Know Anybody Famous?

Was really good friends with Tim Lincecum in HS. Haven't heard from him in a while since he's busy making millions. Have some cool stories about him though.

Also hung out with Marvin Williams (NBA). The Hawks came to play the Suns when I was living in Arizona and my good friend Josh is best friends with him, so he was at my house kicking it for a while.

Edit: Tim and I also went to HS with this girl Lindsey who was on the Bachelor for a while. I don't know if that counts as famous though.
 
I went to high school with a guy who now plays safety for the Panthers. My sister and the singer Kate Voegele have at least one mutual friend. So really nothing.

What does knowing a celebrity have to do with worshipping them? I KNOW someone from the Wu-Tang clan. Doesn't mean I walk around screaming it to the high heavens or "worship" him. I just know him.

I was not being literal with "celebrity worship" I apologize for not clarifying.
How is it a "gimmick" to answer his question by saying no, and that I do not really lust to know a celebrity because I do not place them above the common man?

Now you might claim they deserve their wealth and are superior to everyone and what not... Society pretty much validates that belief but it is my belief that they are not and it is just my opinion which is pretty irrelevant and does not matter anyone.

Are you undermining your own opinion? It just seems like you're installing this social hierarchy stuff into a lot of your posts lately, but whatever. I suppose I understand what you're saying. Of course society considers them superior because they're famous, but remember that they're not famous because they are superior if that makes you feel better. :)

Oh I know a bunch:

Nicholas Gill - Canada's most successful judoka.

Georges St. Pierre - We know each other via the same BJJ instructor. We're both close with Bruno Fernandes but not with each other personally. He's as nice as his constructed persona.

Rory MacDonald - See above. He's a really quiet guy though, seems kind of shy.

John Mackdessi - I've actually rolled with this guy a bunch of times, he's a nice dude.

Joe Clark - Canada's former Prime Minister, used to teach at McGill. I got stuck in an elevator with him once so we had a conversation and traded contact information.

I also know a bunch of online poker players but none on the level of Tom Dwan or Phil Ivey. Just guys who play the midstakes mainly.

Edit: I also forgot to add Patrick Cote (former UFC fighter, he does the colour commentary for the French broadcasts). I play poker with him sometimes.
 
I know Alan Paloma from Neon Indian. I also went to high school with the girl in that band.

When I lived in Austin it was pretty unavoidable to run into Quentin Tarantino at bars or at the alamo drafthouse. He's a rude and outspoken asshole.

If it also counts, I'm also friends with a comic book artist who has done a lot of work for IDW named Paul Hanley.
 
I don't know anyone. But my ex-boss is a huge car guy and also good friends with Paul Walker. The ex-boss used to hosts track days (which I attended), and sometimes Paul Walker, Vin Diesel & Jason Statham would show up at the events.

Oh, one of my friend's younger sister is a popular celeb in Korea (Han Ye-seul, google image and be happy). I don't talk to him anymore though.

It's funny, I've met the actor Brian Cox, but when I mention this to anybody, they always assume it's the scientist.
 
I grew up in Jamaica so I knew/met a lot of local acts. I lived near a couple of Sean Paul's cousins and got to meet long before he was famous (before he blew up in the US, no one was really checking for him JA so it wans't a huge deal). My father is one of the old old mid/early 90s Beanie Man videos. My sister used to get harassed by Elephant Man and a bunch other "big" reggae acts at sessions and parties in JA. I met Damian Marley and his mother once. When I was like ten I went skinnny dipping and jet sking with my sister, a close family friend and Naomi Campbell.

I don't know her myself but an aunt and my mother met Lauren Hill and dealt with her on several occasions. Both said she's a huge bitch.
 
Oh,I forgot to mention: Tristan Wilds (actor form The Wire and the new Beverly Hills 90210) grew up in my neighborhood. Supposedly he came over to my house once, as he knew my niece and nephew. I don't recall it, though, as they brought many people over to the house over the years.
 
I was completely in love with wrestling as a kid and on custody weekend when I went to see my father he used to tell me he could introduce me to the rock since he knew someone. Weeks went by, he kept saying he would do it and it never happened and I realized over time he was just lying to get me to like him for future court stuff where I'd pick which parent is better. Closest I ever got to meeting a celebrity (or so I thought).

I laugh about it now but it broke my heart as a kid =(
Maybe he really did know him and just couldn't get the meet...

He was nice. It was just a very small party in a basement. I was only about 13. My friend asked him if Nirvana were going to play at the party(they were rumored to). He said "no, our bass player is in LA." it was right before they went to record Nevermind and I guess Kris had already left. Kurt and Dave played with a band called Witchypoo that night. There's a picture of this show somewhere on the interweb, I'll try and find it.
 
I know a local politician here in Japan. He is a drinking buddy of mine, not overly famous but you see his face on the campaign posters.
 
Let me just preface by saying I do not have any relationships with famous peeps but:

Trey Anastasio said Whut up to me in Amsterdam.

Ryan Stiles asked me for some size 14 basketball shoes. (for his son)

I made sandwiches for two of the Harlem Globetrotters.

Smoked and drank with MC Chris aka MC PeePants and might have pissed him off asking questions about Dana Snyder, he was really nice still have his autograph.

Got Paul Chadwick to give me a freebie sketch even though he was selling ones. Of Concrete, he was very gracious.
Shook hands with Mike Allred, Mike Mignola, Kurt Busiek, and Matt Wagner. Matt also wrote me a letter in reply once which I have lost =(

Oh how could I forget I went to a Halloween party in the DC Sniper's old apartment, if that counts for anything.

Ha, I work with a guy who's also friends with his son. I won't say who, but that's funny.

I've also met him a bunch of times, incidentally, though for a totally different reason, work related.
 
I am cousins with Brett Favre, and yes we share the same last name.

I do so hate always being asked if we are related, too.

I kind of know Barry Humphries. He comes into my shop quite often and we talk a fair amount. Same deal with Jessica Rowe, who I saved from a violent homeless man.

Dunno if he counts as famous but Aamer Rahmen from Fear of a Brown Planet was the MC at my wedding and I hang out with him all the time. His partner in the show Nazeem Hussain called me from Yemen to wish me happy wedding and I would hang out with him too if he wasn't so flakey. Have had dinner with Susan Carland and Waleed Aly before.

Also know quite a few famous historians through my parents, but they only really count as famous amongst historians.
 
I grew up with Luke Donald (golfer) and The Duchess of York was my dads secretary for about 10 years prior to meeting Prince Andrew in the 80's. He still speaks to her regularly and back in the day we used to go to the palace and other ridiculously expensive houses for dinner with them and the 2 princesses.
