Uh, if you prefer Android, just switch. iOS6 is what you're gonna have for the next year, so why pretend that's not the case and wait for something else? It will save you a lot of whining. And if you call ios6 "just like ios5" then what the hell do you call jellybean over ICS? It's literally a smoother version with 1 new feature, google now. Windows 8 vs Windows 7.5 doesn't look like a massive leap either. Ios6 has more added features and changes than both those updates combined, by far. So your expectations are skewed and odd, to say the least. I never understand apple users who keep endlessly whining about how disappointed they are and threatening to switch platforms. Just do it. Why all the drama? Why stick to the platform if you think others are superior? You've known what ios6 was about for months now.
Woh dare.

One can love a product and still voice their opinions on what they dislike about dude. Labeling it as whining is totally irrelevant. Reason you may not understand it is because you may not care about the faults and have no need to get them fixed. The iPhone is amazing, yet they've been continuing to neglect things about it that could make it an almost perfect phone. Oh and uh, i never said I prefer Android. I actually wish I could afford both phones right now.

more actual features or just features that are relevant to your interests? I'm also not really sure it's fair to compare the jump for a yearly update to one that was 6 months..there was plenty more little things added to my galaxy nexus than just google now and project butter (just like iOS6!)

Then again, this usually just devolves into a pissing contest.
Are you going to give me 1.99 every Tuesday then? Because I'm down yo.
you're probably going to want to edit that post, but my favorite feature of an android phone is to actually be able to download music from blogs in a similar fashion to what you do rather than just be stuck streaming them/waiting until I reach a PC to be able to stick it on my phone. None of the current platforms really have the low-level file management abilities that symbian phones did except android, which is unfortunate in my opinion (not wrong, just not my preference)

Well done video.

Also I think all long time iOS users pining for android should just save yourselves time and switch already. The sooner you do it the sooner you can realize all that you take for granted and come back. Just get it over with.
I'm not disagreeing with you, but can you list some examples?

I'm already experiencing this with the Vita (yes I know it's not a phone) but it doesn't have simple features like cut+paste, and clicking youtube links in the browser doesn't automatically open it up in the youtube app.

This is a big issue with me. Am i really not allowed to download free legal music on my iPhone and have it added to my itunes? Really? WHY NOT.

I just want a new keyboard damnit. I've been an iPhone owner for many years now and I still have problems typing on it. I was hoping with a wider screen it might be easier to type with my big hands, but that's not looking like it could happen. Lol. Atleast redesign it and add a damn period button or tab on the default keyboard face...

Other than that I'm looking forwards to iOS6. Googie maps has always ticked me off.

I'm curious now...is there any good keyboards (similar to androids I guess) available through jailbreak?

Yes bezel width for the alts is speculative. Sharp has demonstrated extremely small bezels with IGZO display (<1.5mm), but I think both my alts are under that. At some point soon someone is going to offer near edge to edge displays with super thin bezels IMO.

1234 hah nice!

Edit: 4S is 329ppi, where did I get the idea it was 326? (not that those are discernibly different :p)
Is it 326? I honestly forget.

But yeah, I think if you hold your iPhone with the screen on and picture the screen reaching the halfway point of the current bezel, it's not that implausible.

I'm really concerned about how the landscape keyboard will look. Portrait gets the obvious benefit of more screen space not blocked by the keyboard.

Could be the same keyboard without stretching from side to side. That's how the keyboard works in landscape mode for the iPad; perhaps they could even include the feature of splitting the keyboard in two.

What is wrong with that post?

Go check the quote in the post he responded to. But remember:

Well it's either you have less of whatever screen you were on visible (since the width is the same) or you just have a really stretched out landscape keyboard which is uncomfortable. Hopefully they implemented the split function.

anyway, 16:9 in general is :'( I think part of the reason I find the galaxy nexus usable with the size is the fact that the softkeys being part of the screen and not stuck at the bottom edge makes them comfortable to use one handed and requires less thumb stretching on the screen area. I'm hoping this is also the case with the nokia 920.

You sound like someone having a messy breakup.

I was trying to describe something like this:

Keyboard would be the exact same size (horizontally and vertically) as they were in previous models, meaning the keyboard wouldn't be covering the entire length of the screen. You wouldn't be losing out on more screen space.

