In the season 5 opener, he takes on the maiden name of Skyler and arranges his birthday bacon just the way she did.

why the fuck walt would cook meth instead of taking grey matter money ?
Pride. Plus the machine was already turning when she confronted him with that proposition. I'm sure he would've considered it more actively or even accepted had it been offered to him before all the madness started.

Oh fuck, that kind of makes sense, actually.

There was a food item for Tuco and a few others as well. But the most exciting one was a theory:

Holy shit, that sounds great :D I hope that's what it is!

I thought that it was a good finale. The fact that Gale apparently gave Walt the book off screen bugs me a little bit, but I guess it's not too big of an issue.

The prison murder montage was brutal and horrifying and...incredible. Wow. And the juxtaposition between that and the scene of Walt standing in front of the TV, which is discussing the prison murders, entertaining his baby daughter with not even a shred of remorse, was excellent.

When Jesse didnt gave a shit (or shed no tears), would you expect remorse from Walt?

Great episode. The second montage was beautiful and the use of color throughout was brilliant. Walter draped in purple, as the king. Skyler wearing blue in the final scene, because that Skyblue will never truly be out of Walter's life. Very well done.

Ha, okay, that comment probably came off as snootier than I meant it to. It's just that I'm continuously blown away by the attention to detail of this show; it's easy for me to miss things (both little easter eggs and more significant plot points alike) if I look away for even a moment. The show is like a finely-crafted dark chocolate bar and it's almost over, damn it! Taking it for granted would be a crime.

I'm with you. I think people are crazy to watch this show while posting about it at the same time. You can read the characters' inner thoughts just by watching their facial and body language, but not if you're too busy typing "lol OMG marie, minerals!!1" 5 times in a row. To each his own, though.

edit- and wow, I didn't think Lydia was hot until this damn page

I think a great part of him would enjoy it. Walt just backed out from meth because recognition was substituted by routine. If his empire kept growing, he wouldn't have stopped.

I doubt that, actions speak louder than words....and the extent he goes, to be careful and cover shit up to keep him from getting caught...shows the opposite of what you say.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuck. Why do we have to wait so long?!

I don't recall any such scene. Thus, unless I'm remembering incorrectly, it must have happened off screen.

Nope. I didn't expect any remorse from Walt. I just thought it was a good scene; showing, as many of the scenes do, just how remorseless Walt has become.

At the exact same time, it seemed throughout this episode that Walt strongly regretted killing Mike, or at least realised it was completely unnecessary and shouldn't have happened.

He realized it immediately after it happened, despite telling Todd it needed to be done.

He hands him the copy in the superlab in season 3.

Did he? Which episode? Time stamp?

I doubt Walt regretted killing Mike because it was unnecessary. If he did regret it, I would wager that it was because Mike could have still been of some use to him.

So cue back to the intro of the first episode of season 5. Hank will find out Walt's identity and Hank will run away, make a new ID, grow hair, and lose everything.

Really? What made you think that?

Right after shooting him, he realised he could have gotten the names from Lydia the whole time and he needn't have confronted Mike about them, he could have let him escape without incident. He even tries to apologise to Mike before he's told to shut up.

Him sitting staring into space at the start of the episode is a totally diffferent reaction to any other recent death on the show, too. He was on top of the world after killing Gus, whistling uncaring after the kid died, but he was sitting morosely after killing Mike, like he wished he'd handled it differently, whereas he's normally fully assured he did everything perfectly.

Same deal with him missing Jesse and seemingly losing his enthusiasm for cooking, he's lost a lot of the "uncaring kingpin" deal he's been proudly using all season. That might be from cancer returning, or the lack of gratification that ultimately was coming from the business, or whatever, but he has taken a few steps back over the course of the episode (of course he had the people in prison killed, but they're just names on a piece of paper to him, he didn't know any of them, so he is uncaring).
