retrace your steps in your games, and recreate all Miis and redo/collect everything you did in Mii Plaza. And other crap I can't remember.

You have no practical choice: get that 3DS out.

You switched the memory card over though, right? I want to use the 4gig card that came with the XL but for some reason I can't copy my stuff over via my USB adapter.

I copied my memory card to the new one first. Did the transfer, then it asked me to swap...I didn't think I'd have to since I had already copied my SD card to the new one but the XL kept telling me no SD card was found, so I had to swap anyway. The system was satisfied with this and "found" my card once I'd swapped. Once it was all done I just swapped the SD card with the new one and the XL never knew the difference.

Convoluted. I hope that made some sense haha

um... i was browsing the eshop and some nes virtual console games allow me to redownload them, as if ive bought them before. cept i havent. im not an ambassador either.

us this some weird xl promotion?

EDIT
HOLY CRAP!
suddenly im an ambassador, even thouh this is a new 3ds x. i just check my download history, and there is an ambassador certificate and the 20 games... holy crap! i had a regular 3ds that i used to system transfer, but it was purchased post price cut so i shouldnt be an ambassador. Everyone who did a system transfer should see if they're suddenly ambassadors too.

I haven't checked my sound yet, from both speakers clearly...

But mine is the same. The left nubby, doesn't quite sit flush and also has a loud snap/click on the right.

...but the right side has the internal hinge locking mechanism, they adjusted the torque according to the Iwata asks...

So unless it really does damage, you'll have 15 months of warranty if you register your serial number through Nintendo.

Lastly, I tried putting pressure on my XL, the screens do not touch - I can see empty space between them and the borders.

Should I contact Gamestop or Nintendo to talk to them about my 3DS?

Does anyone know if Gamestop would let me exchange my XL for another?

Thank you, I have never played a Zelda game to the end, should I get it on 3DS ?

Ocarina of Time is a good intro to 3D Zelda games. The 3DS version is polished quite a bit more than the original, but it does show age in a few areas, notably Hyrule Field. If you've never touched a 3D Zelda before though, it will all be extremely fresh to you, so I think you'll really enjoy it. Keep an eye out on sales, because Ocarina frequently drops to $29.99, or below.

o.o

Oh yes, I've decided to keep my XL naked. Don't like how the screen protectors distort images (was a problem on my Galaxy S phone as well, until I took the protector off).

So I still don't quite understand...why did people find the old 3DS so uncomfortable, and why is the 3DS XL more comfortable? It's about the same to me.

The only thing I heard about the Hori ones for the XL is that it can be an actual remedy for the yellow temperature of the screens.

I'm reading some people are having to redownload their ambassador games? I transferred everything over all at once, didn't have to download anything again......

I think I mentioned this in the earlier parts of the thread, but yeah. I mean, my account transferred to the 3DS XL without an issue. The thing for me was then copying what I needed to the 16 GB SD card I have that I sure as heck wasn't giving GameStop upon trading my old 3DS to them. I thought once I copied the newest data on the 4 GB to the now formatted 16 GB I'd be ready to go. Nope. I'm still DLing everything: purchased games, NES/GBA Ambassador games, DSi Ware software. I'm just glad I didn't lose everything.

Does anyone else's 3ds xl make a loud cracking noise at the hinge when opening and closing it?

Here's a vid of mine doing it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3c34mrSFcU

It sounds like it's only coming from the right side of the system.

I also noticed that my XL doesn't close flush. The left side of the system doesn't even touch the bottom half when closed, but the right half does.

EDIT: The sound on the right side is also not as loud as the left side. Looks like I got a messed up XL :(

That's how the XL sounds when it opens. If you open it all the way, you'll hear it pop/crack 3 times.

So, uh, where are my ambassador games? I did a transfer from my 3DS to the XL, but none of the ambassador games made it apart from Four Swords. I couldn't find them on the old SD card (which has since been formatted), so I have no idea what happened. Am I supposed to download them again (can I even?) or has something gone wrong?

On your old SD card apparently. If you want to use em on the 4GB, just move them to your PC and then to the new card. Either that, or just go to eshop download history and redownload everything missing. I'm doing so for my ambassador/3DS/DSware stuff now.

I would see someone not enjoying the screen being blown up to the size it is. It really does make you release how ugly the models in Mario Kart 7 are, but then again, 3D Land and Theatrhythm look brilliant on it.

People upgrading should really be doing it for the comfort though. The original 3DS is a hand destroying monster, and the XL is bliss.

We'll definitely have to agree to disagree. I find the XL uncomfortable and unwieldy, while the original feels just right to me.

