GAF Plays - Grand Theft Auto San Andreas

Finally did that mission I mentioned on the last page. Had to pull into the station ahead of the train and then go above ground to get a car to trail him. Got him and his contact. Boom.

The impressions of the Mac version on the App Store have scared me off. Seems like a buggy PoS for some people.

Guess I'll wait until Rockstar and Sony get around to putting on PSN, whenever the fuck that may be.

"If you look outside your window, you'll notice your car is on fire."

"OH MY GOD!"

XD The expression on that last line always gets me.

(that's from Lonely Hearts on WCTR if you don't remember)

I have to find a mod that make the game support 1080p on pc!

Can you link me some good mods capable of doing:

-Better lighting: Only good shadow and light effects and maybe ambient occulsion, I don't want blur, plastic surfaces and other s**t. If the only mod available are enb series or icenhancer, can you give me some good configurations?

-hd textures: game texture and fonts.

-Better draw distance, but I don't want artifacts in the game.

Zero's missions are much easier on the PC. I beat it on the PS2 after about 50 tries. On PC, I'm able to do it in one try now. It's all about mapping out which van to go after first, and then not wasting fuel. Feel free to land on the ground and then fire at the vans.

On the PC it's much easier because firing is much more precise.

You need a controller though for this game IMO.

I've played/beaten san andreas so many times. Twice on PS2, at least twice on PC. I always love the game, but there are some missions that I really get tired of. Like, I really get tired of the gang missions once you've beaten the game. I hate doing a mission and getting "YOUR HOOD IS UNDER ATTACK."

Also you MUST play this game on the PC. Even the X-Box classics version on XBL is super ugly and shitty. PC makes it look pretty decent IMO.

One of the best fan-made videos ever:

That was.. awesome.

silly question, but how does this compare to saints row 2?

San Andreas is a much better game, but it's last gen, so shit is wonky. Gun play is poor and it's a PS2 game. But, the game world is a thousand times more compelling, the story is much better. But... Saints Row is a more responsive, action oriented game.

Played just last year; a little too soon to reinstall and play (also, haven't invested in a non-crap PC yet and no controller atm) but all of this talk has got me nostalgic out of schedule. Might dust off the PS2 for this.

Good memories of the Hydra.

I played this years ago when it was first released for the Xbox (Delayed Exclusive or something) and I never unlocked the next area. I was just confused with so much to do that I always got side tracked.

San Andreas is $14.99 on Steam right now. Doesn't look like it's on any kind of sale at the moment.

Summer Steam Sale last month it was about $1.98 or something stupidly low.

I can play it fine with kb and mouse but controller is fine too.

What version of the game are you using. Retail 1.0 is the only version that you can use mods with. Anything higher or the Steam version requires you do some "gray area" stuff.

Just tried it today. I don't know... the controls feel really awkward and dated. Kinda miss GPS style navigation of saints row too.
The city is nice and well built though.

I'm not even kidding when I say that playing San Andreas is one of the defining moments in my teenage years.

Wish I had the time now to play it again.

I have both, atm i have the steam version installed but i can switch to the retail one.( i own all the 4 releases of sa lol)

I have the steam version of SA

1. Does it work on Windows 7 for 1080p widescreen

2. how the fuck do I get it working with my X360 controller, with triggers working also.

1. You have to install a mod to get widescreen.

2. GTA:SA doesn't support pads. You have to download a controller emulator like Joy2Key or Xpadder.

Ok I'm in, GTAV has me all nostalgic for SA. I have this on PC but I'm gonna get the ps2 version on amazon so I can replay my save games. Oh boy so much fun i had

Please Rockstar! BRING BACK THE BICYCLE! I put hundreds of hours into San Andreas (my favorite GTA by far) and most of the time I was cruising on my bicycle.

The Retail and Steam version requires some work. You need a no-cd trick, sadly I can't help out when it comes to this but the other stuff I can. In addition you need a .ASI loader than the SA cam hack for proper wide screen and SAAC v1.2 for better controller support. I did a detailed reported about it over at wide screen gaming forum.

SAAC and Cam hack are here:

My DR is post #6:

I use the following mods.

A combo of this:

and this:

If you are willing to do all this work, which isn't much really. The game can look like this:

I'm a big fan of default stuff in HD:

I was replaying it last week and boy oh boy are the camera and weapon controls awful.

Insane amount of variety and side-missions, through.

It's my favorite GTA to date even though IV was fantastic.

Thanks . Unfortunately I only have a wireless one.

In that case you should use your PS3 controller instead. Plug it into your computer's USB slot via the charger cable.

Then as mentioned above, install MotionInJoy and create a custom button layout as follows: http://www.motioninjoy.com/wiki/en/game/guide/gtasa#motioninjoy_configuration_guidegtasan_andreas. The only bad thing is that the game only recognises your buttons as Button 1, Button 2, etc, which don't help very much at all in the in-game prompts...but so long as you can remember the original PS2 layout (X to run, Triangle to enter/exit cars, etc.) you'll be able to work it out. Here's the original control scheme in case you need it: http://gta.wikia.com/Controls_for_GTA_San_Andreas.

Absolutely agree. I was astonished by being able to see the skyscrapers off in the distance even from Grove Street. Coupled with the high-res graphics (albeit SA was never the prettiest game) it really makes the console versions impossible to go back to.

Excellent, hopefully it all works out! Let us know if you have any trouble...although you should be fine with the above instructions.

P.s. Once you're done configuring the MotionInJoy control scheme, don't forget to click 'Enable'! Easy to miss the little things.

Awesome =) Enjoy the game.

A further P.S - I'll spoiler tag in case you haven't played SA. If you have, no problem:

Later on in the story - much much later - you may have some difficulty controlling
a harrier jet
where for some reason the thrust/throttle buttons to switch between
'hover' and 'fly' modes
don't seem to fit uniquely with any buttons on the pad, so you might need to use the PageUp and PageDown buttons in addition to the controller just for this.

It's a small annoyance but the only time in the game where you'll need to be aware of the extra keys.

Is there any way to make the bike not suck on PC? Having to mash W on the keyboard is ridiculous and the right stick won't work for my pad in this game.

I was really hoping for a GAF Multi Theft Auto server, haha!

I'm actually playing through San Andreas right now just plotting along, the hype for GTA V is definitely setting in.

You lot should really check out GTA IV: San Andreas if you haven't already, it's a full map conversion of San Andreas into the IV engine. Fun as with the whacky physics!

Any idea on if this would run on a dell latitude with a core 2 duo 2gb and nvidia quadro nvs135? Don't want to waste my money if it won't run worth a shit. Anyone else run it on a similar rig?