Anyhow, we'll know soon enough. :)

I definitely had the idea planted in the back of my head "Android probably caught up and surpassed iOS by now... Tech nerds are always telling me so.... iOS is fast becoming a dinosaur... Should I switch from Appleland for my phones and tablets???"

Then my weirdo brother stopped by my house and dropped off a Nexus 7 while he went travelling. Android's alright, but I certainly don't think it's better than iOS. I really don't love the experience. It's about the same, and a little more ugly. And I saw the reality of the "openness" that's always being flaunted, when it asked me which program I wanted to open a PDF with. Like, just open the fucking PDF! I think I prefer mobile platforms as being like consumer electronics devices/game consoles, rather than computers which ask me to set everything up.

I'm open to the idea that the Nexus 7 is not representative of Android phones... but if it is, I no longer think the grass is any greener on the other side.

But I know a lot of droid envy is about the awesome cutting edge phone hardware, which I do get.

Seriously? It asks you this once. Then never again.

Yeah I know. It's like a PC. Obviously that's good for some people. My girlfriend and I were trying to look at a restaurant menu when that came up, and we laughed out loud. Sheltered iOS users. Hate us if you want.

Openness.
Yeah the favorite part of openness for my android toting colleagues are side loading all their apps from a google search or bluetoothing them to each other. And they wonder why all the games I play on iOS aren't available on their platform without a single hint of irony.

Well, at least you admit it.
Man, you.... Ugh, I'll just say you don't even know what you're talking about . My post wasn't about that, my whole thing was about iOS6 not changing their core apps. Yeah, but i guess you didn't read it. There was something about downloading something but that wasn't even it. That was a joke. Next time, read.

I did read. You said iOS doesn't let you torrent shows 2 hours after they air and then download within 10 minutes. Your backpedaling and defensiveness is fun.

There will always be people who have near religious believes when it comes down to Apple. They will still camp out along the stores and act like a child in a candy store, but I also have this feeling that the iPhone 5 could slowly mean the release from their godlike status.

The biggest failure they did, if the rumors are true (and I will keep mentioning this), is not making the screen bigger in overall size but only make it taller.

The biggest reason why Samsung won over Apple in terms of sales of their smartphones is because their Galaxy S3 has the most beautiful looking screen ever created for a smartphone.

People like bigger because bigger equals better. This is the same in the TV branch. People never want to downgrade or stay at the same level when the competitive companies are adjusting to their needs.

What a load of unsubstantiated bollocks.

Since I know the same Android vs. Apple shit apocalypse blows up tenfold whenever there's an Apple event on every forum in the entire Internet, it's gonna be real nice avoiding any thread even remotely related to Apple for the next week. All I need to know is what went down at the event and nothing else.

What puzzles me most, though, is the following question:

Why is the press conference on a wednesday / not on a tuesday as in the years before?

Apple threads just about go through everything before the actual event even starts. Bless this mess.
what exactly is left to discuss 2 days before the event?

also, the problem (in my eyes) with your mockup is that it will still be harder to use since the phone is quite a bit longer. Your thumbs will still have to stretch a lot to hit those middle keys.
Yep, that's not out of context at all.
there's literally no point in trying to defend yourself, just peace out haha

Tuesday's September 11th, so they'd probably get accused for insensitivity or something if they held it on that day. [edit] fuckin beaten!

Nah, that wouldn't only go against the general UI but it'd probably be more awkward to use around those edges. Sort of pointless space save as well, tbh.

The keyboard will probably be elongated in landscape mode, but the same height. So in short, still the same shitty content window as before where you can barely see the text you're typing.

I have a feeling that the delay from announcent to shipped will be more than a week. If/when the screen aspect ratio is changed, developers will need time to do the same to their apps.

Unless apple wants to be dicks to the developers and let them take the flak for having unoptimised apps. Which they may well want to be.

For all we know they could have figured out some clever way to trigger an elongated mode for old apps. The simple kinds anyway, with a nav/menu bar and scrollable content window.

But either way, don't the iPhone's always launch a week or so after the keynote reveal anyway?
