The back page of tomorrow's Mirror is the story that we're lining up a £15 million for Sturridge.

Don't fancy that, too much in my opinion. At the start of the summer I was more open to it, but I've cooled towards the idea. He's a good player, but I worry that he's too wasteful with the ball.

Surely we can't get rid of our back-up striker. Unless...

He's a very good player, and he does make an impact when he's on the pitch, but it's those few instances of selfishness, per game, that are really frustrating.

If we offload Nani, the frustrating thing would be we don't really have anyone in the squad who can naturally succeed him in his role (don't even say Young).

I would hope it ushers in a mentality that eschews our traditional focus on wide wingers.

Hopefully Powell would get more of a foot in the door too.

Didn't Sturridge score almost a goal a game at Bolton? I remember him being ridiculous during that loan spell, and I remember watching him for Chelsea under AVB and bemoaning that we didn't take him as part of the Torres deal. It's only recently that I've cooled to the idea of bringing him in, through bad word of mouth and watching him perform one of his trademark selfish blasts in the last week.

So how did everyone do in the Fantasy Football league this week? Not a bad one for me, 82 points :D
Pretty strong week for me, got about 80 points.

Bale was my captain though, if I'd made a better choice I might have got closer to 100 points. Not complaining though! Anything above 60 is good IMO. That's what I aim for.

Bad fantasy week for me; Rooney was a big mistake. Swapped him out for Torres now that he seems to not be shit anymore.

All this Nani/Rooney out rumour started mainly from the programme notes from Fergie in the Fulham game. Nani being left out fueled the speculation and the papers got on it. If he was back in the team next week most of these rumours could stop.

Speaking of shit weeks...

I have to get anally violated by the doctor this week to see what's up with my butt.

You've just made two of Fantasy Football's cardinal sins:

1) Gone for a player that's dominated the week before, without checking their upcoming fixture.

2) Put Fernando Torres into your team in the belief that 'he's back'.

I put Torres in. Up next is QPR and So'ton. My FFL team has been ruined by Aguero and Rooney getting injured in consecutive weeks.

edit: ah super cup, oh well

No way Rooney leaves. That would be madness.

I was in absolute awe when he handed in that transfer request a couple of seasons ago. Was just about to head into a lecture and my United fan mate was outside on the phone to his mate discussing it. Properly mental.

Turns out it was all just one big ploy to force United into signing players.

Doesn't Torres not have a game week this week?

And also if I had a pound for every time I've heard someone talk about putting Torres in their fantasy team because 'he's back' I'd genuinely have enough money for a half chicken and 2 sides from Nandos. And a bottomless drink.

Good move from Rooney (personally), got himself a raise. Shame he could still leave.

I remember when the whole original Rooney thing went down I was thinking the only player who I wanted to replace him was Aguero.

I'm glad we kept Rooney in the end...but yeah, I'd swap him for Aguero if I could.

That said Rooney just hasn't been the same since, if he ever got back to the way he was in that season after Ronaldo left...man, that would be amazing.

You know Torres doesn't play next gameweek?

Oops. Oh well, Rooney's been playing shit and is out for two months and buying Modric initially was a fucking idiotic decision so I just retooled my lineup a bit. Hopefully I get enough points from other positions to compensate for the Super Cup.

and :lol, I believe in Torres. Even if this probably is just another false dawn only to be halted by a suspension/injury, followed by a 24 hour goal drought.

Where are all these Rooney comments coming from? Any truly credible source making wind of this, or is this one of those typical Twitter transfer farts? Why would Rooney leave, and who would be in the position to take him?

He was guff at the Euros so I imagine a lot of European teams would be reluctant to pay the price United would demand, and I doubt United would sell to direct competition.

Seems a bit of an obvious story to invent, to be honest. Rooney's benched for a single game and suddenly he's on his way out, more than willing to bet it's poppycock.

I wouldn't bet against PSG having an interest in Rooney, just because they can. And they might want to spunk a load more in reaction to their poor start to the season.

And to be honest, Rooney might think he's got more of a chance of being a definite star-man over Ibra than he does RVP.

With the signing of RvP, it's pretty clear Rooney will have to be benched. Kagawa-Rooney-RvP, they can't play together, one of them has to be benched at least.

Unless Fergusson is planning to use Rooney as Nani replacement.

Hernandez was signed before that. It was him and Berbatov scoring the goals whilst Rooney was busy being a JT.

Rooney is never going to come back from that little episode. Even though the fans have "forgiven" him and are glad to have him...he was well on the way to club legend status. He has a lot of work to do to get back there.

Football fans jump on bandwagons pretty easily. If RVP scores 7/8 goals over the next 2 months while Rooney is out...he won't be forgotten...but yeah, the fans will care a little less about Rooney.

It's paper talk. But from what I have heard, which could be false, Rooneys position at the club is not as it once was. That doesn't mean he is being sold, the papers have jumped to that, but it just means he has to buckle down and work hard to regain everybody's trust once again.

He isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

Rumours around several LFC websites are Lucas will be out for 6 to 8 weeks.
Seen that, he must be devastated. At least it's not his knee though, makes it a lot less ominous. And he won't have to go through any strenuous rehab either. The silver lining to this is his knee gets time to recuperate further too; I was still a bit worried about him jumping back into the fold this early.

It makes the Sahin signing hugely important, and almost guarantees our preferred starting midfield for the next two months to be Allen, Sahin, and Gerrard. Still fucking beautiful.

Also, no matter how many shots he toe bungs in, or how many assists he creates for Hazard, when you spend that wad of cash to get Nando in your Fantasy Team you aren't getting this player.
