Final Fantasy 13 - A Storm Gathers

If this is going to be a "TWEWU iOS" type of announcement I'll be very pissed off.

No, it's really pretty deep. Anyone who is a true fan of art and philosophy will understand. By having all these separate pieces out there, when they are put together and the true meaning is understood, it will shine like a precious jewel. It will become... something beautiful.

"O sweet Lightning, how long have you wandered in the dark. Release your tired soul, and find rest upon my bosom..."

I nearly spit out my drink.

That and by attempting to fix the reputation of XIII, they are seemingly only making people more disinterested in the Final Fantasy brand itself.
Yeah, it's a bad situation really. No one wants direct sequels, they just want a completely new full Final Fantasy every couple of years, but to do that on the consoles means a huge investment of building assets, and they feel the need to reuse them, which pisses the fans off, and makes that wait for the next real game even longer.

Versus XIII-2 probably won't be quite so bad, because at least it'll have to be on next-gen hardware, that's something new, but SE need to be able to make the real games cheaper, because watching them use every part of the buffalo is really depressing.

If you look at the individual squares, it kind of looks like a continent, or world map of some kind that is scrambled up into different pieces.

Nice, that could definitely be it. So Lightning's Room is possibly her
crystal prison, which she stays in for hundreds of years?
Not sure where they'll go with that. Interesting.

She stays in her room, transforms into a man and becomes the main character of FF Vs XIII, which is what SE will be announcing.

August 30th, Konami will shake the industry. September 1st, SQEX Lightning Saga new direction event.

Silent Hill 4: Lightning's Room confirmed?

NO GILGAMESH NO INTEREST.

Ahem. Good points on the Tiles being the same as a floor, a similarity to the XII License Board.

Part of me viewed it as a 3rd Dissidia game calling back to the chess dungeons it liked to have.

Dunno where Type 0 is.

But yes the FNC mythos may be shared(terms and gods), but the interpretations are different. And can also bring new material for each title into the table.

Let's compare L'cie for example. Type 0 L'cie are like Demigods on a DBZ level. L'cie from XIII are slightly above human or just have magic and a weak deity to fight for em(only after said deity nearly kills them for their incompetence).

And unlike XIII L'cie there is no such thing as Cieth and a time limit. Type 0 have immortality and suffer from mental effects over long periods.

In other words
GILGAMESH could kick everyone's ass from XIII if he fought seriously.

I honestly think Toriyama will want to finish off his trilogy with Bhuniverzle (or however you spell his name) returning and going into the Unseen Realm to find Etro. I mean that is the threat that the mythology talks a lot about and everything in the mythology is modeled around it so I think Toriyama is vain enough to make his trilogy the 'full interpretation of FNC mythos'.

I kinda equate the Unseen realm to the Interdimensional Rift honestly. Makes the most sense to me.

Close, but not quite. In XIII the Eidolons are sent from Etro to intervene when a l'cie hits rock bottom, and loses all hope. If you notice in XIII, they all appear when the characters break down and have major arguments or bouts of depression.

Sermons of the seeress Paddra Nsu-Yeul said:
The Goddess pitied also those subjected to that fate of Focus, crueler still than death. To them She sent Her messengers, to deliver hope when all was lost.

So the idea is, the Eidolon will kill them right there if they don't have what it takes to finish their focus; because death would be a kindness compared to being turned to a c'ieth corpse. But if they prove they're strong enough to try and finish it, it helps them out on their quest. Pretty dark.

don't think they'll show much at this event, at best a logo and a 30sec CG teaser like XIII-2 with that creators video message they say on the site. what the game actually is probably next year.

The only FNC mythos I will accept is the one written by Nojima himself, perpetrators can step off.

Indeed. In total L'cie in XIII have 3 outcomes. None of them good.

But a thing to note is that summoning has no repercussions for XIII L'cie. But for Type 0 L'cie it can be fatal, depending on what you are trying to summon.
As some summns are so destructive you need a sacrifice to summon it, including the summoner

In Type 0 there are 4 outcomes.
Crystal(And remembered in history), death in battle, going against the crystal's will is to become a corpse and be forgotten. And then there is the event of forgetting one's focus. Which only GILGAMESH applies. In the Ultimania I believe it states that L'cie that serve the people instead of the Crystal will eventually become monsters, which may explain GILGAMESH'S multiarmed form.

That's really neat. I can't wait for Type-0.

Put it this way - if this was going to be a big blow-out, they'd have made press more aware. As it is now the PAX event hasn't had anything from PR other than a "show up if you want, just find us there" sort of thing and the Japanese event hasn't had anything. That was the case for XIII-2's reveal also. When they've revealed games in detail, even at Japanese events, they've tended to give prior warning that it's going to be big or even invited people out.

So yeah, it almost certainly is going to be a PR, logo, CG trailer, 2 or 3 screens FROM the CG trailer and a bit of discussion of what/why in the creator's message.

That summoning sequence in Type-0 was badass, saw it on youtube.

I like the concept of having to sacrifice in order to summon.

You would like the 2nd novel then.

It covers a cycle previous to that one and Kurasame becomes a L'cie and Summons Knights of the Round. What I would give to see that in action. But alas book form only. It only wiped out Milites and killed an L'cie who only lasted 19 minutes.

Yeah I'm excited but the game itself IS text heavy in material.

So VA work might be complete but who knows on the whole thing. I still think they want it to have an impact though at some event, and the Vita despite what some say isn't doing so good right now.

HOOOOLY SHIT

A short excerpt. Just for you.

"The Knights of the Round Ancient Eidolon summoned by l'Cie Kurasame raged for about 30 minutes, bringing about massive damage on the Byakko Army. The death count was recorded as 238, 521 fatalities. Byakko's Type-B l'Cie Qator miraculously escaped and returned to Ingram, but their Type-A l'Cie, Nimbus, lasted 19 minutes against the summon before being stabbed by a sword of a Knight. Taking advantage of the situation, Suzaku launched an all-out offensive attack on Byakko, cutting their way to the Byakko Capital of Ingram."

Fun fact. Knights of the Round appears out of the Sky(Knights with Swords and Magic) while Alexander in Type 0 came out of the Ground. Very Symbolic.

Yeah Type 0 is like the closest we will get to a BERSERK version of Final Fantasy.

Just give me my Dark Fantasy.

Or give me FF: Epic of GILGAMESH.(It's guaranteed to sell!)
