King of Dragon Pass Universal update is coming out tomorrow.

Took it for a spin this morning. Absolutely gorgeous in the retina display, the iOS version was already better than the PC one but the new upgrade completely modernizes (at least with respect to visuals) this 1999 cult classic. Easily the definitive edition of the game.

why do a freemium game must be small in size ?

It are better if exist possibility of download at 3g connection.

Fuck, just went and saw the Middle Manager of Justice gameplay trailer, that first room the game starts in immediatly reminded me of Theme Hospital.... Which then reminded me... THAT GAME NEEDS TO BE ON iOS.

Edit - Fuck!!! It's on Android but not iOS? Goddamn... it's the first time I've felt this Android envy.

You guys are getting me excited about King of the Dragon Pass. I never played any other incarnation before. I'll look into it once I finish TWEWY.

Damnit, so another week or so for Middle Manager. :-\

At least Super Hexagon will be here.

Let's make new threads for all iOS games, I like seeing meltdowns

Speaking of which, someone should make one for Super Hexagon. You know, from the guy who made VVVVVV!

Agreed! Super Hexagon definitely deserves one, too. Even if people can't play the iOS game they can check out the Flash version. It's coming to PC/Mac as well so it'll give them a heads up on it.

You should be responsible for all of them!

I guess I'll make one for Super Hexagon. Is there any videos of this game? I can't find any

Ahh, didn't realize. I was gonna make the thread title "Super Hexagon |OT| a VVVVVVery cool game on iOS" but I'll add PC/MAC later or something in the title

I give you until update 50-60 before you go and buy the game. The iOS version has a lot of nice updates (crafters always maxed, since you max them out anyway) , much slicker interface, and super high resolution. Easily worth the $4.00 than the PC version just released over on GoG.

If there is ever a backport of the iOS assets to the PC though, I'd totally double dip.

I had fun today, in my first year I reorganized my clan leadership, conducted a cattle raid, learned a new mystery, dealt with a smoothtalker getting one of the noble's girls pregnant and fouling up an arranged marriage, defended against horsemen, and explored the area near my land.

You never know what you are going to get out of a game of King of Dragon Pass, or when the choices you make come back to get you. That's what makes it so great.

It's worth noting that this weeks app of the week at Starbucks is Scribblenaughts Remix. Just pick up the card by where you pick up your drink or order is and it has a redemption code for a free copy.
If anyone finds themselves at a Starbuck's this week, would you mind helpnig a fellow Gaffer? And if I find myself at one before then, or after, I will snag a few for others.

All the videos out there are from the Flash game which is just called Hexagon.

There's more on there as well.

Oh, here's links to play it for the thread:

Yay so Star Command is getting pretty close to release. Their kicks tarter update mentions that they are pretty confident with a mid-October release but may push it back one more month if it needs a little more polish. Either way the game will finally be out pretty soon!

How does one "accidentally release" a game, esp when the apple approval process takes more than a week oO.

When you don't set it to "hold for developer release".

Waiting for a review takes about a week, but the review itself can take just a couple of hours. They probably didn't expect it to happen so suddenly or without warning.

Rookie mistake #2 :)

The monetization model for freemium games requires a lot of people. Very simply,

(number of people playing the game) * (some % of them will pay money) * (average purchase amount) = $ made

Developers want each of those factors to be as high as possible, because they result in more money. There are people who dont use wifi or their computer to download games. Therefore, if a developer makes an app more than 50 MB, they are restricting the number of people who can play their game.

Maybe Mario can shed some light on the number of people who fall into the 50 MB or under category. My understanding is it is more common outside of the USA.

Depends on the game and the situation, but you pretty much cut your downloads in half by tipping over 50MB.

that avengers game is basically a total rip-off of infinity blade haha.

If you say something like this here people will laugh about it or say they are ok with it.

But I said the same thing in the TA forum and people started raging over me. Gotta love TouchArcade. :)

actually i totally forgot about IB2. i remember it releasing last year with all the bugs and cloudsave problems so i decided to skip on it. funny to hear there are still bugs.

also dont think its been on sale yet.

IB2 has been on sale before, for like $4 or something. I haven't even touched it again cause of the bugs, so whatever. I think I'll delete it cause it's taking up space

Also, even TA's news story says it's an Infinity Blade clone, lol

That's what I did, for some reason it annoys me when any game is over 1gb, plus I may be one of the few that doesn't really care for Infinity Blade... it's just so boring.

Is it just me or is Mikey Shorts way too repetitive for too long? I went through 4 different worlds and It just feels like the same thing over and over. Mos Speedrun never gave me that vibe.

yeah its pretty dumb. just go do the challenge missions as soon as you can. It really needed some enemies or something though, I don't know why TA gave it 5 starts

Keep practicing - the virtual pad is fantastic in Mikey Shorts and you should be able to easily get 3 stars with a little practice.

I imagine blutrol would work with a wiimote. But the vpad is good, deal with it and it will make you a better person.

You can buy Blutrol off of Cydia, which I believe is $7. It allows you to configure a number of types of controllers (including Wiimotes, BT keyboards, and iCade) to work with most any game that has virtual buttons. It's easy to setup, too. You just take a screenshot of a screen of the gamewhich displays the virtual controls (ie not paused), and then open Blutrol. Within the Blutrol app, you create a profile for your game and assign it that screenshot, and then it's just as simple as dragging the button icons of your controller on top of the buttons in the screenshot. Resizing the joystick is also sometimes necessary.

It doesn't work with all games (for example, I can't quite get it to work with GTA Chinatown Wars), and it works better with games that have static dpads. And while it is pretty expensive, if you must think of it as the cost of a controller, it's not so hard to swallow.
Thanks guys. I've been using the vpad and I'm getting better, but nothing will ever beat classic tactile controls. Thanks for the suggestion Jedeye Sniv and Azriell, I'm looking it up now. If I think of it as a controller, $7 becomes a dirt cheap price lol

I love this game. Currently I have some ugly motherfucker in my clan who has been married like 6 times and each time we shop him around to other clans he is eventually taken but, a short while later he is disowned because of his ugliness.

In one of my other games I had a group out exploring the far reaches of the map when they were abducted by some sorcerer who was made out of hands. Yes, hands. Well before the group could escape, my expedition leader had his hand cut off. A short while after coming home I had the option to send another group to go rescue my dudes hand. Killed the sorcerer and took the hand back!

Also learn life lessons when trying to launch a legal claim against a ghost :(

The game is sooo worth the price and it is now even better with it being optimized for the ipad.
