Got my HORI screen protectors yesterday. Anyone worried about bubbles, nasty glares, or anything negative... throw those thoughts out the window, my top screen looks amazing! I do have a tiny air bubble or two on the bottom screen still (cannot be seen when the system is turned on), but the top one came out impeccable! You can't even tell there is a screen protector on it! So if you're considering getting a screen protector, I recommend HORI.

Also, rule of thumb, always apply screenshields in dust free areas (a good alternative is steam up the bathroom). Always have scotch tape a hand to nab away at little dust particles (1 piece of tape to pick up the screen shield, 1 piece of tape to snag up the dust. easy).
Been doing this since iphone 3g, and eventually it 'clicked'. Haven't really seen a reason to pick up screen protectors for XL yet though.
I've used 3 hori pitahari screen protectors on vita/3ds/xl and I've never gotten permanent bubbles. They always happen when you first place it on, but you just fold that piece of cardboard they give you in half and squeegee them out. They come out perfectly every time.

I've seen about 6 xl's at two different walmart's in the past 2 days.
Also, to the people talking about dead pixels... I had a dead pixel right out of the box, but didn't notice until after the system transfer. So I just sent it in for repair. If it comes back still messed up (or if they didn't just go ahead and get me a new one), i'm just gonna call again and see if they'll just straight up exchange it for me. Either that or i'll probably take it to gamestop and just go ahead with the exchange there (if they're not sold out). So far this whole thing has just been a pain.

I feel fuckin dirty when I give them $10 on the card. I feel cleaner scooping cat litter with loose diarrhea.
I buy something, then when i go to buy somethin else im short a buck and Ive got to give them another 10.
Its like Las Vegas at the tables when you keep sinking deeper throwing 10's into the wind.
And CS is nonexistant, no refunds, nothing.
So whats left? $40 cartridges.
The whole model is a joke.

Yep, one guy said the store near him sold out, therefore there aren't any anywhere, right? Every Gamestop (8 of them) near me has them, every Best Buy (4) shows stock, as does every Target (5) and Wal Mart. Not to mention the fact that you can order one if you want from Amazon or Gamestop and have it delivered the next day.

Just like the Wii circa 2007 it depends on where you live. I'm visiting central Florida and they don't seem to have any at Walmarts or BestBuys here but if I check the stores back home in the DC area they're in stock everywhere.

Not sure what Nintendo was actually expecting with this launch (relaunch?). Local Gamestop got 4 XLs, and they were all for pre-orders. They didn't get restocked until about Thursday, and then they only received one of each color. They're either not selling very well or Nintendo grossly underestimated the XL's sales potential.
Not sure what market you live in, but at least in the U.S. you can pay the exact amount. No need to pay in fixed denominations.
Do you not have a credit card? If you do, the eShop system is better than any other console or handheld. Exact change, no minimum payment.
I guess there not selling well. I work a target. The day after launch they still had plenty of XL's. I kinda wish I had bought one a target instead of supporting GS.
I was pretty excited for the 3D classics and some of the downloads but I'm just sticking to cardtriges. There's no way I'm going to pay big bucks for bite-sized downloadable titles.

I guess the 3D effect an wireless do use tons of battery. I tested it on a full charge. Going on 3 1/2 hours and only lost 1 bar.
new impressions:
- backlight bleed is noticeable on the edges of the screen
- i'm finding ways to hold it that are more manageable now, my old way of pinkies supporting the bottom doesn't really work since the system is so large and the bottom edge is a little too sharp at the bottom left
- 3d is a little blurry, but i still prefer it in RE Revelations to having it off.

Is it just me, or using 3D produces way more jaggies? I normally keep it off unless its a CG scene of some sort. I guess I have crappy eyes cause I have to hold the thing close to my face to even seen the 3D, lol
A lot of games use anti aliasing with 3d off, and sacrifice AA when you turn on 3d.

