3DS XL First Impressions/Previews

How long did it take to update the XL for most people? I'm sitting in a coffee shop next to my GameStop so I can not return for a while after transferring my data.

30ish minutes. The first 5 minutes of which I thought the Pikmin were cute. The next 25 minutes I was just cursing Nintendo.

As far as cases go, I'm waiting for a nice hardcase to come out. Hopefully soon. There's been enough reports that carrying the XL in a pocket can cause scratches for me to worry. A good hardcase will prevent that and give me peace of mind until Nintendo can eradicate the screen-scratching issue for good on the 3DS line.

Honestly there hasn't, out of all the thousands of people currently with an XL how many have you seen post up (or just make comment online somewhere) about getting scratches? Even if it was 50 instances that's still a very very small fraction of the of the overall amount of people with the system. It would be one thing if 1-5 people (or even 1-20) were seeing it but it's nowhere near that bad.

Don't take this the wrong way though it's obviously an issue for some and it would be nice if they addressed it but to claim that it's a large enough issue seems hyperbolic. Also look at it this way, I know it's a pain but if you get one now and you actually do get scratches they'll fix it.

Saw this in person for the first time today. Screens are nice, but fuck, the colors are AWFUL. Will not buy until all black is available.

Revelations has a pretty meh IQ to begin with. I haven't played it much on the XL yet and it's been a while since I played it on my old 3DS, but wasn't there dithering on the original 3DS as well? I'm pretty sure there was.
What the hell is dithering? How do I see it on my XL? Should I even want to see it? See it can then never unsee it?

Maybe I don't wanna know....

:p

But I do wanna know...

Maybe...

I upgraded mine this morning.

Sound is really terrible. I tried stereo and even mono but I can hardly hear anything on this thing. And what's with battery on this thing? I left it on charge after testing it out for 10 minutes and red light is still on after 5 hours. I think original 3DS turned the red light off once it was fully charged.

I was looking to get a vita, but I think I'm going to consider picking up the 3ds XL instead. I was in the store and I tried out the regular 3ds and the 3d hurt my eyes, but I'm thinking that with the bigger screen it should be better, plus I could also play the games that I want to play in 2d. There's no rush though; I'm willing to wait for a bundle.

I just completed the system transfer from my launch 3DS to my new XL. However, it tells me to use my original SD card in the new system rather than the new card. I'd rather keep the new card, since it's 4GB rather than 2GB. Is there a workaround? Can I just copy the files to the new SD card?

Been playing Mighty Switch Force today and I feel like I'm playing a new game. The beautiful hand-drawn style benefits so much from the large screen.

I can't friggin' wait for WayForward's Adventure Time game.

Yeah you can, just copy the files over to the new card and pop it in.

On your computer, copy the files off the 2gb card and put them on the 4gb card. You should be golden after that.

Anyone got the little 'uneven cuts' or w/e on their circle pad?

Probably the only part that i feel... a bit cheapened. But screen and everything else is fine, and my thumb will be over this anyhow.

Looks like I was taking your posts way too seriously and have also come across the wrong way myself, and I apologize.

I think I was taking more offense to the suggestion that 'hardcore' gamers were some shunted minority that Nintendo was continually discounting. Then again, you could point to any number of boneheaded moves N has made in the last seven years and use that as reasoning that they have abandoned 'real' gamers in search of the ever-growing casual dollar.

Fair enough. Truce?

I don't think they abandoned hardcore gamers.nthey just know we'll be there anyway, so they can focus on casual gamers and get both sets of consumers,

Yeah no problem. Just do as said (tranfare and excange the sd card), after that put the 2 gig one in your pc, copy the WHOLE file structure over and copy it over to your 4 gig card.

insert it to the xl aaaaaaand done.

I would recommend to look at both game lists and choose using that, I have both but to me the 3D is the worst thing about the 3DS, Both systems have some amazing games to play.

Anyone else already miss the Mario Kart wheel accessory?

Hope they make a XL version asap :( That thing made the 3ds feel so good in my hands.

That thing was fantastic, the only way to confortably play my original, but after almost a month with the XL I can't say I miss it, it's very confortable on its own.

My XL has a warmer temperature than my regular 3DS. But, my regular one had a blue tint. The result is blues look better on the old screen, but all the other colors look more vibrant on the XL. It wll take some getting used to.

Besides just being warmer, does anyone know if the color temperature is more accurate compared to the old 3DS? I know that when the new iPad out, some people complained about the more yellow color temperature, but it also had the most accurate one yet.

Is Mutant Mudds worth the purchase?

Yes, yes, a million times YES! If you're a fan of old-school platformers, Mutant Mudds is the single best original game on the eShop. Yes, even including Mighty Switch Force and VVVVVV (which, don't get me wrong, are also excellent).

How do I initiate a transfer from a ambassador 3ds to my XL?

With both 3DSes, go to System Settings > Other Settings > System Transfer, and follow the prompts that follow. Done!

When Resident Evil Revelaitons came out, I didn't really like it, but thinking back on my experience with the original 3DS, I didn't really like playing any games on it. I don't think I had a problem with the screen size or even holding the thing, but it could be totally possible that those were the reasons I was having, subconsciously.

I'd be able to buy one tomorrow, if I can find any. I was originally going to wait because of the Castlevania delay, but there's a lot of great games already, and some that I haven't even played yet like Kid Icarus, and some that I would perhaps actually enjoy more on the new hardware.

Before heading out to Walmart last night, I put up a listing for my original 3DS with 3 games (Lego Star Wars, Rayman, and Dead or Alive) for $140, sold it less than a day later today for $130.

Oh, and I'm not doing anything ever again with Game Stop... I went to get my preorder money back since I purchased the XL at Walmart last night, and the girl at the register told me that unfortunately since the system is now out, she cannot give me the money back or in-store credit, that the money can only be transferred towards other pre-orders... I was so annoyed. I did the same thing with my original 3DS, and this didn't happen. I guess their policy changed because she gave me the "empathetic" sorry-I-cannot-give-you-the-money-I-could-get-fired-for-this excuse. -__- Whatever, I ended up paying Pokemon Black 2 in full, and putting the remainder 13 bux towards Paper Mario. Are any of you familiar with this happening to you in the past?

This isn't true, I had moved from Savannah to Orlando, and had an NCAA preoder that I didn't pick up, and while I was back in Savannah visiting friends this weekend I was able to cancel it without hassle. The chick didn't wanna lose a preorder.

Has anyone had experience with 'anti-glare' screen protectors and either 3ds model? I'm trying to decide between the standard Hori screen protectors and the anti-glare screen protectors, but I'm concerned the surface of the 'anti-glare' might interfere with gameplay on the touch screen.

I'm loving the XL. Build quality is better, bigger screens, easier to hold, etc.

The 3D effect is the same to me.

The only thing I'm disappointed in is the sound. Max volume on the 3DS XL = 50% volume original 3DS.

Giving me flashbacks of getting a Game Boy Color and being disappointed in the sound after coming from my Game Boy Pocket since the Game Boy Color didn't have great sound either (was very low in volume).
