The beginning of next year starts out as Hank confronts Walt next to the pool.

Walt denies it, and becomes very offended.

The two stare at each other for about a minute when suddenly, Holly says her first words.

I LOL'd but that is sick! couldn't it be "Mama........... FUCKED TED!"

Fuck.

This is going to be the longest wait for a shit to finish in my entire life.

The pain will consume my body and soul and torture me in the throes of purgatory till next summer.

FUCK.

CHEKOV'S GUN FINALLY WENT OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That shit was smart on their end though. Like for real. It was something that Walt definitely had, and the connection made with it was just plain incredible. I wonder how Walt will get out of it though. They honestly haven't got shit on him evidence-wise outside of that book, but THAT BOOK is soooo damn incriminating. FUCK.

I think what would really get to Walter White is if Walt Jr. and his friend have been going out and shooting up meth. Ever notice the kid ALWAYS wears long sleeves? it is hot where they live. The kid has been shooting meth mixed with heroin, at that one house Walt had to go get Jesse at

How does he get out of it with his new partners? What about the Czech republic thing? I personally think Lydia has snitched, or is recording the conversations and transactions as her leverage, and when they get that its over. Cooking is one thing but mailing that stuff to another country is FBI/Interpol territory.
If its nothing like that why the hell did they even add that? it was a lot of wasted time for this episode, and a little late in the game

shoot meth? what?

yes IVing meth, he never wears short sleeves, hes always going to hang out with his buddy and driving really fast do the math

Meth dissolves almost instantly in water, and a lot of users prefer the rush. I never liked smoking meth when I used to do it, I would always inject it myself.. The rush is stronger than heroin and lasts about 10 hours while a heroin rush lasts a short while compared. A LOT of meth users IV it. like Jesses junkie girlfriend remember her say "add meth" when she brought home the heroin for them.

So many unanswered questions, and 8 episodes left. One thing I really love about this show is that I literally have no idea where it's headed next. Shit is magical. I'm really intrigued on all of that too. There's so much waiting to blow up on him, but for all we know, it could be dismissed quickly like nothing even happened (I mean, I don't think it will, but think of the possibilities!).

I believe was in there to show that even without a reliable team to distribute, he was able to make his own. He was clever enough to stay his own boss. Kinda like how Lidia/Lydia mentioned that Gus Fring built his empire from scratch and how they had all the plans ready to implement with Fring, Walt and Todd both were able to become "Mike and the 9 Guys", and overall fill that void and let everything still go according to plan.

I think it was to show that he truly became self-sufficient (as far as he can in being his own boss that is), and was finally able to wear the pants in the business, IMO. Which is all he's been trying to do since the Fring stuff; be free, be in charge.

If you notice he was going to Ricin her, but she became another means of distrobution so he kept her alive. I think she knew she was going to get killed if she didn't bring up that plan. But also he could of added the ricin anyway, and kept another dose for later in the vial. He did comment asking if she thought he would just kill her in the cafe? well he might have! there is no time frame for the episode to know if she was poisoned and will be getting sick soon

I think it's more that the actor never wears short sleeves. Besides, he's been dressing that way since the first episode. I'm guessing he has some sort of visible scarring and they decided to just always cover it up rather than to address it within the fiction.

Actually, there is this one shot.............is this him dressing as Jesse? lol

It honestly just seemed like a right time right place kinda thing. She just showed her hand and it happened to be something he wanted, and given his lack of communication with the new bros, he was probably looking for something. Also re: Ricin: That stuff takes a little while to go through the body; she'd be found dead hours later, not in the restaurant.

My pure speculation which could be wrong (but hey, discussion is fun! :D)The ricin is still the last chekhov's gun i'm waiting for to go off. I almost think it was deliberately placed in to show it still exists, much like Walt going in for an examination, and less intended to ever be used against her. Basically like, that montage I felt was a convenient way to show what's still in the game, and what left over elements from each season of the show was still fair game to be used in the universe of Breaking Bad. Each season has had something left over that had eventually become significant, and just kinda on my own speculation, I think Gilligan and co. wanted to keep the show incorporated within the laws they've created for it; make their world all-inclusive, and by trying to simultaneously tie up the lose ends they've left. (Obviously some of it feels like major reaching, but they are very real things that have significant meaning depending on context of a character in this show).

