I know this probably isn't the 100% appropriate thread, but does anyone know if the fact "Yoshi's Island 2" had its name changed to "Yoshi's Island DS" means this copy of "Yoshi's Island 2" is worth anything? The only thing I can find is that it was changed two weeks before release, and I literally couldn't find any copies of the "2" version after about 15 minutes of Google-fu. Thoughts?

Huh... that's indeed really bizarre. I don't know where that game would have come from, because the game's name definitely was changed to "Yoshi's Island DS" before release and, as far as I'm aware, it goes by that name in every territory. I'm stumped.

Very mysterious indeed.

That's a bummer, I was hoping to play Pokemon Black 2 on it.

The upscaling doesn't really bug me too much, I'm finding myself changing my opinion from game to game, but I believe the 1:1 mode is now bigger than anything other than a DSi XL, so it's still hardly a poor option even if the upscale drives you nuts.

That picture looks like a fake copy to me. A US game in a clear case, and what's that text above the '2'?

Ya I'd say a fake copy or maybe just a printed cover job for a cart only copy of the game someone had and they used a botched cover they found on the net or something.

I swapped my Silver 3DS XL yesterday for a red one with New Super Mario Bros. 2 as I had two duplicate games to trade in and it worked out I'd get NSMB2 for no extra cost.

I much prefer the red. The silver looks very dull and the red is so bright and wonderful.

One my main issue is that the screen is so up and down in terms of quality. It's difficult to not at look my Vita and feel a little disheartened when looking at the large 3DS XL screen. I know I shouldn't but I can't help it.

The screen sometimes flickers a bit when you have 3D on but the actual 3D effect is much nicer on the larger screen.

Depending on the game, the large size can hinder visuals. New Super Mario Bros. 2 looks fantastic but Super Mario 3D Land looks a bit stretched out. I hope that games coming out will look good on the bigger screen :)

I'm happy with it though! I've kept my old red 3DS just incase but I love the shape and feel of it. The weight is lovely and the buttons feel great!

I think it's exactly the same size as the DSi actually, but that was a subtle-yet-significant upgrade in size over the prior DS models and even the 3DS itself. It's half of why I prefered to use the DSi for DS games, I get full quality AND a bigger pair of screens, and for most games where the analog stick is far from preferable it's more comfortable to use. This negates the size issue, but I'll probably still prefer a DSi for most DS games.

I don't know about anyone else, but I think DS games on this thing looks immensely better than on the OG 3DS. Not debating if it looks better than the DSi XL, 'cause I'm sure it doesn't but I popped in a few DS games yesterday and was actually really happy with how each game looked. If anyone owns Kirby Mass Attack, pop than in to see what I'm talking about.

My two babies.

I would love to see the ones who say they don't have the yellow tint to post pics.
I don't believe I have the yellow tint.

You do, and it's normal. All XL screens are warmer than the 3DS screens.

I woke up and my XL had a green light! It finally streetpassed after not working with my bf's new XL after we both transferred over.

I know at least one other person was having this problem in here. What I believe did the trick was one of us erased all the others previous streetpass mii's from the Plaza. We would ocassionally change mii's for streetpass so we had to erase a few of them. We only did this for one unit, not sure if it's because that specific XL we messed up the transfer somewhere along the line or what but it worked.

Glad I don't have to format the damn things or send them in ;)

My local Fry's is sold out of the 3ds xl. I wonder how many they stocked? I'm glad I got mine right when they opened on Sunday. Any other anecdotal retail musings on how the xl is doing?
Gamestop near me was sold out on launch day. I got mines at Target, I was the first person there and they did not have them out on the shelves yet. A worker went and fetched them for me. They received 8 units (4 red and 4 blue).

I still love my Vita, but this system will definitely be competing for my time now with the Vita easily.
That's been the best part for me, I also have a Vita and used to have the original 3DS. I could never get myself to play the 3DS though because the Vita experience was sooo much better. I'd play the 3DS for like 15 minutes and be like "what am I doing?" and then I'd drop it in the dock and pick up the Vita. Now with the 3DS XL, I don't feel like that anymore. Vita is still nicer hardware but it's close enough that when I go to play a portable game, it's more about what do I want to play and not what hardware should I play it on (though, I have not touched my Vita since i got the XL).

Yeah okay...I know I said I'm not much for using the 3D mode on the 3DS, but man, Mario Kart 7 looks stunning on this.

Ironically, Mario Kart 7 is one of the few games I don't use the 3D on. Mostly because I can't withstand the urge to move around while playing.

Clearly a home-manufactured case. The case is also white, not black as it should be. Could be a pirated cart.

Got mine this weekend, played it a ton. Chrono Trigger looks so much better on the bigger screen. My hands don't ache after playing too long. I have no regrets.

I didn't notice any yellow tint issues on mine.

I can't believe how good Resident Evil: Revelations look on this thing... like, it looked great before, but now it doesn't looked as cramped as it did before.

I might get heat for saying this, but I think it's a better looking game than Uncharted Golden Abyss. If not better, right on par with it.

Well, from an artistic point of view, there's nothing wrong with that opinion (it does look awesome), but technically speaking, Uncharted is in another league.

