Marvel wants to sell comics, not have everybody join MCDU. They just use it to steer people towards buying books.

A well organized Netflix-like business for comics would be great. Even if it was just older comics, say 10+ years old. But companies probably have the paranoia that too many people would just use that service and not buy anything else, and therefore will never allow it to happen.

A lot of people would. 10+ years ago, Marvel was great! They could get mid-70s to late-80s stuff only on that and I would drop current Marvel in a heartbeat.

well with the downward spiral of comic sales something drastic is going to happen at some point before it all comes crashing down. They're currently beholden to an archaic business model and won't change dramatically until they are forced to

Except for Marvel, since they're idiots, I wait a month and buy everything 1.00 cheaper with no ads. And they save me on trades as i'm not rebuying comics just so i can find them and read them in collected form. Marvel though has always been behind the curve when it comes to digital. It's annoying.

Ideally i'd like a subscription based model that allows me something like Netflix where i can read everything from the publisher digitally from day of, to back catalog but not own.

I would pay a lot more than I pay Netflix for this. If you can read everything ever, including the new books every wednesday, even if you don't own them, I'd say that 30 dollars a month is still cheap.

Ya access to new books is really the key to why it'd be so expensive. Even if it was limited to popular trades and graphic novels it would still be an awesome service. Giving every new issue would be like netflix offering every new movie to be streamed at release. Too much money lost for everybody involved from the creators themselves to the stores.

The book is phenomenally well written and structured. The art didn't gel with the attitude at first but it's getting better. If you want to get a sense of how spectacular the book can be when everything meshes, get the two Avenging Spider-Mans DeConnick wrote (with Dodson art) which basically introduced the new Captain Marvel, a month or two back.

Will buy as many issues as are out later today.

Depending on how long this book goes for i might actually have all of MS Marvels stuff not counting the 1970s shit.

Im actually quite excited, might change my Avatar to Ms Marvel once i double check all my Ms Marvel books.
I didnt realize how much i actually like Ms Marvel till i saw how many of her books and books which just feature her i have.

Hey guys, I picked up Batwoman #1 today and realllly enjoyed it. Can I expect the series to keep up this quality? I've been contemplating getting the rest of the issues.

I reckon you should go back and read Elegy first, the first Batwoman trade. That'll catch you up so you can enjoy the first arc then endure the second/ It looks like the third will be good though.

Yep, I'd love this. Would really drive down the amount of comics I buy, especially TPBs/graphic novels.

Which is why Marvel gimps their service and DC doesn't one. If you just buy a few comics a month (or one collection) they'll get as much money as a month subscription. This is why there are missing issues and no iPad/tablet apps.

I felt a little let down by the Neagan stuff, mainly it seemed a little too close to the Governor down to the execution death of Tyrese then and Glen now. And poor Carl is starting to stack up people who want to rape him, as that was what set Rick off with the cannibals before coming to the new settlement.

I'm still in for the long haul though, every month it's at the top of my list to read.

Those masterwork books look nice, do you have any experience with the DC Archive books? Looking' into GL and some others if recommended.

Yeah nothing really comes about the next arc, only kirkman could make that place a complete bore. Invincible is a good because if it has bad writing in issues at least you are getting a pretty book. And Morning Glories is completely cray zay right now.

I read it all a few years ago, if you don't want to start from the very beginning then start with Garth Ennis' take on him (maybe about 45?). After that it has ups and downs but is mostly solid. I thought the weakest run was Brian Azzarello's but ymmv.

Mine's Chew #1 first print. It's in pretty awesome shape so ~$250 as of now. I still remember picking it up and it being the last issue my store had. No doubt it'll drop as the series comes to an end a few years but it's fun knowing I got it at retail. Outside of that and a few other image #1s my collection isn't worth very much right now.

Just all the usual books I'm buying, but I kind of want to give Phantom Stranger a shot.

Which makes me feel kind of dirty, because Didio is apparently a monster who is running the company into the ground and destroying writers' lives. But on the other hand, OMAC was so much fun and I kind of like the take we've seen on the character in the New 52 so far.

Comics are only worth as much as someone will be willing to pay for it. So good luck finding the sucker that'll pay $250 for an issue of Chew (maybe if it gets a film you should cash in around it's release).

EDIT: I have the original Flex Mentallo issues. Not the best condition since I've read them a dozen times, but I got them for a song. And I like the idea of these particular books being timeworn, it suits the series well.

This week's Marvel Monday sale on Comixology is The Mighty Avengers. Now, #1-20 was written by Bendis and is kinda meh.

BUT.

Issues #21-36 was Dan Slott's run and is honestly some of my favorite Avengers stories from the last five years. Hank Pym led a rag-tag group of C-listers and actually saved the damn world. Not much in the way of eating Chinese food and witty banter. This is the Earth's Mightiest Heroes, straight up.

Seriously, get it.
