So, with TWEWY and Phoenix Wright on iOS, as well as the announcement of a new Professor Layton, I was thinking about the possibility of the series on iOS. Maybe the first trilogy like they are doing with PW. I thought about opening the discussion on the Layton 6 announcement thread, but people would burn and eat me alive.

I think it's bound to happen eventually. It's such a natural fit for the platform.

Do you know about the Layton Bros. side game coming out?

Oh man Bastion is a great surprise. I was just reading up on how they used monogame to port to mac (great fucking dev giving back to other devs) but didn't expect an iPad release. Hope it does well

Look at the video man. :P

Unless you meant in person or direct feed.

Ah, I was mesmerised by the pics, didn't even see the link. tbh I'm a bit less excited for having seen it. I'm not too hot on the tilt-to-steer mechanic but I can't put my finger on it exactly. When the person was playing it didn't feel... ooomph-y enough? Like the action wasn't quite dynamic enough, it was just minor movements to move around the track. After spending so many years playing racers super agressively and twitchy I don't know if I can adapt to a more restrained method.

We made a couple of poor technical design decisions which made the effort required to support iPad properly take more resource than was tenable at the time. Ultimately, a time/cost issue rather than "it couldn't be done". We have, however, as time and resource permits been going back to those titles to remove black borders and properly support iPad resolutions.
Ahh I see. Well at least you guys are supporting it now, better late than never!

OMG!

Bastion is out for iOS?!?!?!?

I didn't even knew they were porting it!!!

What?!?! I already beat the Steam version but I'm going to get this to support these guys because they are truly awesome devs

the only type of borders that exist due to this phenomenon are borders on the top and bottom of the screen. you really don't seem to understand aspect ratios.
I do understand aspect ratios, and I realize that the iPad and iPhone have different aspect ratios. Don't insult my intelligence, I never insulted yours. I thought you were talking about the borders that appear when you're using an iPhone only app on an iPad (borders all around). This is entirely different since it's still scaled for the iPad, just not completely full screen. More like a "stretched" version of the iPhone app that makes the aspect ratio closer to 16:9.

im probably not the first one to say this but I've been playing alot of strikefleet omega on my ipad recently. it is really @%! fun to play. It's like Homeworld minus the cool voiceover. and its free!

Man that Bastion thread makes my heart hurt. Fuck those people. I'm staying in here for my iOS hype, youse are good peoples.

Even the dicks :D

You might be the first person actually, I've not heard of this before. How does it play? The shot you've posted looks odd, the ships look a bit too big for the screen, and it's on a 2d plane, right? I like Homeworld back in the day although it was a little over my head at the time. Is there anything else this compares to on iOS?

I kinda feel the same but then the 'official' threads will wilt and die and iOS games will find themselves in a self-imposed ghetto.

I just need to learn to ignore people that aren't there for discussion beyond 'fuck this shit'.

But there's so many of them. It turns a good thread into a clusterfuck and drowns out any constructive discussion of the game itself.

I like our iOS ghetto, it's positive and welcoming and we even talk about games sometimes. We've moved beyond grappling with the platform and so now we can judge games on their actual merits other than "I'm touching glass so no".

Honestly, I wish mods would take as severe a stance as they do with other console wars nonsense. If I were to go trolling a Nintendo thread I'd find myself out on my arse quicksharp, these guys need to do the same. One month ban for any dismissive lol.

I totally agree with you. They won't give it a fair chance since its not on "an actual platform" as they say. But whatever, their loss. I had the same experience in the OUYA thread.

That brings this question to mind, if apple were to make a console (a small, low powered $100-$250 box for the TV) would you buy it? I most definitely would if it meant I could play iOS apps on it. But that seems like a technical challenge.

Edit: this is possible on an AppleTV though right? I might have to snag one...

Yeah, I do know about that! Though it's a while since we have any news on that. Hope it does well to reinforce the idea of Layton iOS.

Yeah, I really want it to turn out good and do well so Level-5 will be more willing to port games and even make whole new ones for the platform.

Can't speak for Nintendo, as I dare not enter those threads, but you obviously haven't seen a Vita thread lately. The trolls and haters are out in force in those, though for entirely different reasons than iOS.

On a game-related note, I just finished Bar Oasis. Going to give 1.5 a punt, but what's the verdict on 2? I really enjoyed the first one, but does its sequel live up to it?

Bastion is legit. The default controls feel more casual, but not in a bad way. In more of a "I'm playing a game on the train to just chill out" way. If people really want the console experience the classic controls give it to them.

It's up now (who was I kidding, I was always gonna stay up).

£2.99. Utterly insane. I hadn't done the $-£ conversion in my head so the price stunned me for the 2nd time today. Downloading now.

Just finished Puzzlecraft! Getting the props from all my villagers at the end gave me a big head.

So that's Puzzlecraft and 1000000 both finished, what's another good one-hand phone game I can play in really short bursts?

Not Dungeon Raid btw.

Bastion bought for £2.99, killer price for such a game.

Not sure if this was postes already, but here's a new video and screens from NFS Most Wanted. Not as good as the Vita version (understandably), but not too shabby. This version is not open world, but track based. Should be fun, I enjoyed Hot Pursuit.

wow the visuals are leaps and bounds over their last racer which was hot pursuit, dat firemint tech.

Yeah, other iOS threads really grind my gears. It's like 2008 again where 90% of people "just can't type on touch screens". The jury's in on this one folks.

that's actually from the iphone, which is way too small. The ipad is much better although they could have shrunken down the capital ships like 25%. The game plays great. it's the same formula

fighters -> fighters
interceptors -> cruisers
bombers -> bigger ships
artillery -> everything but shielded enemies

so you need to have the right layout for each map. also you upgrade your different types of ships. I'm only at level 15 on map 28 and its fucking hard. i have to replay older levels to get more XP

Hey guys. Surprisingly, the auto attack gameplay works. It's more laid back, like Justin said, but it's fun. I prefer virtual pad because I'm pretty used to them, but I can see why someone would find the point controls more enjoyable.

Couple of suggestions though:

1 - Allow me to fully customize the button placement. It's a must in games with virtual controls.
2 - In the point mode, keep the ranged attack automatic, but add tap to attack when using melee. Love to tap tap tap some suckers!

Anyway, uploading a video on Youtube now. Tried my best not to cover the screen with my fingers.

Just fyi, King Of Dragon's Pass is on sale for 7.99 from 9.99, and it doesn't go on sale very often. Probably one of the meatiest games/text-based RPG's you can and will ever get on iOS. People who've played it can probably give better impressions than me :P

If you want a game with a ton of depth and strategy, and are not afraid to do some reading, I highly recommend it!
