It used to happen in the hot women topics of yore as well. There is an element of one-upsmanship to those threads that, while not every poster engages in it, enough do it that topics get completely derailed. The recent Shakira thread is an example of this in action. And when we do have a hot women topic where users are thoroughly warned about not doing this, this happens: the topic peters out because it is precisely the borderline bannable posts and one-upsmanship of pictures, gifs, and proclamations of how hot a woman is that posters find appealing, and when you forbid that a lot of posters do not seem to see the point.

I think the only topic I have seen of this kind in recent memory that lasted an extended period without degenerating - though it eventually did - was the recent Audrey Hepburn and her baby deer thread, and I suspect that is something that was due to A) the subject and B) the moderation presence in that topic that not every topic is going to have.

And yes, I did read those old threads. No, really. I lurked it sort of the way Straight-GAF used to lurk our hot men topics.

All in all they were pretty alienating when there would be like 4 on the main page at the same time. The most annoying part was the double standard surrounding them vs hot men threads. The hot men threads would get to like 2 pages before someone from straight male gaf would cry or one of the mods would just shut it down while the hot women ones kept going. To me it should have been both are allowed or none are, but it's still a thing. Worst we did in girlgaf was post some shirtless dudes (despite all the tits and girl ass that floats around everywhere else) and we received a warning to stop (which I know is now rescinded) but it just goes to show who the forum serves sometimes.

Fernando Rocker posted on GAF, but there was an account called Daniella Rocker (or something like that) who was his wife. Jokes aside, that actually was his wife's account, he was a bit nuts but he never really seemed pathetic enough to fake having a wife on GAF :lol

This was precisely the problem. As a concept, discussion of (and pictures of) attractive people is fine; the problem was that they rapidly degenerated in to giant spam threads of nearly naked women, and (as you noted) the threads would drown the front page of OT.

Anyway, here's the last post from HUELEN10 again for reference, because WHY NOT.

Here we go! For this I recommend downloading this 720p framegrab pak that I've put together. We're gonna observe some things about Sonic! First of all is the fact that just like in Sonic Unleashed, this model (or possibly pre-rendered sprite based on a model, more on that later) is smiling, presumably at all times, but kinda hard to make out with the supposed flat toon shader thing's got.

See?

Take a look for yourself. Frames 1, 9, 13, 33, 34, 45, 43, 51, and 53 seem to all be blatant "smile frames". Pretty cool, no?

I am currently now analyzing if any of these are identical in position. It's taking a while, but maybe with some more digging, we can find out once and for all if it is models, or pre-rendered sprites! Post if you find anything new!

EDIT: The main reason I am doing this is for the sprite/model thing. The smile finding was just something that happened while analyzing frames.