Oh? The only game I've tried that has any sort of aliasing is RE demo. KH3D doesn't use it with 3D off. My XL is brand new, so it can't be faulty. But yeah, RE looks like awesome with 3D off, I'm most impressed with that game when it comes to visuals.
Even with the CPP the controls of MGS3 are shitty, seriously I'm telling you guys, stay the hell away from it until you can buy it either on vita/ps360 or get a cheap ps2 instead. Worth it 10x moreI reaaaally need to get an CPP XL and a copy of MGS3D, I've never played it (not even MGS2).

I wouldn't even call it 'bleed'. It's much more severe than that. On both of mine it's like a halo/aura around the entire two screens. It's so uniform that I assumed it was by design. Only becomes an issue on dark/black screens/scenes.
yeah that's about right. Since RE Revelations is my only game, it's pretty noticeable. Revelations doesn't look very good, still looks washed out.

Yeah, it looked washed out on the OG 3DS too, especially on the beach when you're learning to use the Genesis device. Everything's so damn brown.
I reaaaally need to get an CPP XL and a copy of MGS3D, I've never played it (not even MGS2).
Well I had zero problems playing it with the face buttons just as I had zero problems playing Peace Walker.
I prefer it a lot more than holding down L1, R1, and lightly holding square in order to aim, not to mention holding down L2 or R2 for that little extra nudge to the side to peek out the corner.
I realize there's some people who can't stand aiming with the face buttons, but for me it's really a non issue unless it's an actual shooter.

I am a big console guy (owned pretty much every console ever released in the US) but not much of a portable guy. The few portables i have owned from Lynx to Nomad to PSP havent really kept my attention for long. I have been travelling alot lately so I kind of wanted a Vita but the game lineup looks questionable for now. Plus, I have a young son whom i figure can eventually upgrade from games on my iphone/ iPad to 3dsx. So I bought one. My last Nintendo handheld was a GameNWatch from the late 70's. Ok I admit I did buy a Virtual Boy, but it wasn't really portable. Along with the system I got mk7 and nsmb2. So what do I think. Well first I am shocked at how bad the home menu navigation is. The store is especially slow, like 28.8k modem slow. The touch screen is basically unusable without the little pen thing. After coming from iPhone to this it's horribly annoying. I actually thought I would hate the graphics, but, while it's no vita I thought it was better than expected. The low res on the big screen is noticeable, but didn't distract me. 3d was awesome at times but the sweets spot is too small for me so I already play with it off after a week. The thumb pad is ok, but could be better, but I thought the overall ergonomics of the thing was week. Very uncomfortable after an our of play. The games themselves are tried and true Nintendo formula, so that was great. Overall, I am not sure what to think, I don't love it, but probably wont return/sell it.

I apologize for bringing this up again but I was wondering if anyone has noticed muted colors when playing chrono trigger DS on the 3DS XL? I don't know if its just the DS game or the 3DS XL screen. Are the colors just not as vibrant as they are in the SNES version? Please help, I'm going nuts

There was a $10 one at Gamestop that looked kinda okay. It also came with a car charger. I can't seem to find in on their website. Maybe it was the DsiXL one and I was tripping?

I just compared the game on a DSi and a 3DSXL. It definitely looks more vibrant on a DSi. Man, the DSi is the best handheld Nintendo's ever made. Perfect size, hands don't cramp when playing it, sleek looking, excellent screen color... shame they haven't really matched it since.
Do you happen to have a dsi xl to compare it with? I'm about to go buy whichever DS system is best at playing the DS version.. Haha.

No, sorry. I've only ever heard good things about the DSiXL screen though, never any complaints of washed out colors or anything. I'm sure someone else on GAF would be able to compare for you, though.
Hard. I usually play Subsistance at Extreme, but here Extreme is European Extreme so didn't feel like going through that.

Speaking of the pouches, I really like the blue XL, but my god... when I got home with it and realized that I have the RED reversible pouch... yeah
Totally didn't think about it. Like the blue plenty but if I had taken that into consideration I would have gotten the red without hesitation. I really don't want to spend 250 coins on a blue one for being stupid but I might since I missed the gold nunchuk anyway.