I would go as far as to say that the major evidence/loaded guns left behind is/are:

S1: Cancer
S2: Hector Salamanca
S3: Gale's Book
S4: Ricin
S5: I have no idea what it is yet. Jesse and what little Jesse knows about how Walt has almost played god with his life? Jesse is most definitely a loaded gun, and is something Walt has now left behind... For now.

Is there a reason they are making us wait a year? I never read an explanation for that one... Maybe they finished up filming the episodes of him bald, and are waiting for his hair to grow(his hair might grow crazy slow like mine.) But they already showed him with hair which I think they did while the show was off the air and he had his hair longer for another show/movie or just used a wig.

Also Lydia (Laura Fraser)
Laura Fraser IMDB.com

Currently looking for her nudes, because if they show Anne Hathaway nude i'm sure Lydia nude somewhere

I am in lone with her for her speaking german(turn on!), and what she does with her lips when she is panicking(i'm a creep i know)
Oh man, sorry, but this made me laugh out loud. Yes, that is the reason.

It's interesting that this episode was the most sympathetic Walt has been since last season.

If not for that dumb poetry book, they could have ended things right here, and everything would be fine.

What a great ending.

Waiting a year is a complete joke though. Whoever thought it would be a good idea should be out of a job. Fucking dumb.

Here's how I now see Season 5b going down:

- Walt uses his leverage against Hank to get him into witness protection
- Walt doesn't indict Skyler, mostly so the kids will still have their mother
- In New Hampshire, Walt gets word that Declan has kidnapped Jesse and forced him to cook in Walt's place
- Walt returns with M60, lays waste and rescues Jesse
- Todd gets bit by that spider
- Junior wants breakfast

Fuck me that was good. Great season, equal with season 4 for me!

So what does everyone think of the timescale between that episode and the cold opening of ep1? It seemed clear to me in the last episode that some considerable time passed from the start of the episode to the end. I'd bet we're only 6 months behind the cold opening now.

I could see this happening with him using Lydia and her Croatian connects as proof she is the one in charge instead of him and then giving testimony to send her to jail.

Is Ted still alive at the end of this scenario? Because that won't do.

That was an absolutely phenomenal episode, and an absolutely phenomenal way for Hank to find out. Having him walk in on Walt making a batch just forces the confrontation immediately, whereas having him come to heavily suspect Walt like this allows for an episode or two of tension before it comes to light. Also, the book was in no way forced, it was mentioned in early season 4 and serves as poetic justice (pun intended!) for Gale.

Other things in this episode that were great: Jesse coming to Walt during the disposal of Mike's body, the brutal prison murder montage, and the final interaction between Walt and Jesse.

Finally, I - like many others in this thread - was sure Todd's family were going to burst into Walt's garden to take him out and establish Todd as the 'kingpin'. I imagined many deaths. Instead, when Hank left to go somewhere else, I realised what was about to go down, and my heart managed to beat even more intensely than when they were by the pool.

An absolutely masterful ending to an accomplished season of television.

Now that i've seen the post-episode "Inside 508" content, yeah you're right. It was honestly just her luck to have the right cards at the right time. Her ass got lucky. Real lucky.

While this would be cool, I have yet to actually ever see any predictions (outside of the obvious Hank has to find out sometime) not get mercilessly slaughtered (especially mine!!!). It's the one show I have yet to ever see be successfully predicted by anyone in any kind of consistent manner.

Episode was perfect except for the totally unnecessary flashback at the end - you can't even argue it's for people who didn't see S4 because they wouldn't know who "GB" refers to anyway. Would've been better to see Hank open the book, read the note, and then have that expression.

A+ season, Breaking Bad beat out its year's respective Mad Men season for the first time.
I thought the flashback was really fitting to be honest. It added to the tension and the whole "holy shit" feel to it all. Maybe that's just me though.....

