Those who would switch from 3 to mini, are you not worried that the mini might not have specs as good as the 3?

I sold the 3 and will get the Mini. In terms of performance it will be like an iPad 2 (but probably the 32nm A5 so great performance and battery life) which basically performed the same as the iPad 3. Plus it will be much lighter and thinner.

Screen ppi is the only downer. Going from 260-something to 163 will suck but it's still in the neighborhood of the 1st gen Kindle Fire/Nook Tablet and I thought that was fine for reading.

Plus, the Mini will be much nicer for gaming especially in landscape mode.

I really hope the new iphone isn't much taller. I have a bunch of casual shirts with pockets that quite perfectly fit my 4. I'm not ridding myself of them for my phone, but I don't want to go droid.

DONT MAKE ME CHOOSE APPLE!!11

Androids are usually bigger than what iPhone would be.

In the past, how long has it taken for the carriers to drop the prices of older iPhone models? Wondering when I'll be able to stroll in and pick up an iPhone 4S at reduced pricing.

I would imagine, if it's anything like previous years, you'll be able to pre-order the same day iPhone 5 pre-orders go up or stroll into a store on the 5's launch day and pick up a 4S at the reduced pricing.

Launch day of the 5 the 4S will be 99$ with contract. This is the pattern up until now at least.

Nobody watching Laporte and the rest of his goons talk through the whole thing, then?

It might be funny to watch Leo for one reason: They have hired a puppeteer and are going to put up the Keynote shots from the presentation and have a puppet Tim Cook re-enact the unveiling. Could be mildly entertaining for a minute.

Indeed... let them have their fun! Anyway, this iPod touch 5g concept look pretty hot;

I wouldn't mind the new iPhone looking like that instead.
A glass front that spanned the entire front like the iMac does could be interesting, but might not be a great idea on a mobile device.

Dropping that could be bad news. Aesthetically though it would be awesome

Yeah, the front would probably needed to be structurally supported better for that to practically work. That's in essence the whole point of the steel trim we have now, anyway.

But it is hot.

That's why I'd love to see Apple start adopting bendable OLED screens for their devices...tho it doesn't seem the tech is quite where Apple wants it to be yet in terms of resolution.

How long will the conference be?

I might miss the first 30 minutes :(

You'll miss updates on Apple Stores and maybe some anecdotes on how the iPhone has changed the world forever or something like that. Might miss the beginning of the iPod reveals but I'd say your safe to see all of the iPhone reveal stuff.

LONG usually like 90 min to about 2 hours.
But video will not be up until 4/5 hours later.

Live blogs you can follow and off course GAF :P.

Put me at ease guys thanks :lol

Can't miss me some iPhone presentation. I'll have the verge open on my iPhone in case I need to use 3G.

Wait so what are we currently expecting tomorrow?

Last I heard it was something about iPhone 5 and a Retina MBP 13" with iPods and iPad Mini coming later in October. Now it sounds like iPods are back in?

New iPhone, new iPod nano, new iPod touch, iOS 6 features shown off, maybe some small surprises here and there (retina iMac or 13" MBP), and that's about it.

Well I'm officially a little more psyched. Didn't care about boring phones but iPods are nice. I still am really hoping for NFC but rumors say I should be disappointed.

I wouldn't count on any Mac announcements tomorrow at all. They probably won't even have an event for those.

So, anyone check their upgrade eligibility? My AT&T account is not eligible. Usually they do move up eligibility prior to a new iPhone release (sometimes before the conference has even happened). Hasn't happened yet, it seems. :

They didn't do that for me last year, even though my upgrade was only two months away. They wouldn't even budge on it even though we've been with them for years and they were allowing early upgrades for some iPhone 4 owners. :/

I decided to hold out for the five. Glad I did.

Thanks. I was hoping the 4S would drop to $99 after the announcement tomorrow, but I can wait. Hell, I've gone this long without a smartphone, I can wait another couple weeks.

Forgive me if this is a dumb question but for all the people thst want it to be wider not taller, what is the specific advantages of having a wider screen?

Anything with text input in portrait benefits from taller as the keyboard takes up less usable space. Any app with a scrolling list like Facebook or twitter or using mobile gaf etc has a height advantage to fit more in.

What's the use case for diagonally bigger? Or does it just look out of proportion now.

If you think anybody should treat you differently because of your loyalty towards them, you're in for a world of heart-ache.

I hope they have another video like the below, shown during the WWDC event. It was really well done, heartwarming, and powerful, hammering in what the hell the point of all this technology is at the end of the day, beyond just fucking around, all the spec-whorism which is merely a means to an end and not a goal unto itself. This is the 'world changing' stuff that actually IS changing people's lives, cliched or not. The blind guy choked me up quite a bit at the end with his last line.

Really hope we get something iMac related, though I'm not really bothered about retina for it. Just need to start planning for it (have never owned a Mac before), and I'd like to get to know it before Christmas (where the current plan is to buy my wife a 13" Air).

It will have its uses, but it just looks off. And if battery tech hadn't stalled I doubt we'd be seeing the change at all.

By going taller but not wider you've muted the appeal of the original iPhone and muted the appeal of a bigger screen as well. It's a forced compromise that is trying to straddle the appeal of both, and well not sure from what we've seen it works really. Hope now rests on Apple's porn department to make it look good for me.

It would be retaining the same aspect ratio instead of changing it, for one, which would give you more overall pixels, and from all sides. By simply elongating the screen you basically change nothing as far as UI goes. Someone who wasn't going to buy an iPhone because the larger screens on other devices are more appealing, will still probably still hold that view.

On the physical side, from what we know a slightly wider device would've actually made it thinner as well, since there'd be more space to cram hardware into.

Can you guys bring me up to date, is this a Sprint exclusive?
If so for how long?
What? No, not to my knowledge.

I am of the opinion that people will have to feel it and use it to appreciate its size. Perhaps it will end up being seen as a compromise where no one wins, but it could turn out to be a size that many enjoy and prefer after some time with it.

Guess we will find out soon enough.

You could have made the on screen keyboard bigger if the screen was wider, making it easier to type correctly.

Yeah, the proof will be in the pudding but i'm finding it hard to get excited about it coming from a 4 which is still doing (and looking) fine really. So hope there's a lot of bells and whistles, and software things we don't know about to make it worth it.

Oh, and they better have anodised that back as well haha

Im currently phoneless (just quit a job and had to give back the phone), but will be getting a new phone. Im thinking about waiting for the iPhone 5...what is a realistic expectation of when I will receive the phone if I preorder tomorrow.

I realize we'll know more tomorrow but I was just curious how iphone launches work...is it near impossible to get one at launch?

These questions are ridiculous, as:

1- Nobody knows if one can pre-order tomorrow
2- the launch date isn't even confirmed
3- noone knows the supply/demand situation yet

Typically the phone is within 1-2 weeks of the event, beyond that everything is a wild guess. Even when one pre-orders, there's no guarantee when you'll get the phone when its during launch period. I'd imagine the demand will be staggering. I'd suggest finding a temp phone in the meanwhile.
