Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

Hah, same here. Gonna spend those glorious 4 hours perfecting the character I want so that I can quickly reserve names come release night.

your name gets saved to your account for 24 hours. So if you are worried about names, skip all the steps and put in your name and create your character. After youve got all your names, delete the character and start creating it the way you want to

Why couldn't they make the stress test a little bit later? I have work and will only be play for a couple of hours. Sigh. Better than nothing I guess. Friday can't come soon enough.

So guys on the topic of keyboards, Microsoft SideWinder X4 vs Saitek Cyborg V5/V7?

Sidewinder can be bought for £29.99, Cyborg V5 around £35, Cyborg V7 £50.

I love my Corsair Mechanical keyboard!

I wish I had the money for a K90. I settled with a Sidewinder X4 - it's not mechanical, but it's a great keyboard.

Can't afford to go mechanical :( I just need a decent upgrade from my wireless logitech wave. Wireless blows.
X4 is a safe bet. Had it about 3 months now, no complaints.

Has anyone played a Necro? I did not get to play during a BWE and I am still bouncing toons in my head!

Try them tomorrow during the stress test if you are able to, I haven't tried them myself, might tomorrow though, my friends aren't interested in the class and I want to see if they bring anything great to a team.

I have pretty much exclusively, but Anet keeps changing shit, so I'm not sure which build I'm going for. Bleed builds are good, and in the last test the damage of wells were improved significantly, so I want to test out a few different well builds, ie. survival vs crit.

I work tomorrow during the test (and sit in traffic after) Could you please post your impressions if you get a chance? I will be monitoring this thread! (as always)

I haven't seen confirmation from Anet that it works like this in GW2, but I also haven't looked for it. Its been mentioned enough in this thread that I assume there's official word on it somewhere.
It definitely worked this way in GW1 so I assume it'll be the same for 2 as well, could always try testing it out in the stress test.

if you follow all the links you eventually get to the offical forum that is closed, so im assuming its legit

Looks like I need to update my client so I can get in on the test tomorrow. If I can actually get logged in and play I may try the engineer but as of right now I am really thinking about making the guardian my first character.

if I pre-ordered from newegg, I'm assuming that means that I can't get in on the head start? is that only for digital preorders from arenanet?

Is this a good speed for the GW2?

Woo! Pre purchased the game today. As a guy who loved guild wars 1, will I be blown away Saturday night?
It depends. If you're optimistic and open to a game that plays almost completely differently from GW1, yet still retains a lot of its charm, then you should have a good time. However I know some of the die hard GW1 players I played with during the beta weekends were not digging it, mostly because of the fact that it plays so differently.

Got my Razer Blackwidow mechanical keyboard for like $50 on sale. Don't think it's much more regularly. Highly recommended.

Will this game play well on the Mac book pro? I just bought a brand new 13" pro and I would love to get this game, but I'm concerned that it wont look and play well on a laptop.

It runs great on mine or at least it has in betas that I have played in. Mine is a year old 15" 2.2 GHz i7 with 8GB memory.

I have bootcamp yes. Shoot .
I am running it on my bootcamp partition on my MacBook Pro.

Any certain drivers or updates I need before I start worrying about this stuff last minute?

Not me, but my partner plays GW2 on his iMac. It has a nice video card so it runs well. What hardware do you have?
2 year old iMac.
Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPU 540 @ 3.07GHz
4 GB RAM(2.99 GB usable) I have no idea why it says that....
ATI Radeon HD 4670

Don't know if that's good or not, hopefully I can play on average settings atleast...

You'll definitely want to be up to date on graphics drivers to improve performance. There aren't GW2-specific drivers yet, but the official Apple Boot Camp drivers are always way behind the official AMD ones.

For the most part I think drivers are taken care of by bootcamp assistant. I haven't done anything but just partition and use bootcamp assistant to install Windows 7 on mine.

Or I guess you could look for updates. On mine I haven't had problems but I think all the betas I played in just used the CPU and not GPU.

The reddit mentality of cutting a face off of something and pasting it on everything, then spamming the images is not funny. Just had to say. There is no intrinsic comedic value in repetition.

Don't use Bootcamp Assistant for your graphics card.

Missed it by that much.

(Assuming you have access to the 3-day headstart, and if you don't, why not?)

Official Thread goes live TONIGHT!

GAFGuild Mega-Awesome Pre-Launch Super-Countdown Festival of Hype Mumble Meet & Greet Event!
Here's another opportunity for everyone to hop on Mumble and get to know their future guildmates before launch. Even if you don't have a microphone, you can still participate since Mumble has a chat window. If you don't want to speak up, that's fine too; talking is not mandatory and you're welcome to just log in and listen (keep the creepy stalker breathing to a minimum though).

The event will begin on Friday, August 25th at Midnight (9PM on the 24th Pacific, 4am GMT) and run for 3 hours. At this point, the game launches and everyone officially has license to freak out. This event is strictly B.Y.O.K (Bring Your Own Kool-Aid). Please note that ArenaNet has stated they may start the game up to 3 hours early, so you might as well get on mumble and spam the Login button with the rest of us.