Except that like three months pass in that montage. You know, the one that features her constantly and in different clothes every time.

the time frame is 3 months. it was like 3 months of him working with her and them getting all that money. Or maybe I am misunderstanding your last sentence.

<edit> dammit, beaten by guy with avatar of man with silly hat

ha, he probably hated the dark knight rises flash backs. imo it fit perfectly in this episode because I had forgot ALL about that scene.

If anything, I think it kinda addressed Hank as a character. The man is slow, but eventually he puts two and two together. Also that face he made was priceless. Pure gold.

Has this thread discussed whether the episode should have ended with Walt's "you got me"? On the one hand, I think that would be absolutely perfect (I'm even tempted to edit out the final shot myself!), but on the other hand, for first-time viewers, I guess Hank's final reaction shot is important.

I keep thinking how funny it would be if you heard a a shit drop splash at the very last second before it cut to credits. I wish someone would make it happen and put it on youtube.

The reaction shot was way too awesome to be left out.

Sort of funny that they played Walt as sympathetic in the end, even though he just orchestrated the murder of ten people, including the lawyer who had never met Walt. Pretty convinced at this point Walt is only out because his cancer's back, and Todd can carry on his empire/legacy.

Also he was totally prepared to murder Lydia just to be a dick until she dangled international moneys in front of him.

I honestly can say that I have no idea where Jesse's character is going to go from here.

And for that matter, I don't know what will happen with Todd.

With Hank knowing, I'm pretty sure he'll remember the connection Walt had with Jesse, combined with his early suspicions that Jesse was a part of the Heisenberg operation, and potentially focus in on Jesse as a way to get at Walt. Jesse never bothered with money laundering, doesn't have the illegal gambling cover story, and paid cash for the house he lives in, so there's a lot about him that warrants investigation. Plus Walt juts handed him 5 million cash, so if they search his place he's fucked. So I'm guessing next season Jesse's role will be getting harassed by the DEA full time (until Todd decides he's too much of a threat and murders him.)

I assume Todd is getting the keys to the meth business; maybe Walt gets some kind of royalty payments or something.

Hank's face man. Just the look on his face and the fact that he doesn't have shit on Walt aside from the book. There was so much weight in that moment. SO MUCH.

Also, it was an incredible way to release the UNBEARABLE tension that had building up that last 5 minutes. I was almost in pain from the horribleness I was waiting to happen. Also, well, you know, that dark humor the show is so great at.

So, the horrible thing that was supposed to happen in Holly's presence. Was it either -

a) a red herring from Dean Norris
b) a scene that got bumped to next year

?

I love the show can present the audience with several people being brutally stabbed and set on fire, but they can't utter a bad word like "fuck". American TV is absolutely retarded.

Great ep. Nice cock tease at the end. Can't wait for Hank to destroy Walt and everything he stands for.

You think he'll destroy himself in the process?

Walt will spin it that Hank was his inside man and the reason he paid his medical bills etc. is because of that.

I'm not sure it will go down like that, but there will be few characters who make it out the otherside fine, I'm sure. This show has been all about how Walt's actions has fucked up the lives of others for seasons now. That's going to be even more true by the end of the show.

Walt will spin it that Hank was his inside man and the reason he paid his medical bills etc. is because of that.

Oh shit. And Walt might just have enough confidential information from the bug he planted that he could make it sound authentic. Like Hank's been throwing the police off Walt's scent the whole time.

The way Hank found out about Walt kinda reminded me of this exchange in The Wire from Avon

" See, the thing is you only got to fuck up once. Be a little slow, be a little late, just once. And how you ain’t gonna never be slow? Never be late? You can’t plan for no shit like this man, it’s life"

Great episode. Great season. Not-so-great to wait for the last half-season. As soon as the Whitman book was shown early in the episode, I saw it. Still, as others say, it's difficult to see where this goes, exactly.

Here's the problem though. What the fuck is Hank going to do? Ruin his family, his niece, nephew, sister-in-law and his own carrier just to get Heisenberg?