I think plenty of Wii games look better than PS360 games -- Kirby's Epic Yarn is my graphical showpiece of the generation -- so nope, nothing wrong with that opinion at all.

Sure, but you are going purely on artistic merit (subjectivity) rather than an objective way of looking at things

I think in the end, it doesn't matter how many shaders, or lighting effects is on the thing, but how I enjoy it while looking at the thing. So yeah it's pretty obvious a powerful hardware has more to it than a underpowered hardware, but in the end is the art behind it that defines the quality in aesthetics. And this will always be subjectively.

I think you are getting it too tied into your level of enjoyment with a particular game and the style of it.

There are games that are all about "style" and art, and ones that are trying to be as life-like as possible. Some people's tastes will encompass one more than the other, but that's not really what he was referring to.

I completely agree with you. They are neck and neck and if I had to pick one I'd go with RE:R (BTW, I own and have beaten UC:GA). I think the people talking about artistic vs. technical merits are missing the point. The important thing is does the game make you say "Damn, that looks good" and both technical and artistic components go into that. One doesn't have to be separate from the other. I will say that RE:R is the only 3DS XL game that I have played that I think looks as good if not better then most Vita games (I haven't played Kid Icarus or Kingdom Hearts). Even Vita games that are considered ugly like Resistance: Burning Skies (I have played and beaten that as well) look better then every 3DS game I've played . . . except Resident Evil: Revelations. That game is gorgeous . . . at least to my eyes. I think it looks better then most Wii games to be honest. It proves that with attention, care, and talent you can make an impressive looking game on lesser hardware.

My 3 year old son has started asking for a DS since other kids at daycare have one. I was looking at used ones for a cheap solution but then started thing about the 3DS XL (so I can play the new and old games). But he is only 3...is the XL too big for kid hands? I haven't seen one in store yet to try out.

I've been finding most games to be pretty nice with 3D turned on with the XL. I popped in RE: Revelaitons last night, though, and got lots of crosstalk and such. I originally had the 3D on Strong, but tried max and the lower setting and, while low setting was the best, it still had crosstalk. Might just play that with the 3D off (or maybe turned down). Speaking of which, I am able to play the XL with all other games with 3D on max with no issues.

Really enjoying that big screen. I don't play any DS games, though, so can't comment on it for that. I hate that you can't StreetPass when a DS game is loaded and therefore go without playing them, period. Sometimes I can be pretty dumb like that. ;)

Well, I do think it looks good, but the world geometry is pretty simple, shadows are very poor and limited in use, the game has a lot of color dithering, and the encounters are limited to low numbers of enemies.

It's definitely very impressive, though.

Yeah, the cross talk in RE:R is just awful on the XL. The game looks better in 2D anyways, though, thanks to AA.

Many have already talked about games that look great on the XL but one that I haven't seen mentioned yet is Dead or Alive Dimensions. Wow.

Out of my plethora of 3DS games, I think the one that saw the largest improvement, in the very best way:

Ace Combat Assault Horizon Legacy...

Already a beautiful 3DS game, but on the XL: Holy Fuck!

Glorious looking.

The UPS Man just dropped off my blue XL. The Pikmin have begun to move.

The dot pitch on the screen seems OK for my tastes. It essentially creates scanlines, lol. Waiting to try a whole bunch of games out including the ones I've been saving.

So my first XL from Target had two screens with two different color temps. Top screen far more yellow than the bottom. I decided I could live with it. Then when playing in the dark I noticed a dead pixel right in the middle of the top screen. That was enough. I can't return it yet since I transferred my old 3DS to it, but I did go get another one at Target so that when the other can be transferred again I can just transfer it and return it to Target with no worries. The new XL also has warm screens, but they're both very similar in temp. Can't tell yet if I have any dead pixels, but I still have 5 days to mess with it. Nintendo needs to get a grip on its quality control. It's sad how much variance there is between individual units of the same hardware line. And for whatever it's worth, the old one was red, the new one is blue since they were out of Red. I hate the blue. Hate it. But if it's the one that works the best, it's the one I'm keeping.

My three year old plays mine, but this kid also has a Samsung Tab 2.0. He's grown up on the stuff.

It's not really that heavy compared to the normal 3DS. I would just make sure to turn off 3D capabilities.

Still toying with upgrading soon. I play my 3DS a bit, but not all the time as I also have a 360, PS3, and Vita.

Is it worth me getting one, moving over my content from my 3DS and trading the old one in? I'll be in about $100 after all said and done right?

Hmm. Layton needs to come out ASAP.

I'm glad I did, but it's not really a big deal if you wait.

Thanks, my son also has a Touchpad from the firesale so weight isn't a factor really. More worried about the physical controls but he can grow into it.

Now its just a matter of worrying about getting a wonky system with screen issues like others...that and deciding if I should just get him a DS Lite instead for now or just paying a bit more to get the newest iteration.

I personally wouldn't waste the money on anything less than a DSi. Doesn't seem worth it.

The hardest part is getting them to take care of their things. How much pressure is enough for the touch pad, putting it away when they are done, etc.

My son loves face raiders on the 3DS and street fighter