Those games are on the SD card, which you're supposed to swap over after the transfer. Did you back up the contents of the card before formatting it? If not, you'll have to download them again. At least you have download later feature now. :P

You seem to be in the minority, but I could see someone not likely the size. People should try to check out a demo unit before purchase.

Huh. Could've sworn it told me the SD card was virtually empty, but either way I'm just re-downloading them now. Fortunately I didn't have any important saves going. Thanks for the answers.

Just tried my XL and I notice a little orange spot on the bottom screen whenever screen goes black. Is that a dead pixel?

A dead pixel wont light up. Sounds like you have a stuck pixel. Some sites recommend massaging the area of the screen where there pixel is located. Try that and if it doesnt work, I'd return it. For 200 bucks you should be 100 percent happy.

$200, or five copies of Champion Jockey. Right, SpaceBridge? :P

How do I get all of my data onto the 4GB card? Do I need to use a computer to do this?

If you are transferring over, then yes some data will be on the SD card. It would be good to back up your SD card at any rate. If you don't feel like doing it right now / can't, just swap in the old SD card until you have the chance.

Just got my system earlier today, didn't know about the free game thing from GameStop. I called them up and the herp-derp worker there didn't even bother to look it up. Said he never heard of it and that it must be an online only deal.

Anyway I love the screens, the best part to me is how great the regular DS games look at 1:1 aspect ratio. It looks like they run at the exact same size as my DSi. :D

What free game? I got an XL there today and didn't hear anything about that.

My wife picked up the red/black version at Fry's earlier today. It's a beautiful piece of hardware.

The screens are huge.

Yes unfortunately.

I'll try the wiggle trick because I really want some of the 3D photos I took, as well as the sound files.

Steel Diver/Pilotwings deal still going on.

Ah ok, I'll have them check tomorrow when I go back to get my 100 from my 3ds, I called and they said it only works on regular 3ds's, but they probably just don't know.

This is insanity!

When transferring, does the original 3DS get "untied" from my Club Nintendo account?

That's how XL's sound when you open them, the positions the screen locks into are much tighter in how they lock, we have 2 the both sound the same.

Just went to walmart and pricematched the Fry's price (even though there's no Fry's within 400 miles of me). As an added bonus, for some reason the cashier entered in $19.99 for NSMB2 instead of the Fry's advertised price of $29.99, so I got $40 off total for a Blue 3DS XL and NSMB2. Not complaining. =)

Now I'm doing a system transfer from my Zelda 3DS to the 3DS XL. (My 2nd transfer... makes me nervous that there's a finite amount, but I guess that's how it goes...)

Things are looking up today.

Oh yeah, the blue 3DS XL is SOOOOOOOOOOOO sexy in person. I love how smooth it is... Feels great, looks great. I'm pleasantly surprised by the whole thing. Love it.

Picked mine up. Couldn't resist since it was only $100 for the upgrade (traded in my 3DS).

Anyway, impressions/thoughts:

- The screen quality is crummy. Perhaps, terrible even. The colors don't pop, the contrast is unimpressive. The pixel density is terrible... but I expected that. Anyone who has seen a "retina" display or the Vita can not deny how poor this screen is. On the flip-side, I kind of enjoy how crummy it is. It feels like a toy, not a cutting-edge electronic... and that's okay with me considering I have the other stuff.

- System transfer was absolutely stupid. It requires a wi-fi connection so if you're trading in your 3DS you'll have to work something out with the store owner. The Gamestop I went to didn't have wifi so we had to walk to a cafe and use their free wifi. The transfer took about 30 minutes and I barely had anything on my 3DS. How ridiculous is that?

- The Red actually looks decent. I went with it since I had the blue 3DS and wanted a something different. The machine is decent looking overall but, again, it's really cheap looking. The rounded edge that borders the analogue stick is particularly goofy. Like I said earlier, though, it kinda works somehow. It feels really nice in my hands too.

- I am still in disbelief that Nintendo didn't improve the camera. That's one of the things they could have improved upon that would not have divided the market. Especially since they like the AR stuff. It would make a massive difference with those games.

- New Super Mario Bros 2 is boring me. A particularly bland looking game too... I never cared for the art style they push for the casual demographic. I went back to Super Mario 3D land to finish up the last 5% or so and have been having a blast. Ah well.

Thanks for that input. So many positive things have been said in this thread, it's always refreshing to get a different opinion. I 100% agree about the system transfer, it's the dumbest goddamn process I've ever come across. Hopefully they fix that someday.
