Fighting Games Weekly | September 10-16

I'm not trying to discredit Champ. I think he has a top 5 Magneto, but is the best overall player for other reasons besides just his Magneto. Great use of missiles is one of those reasons. Though now that I think about it, "best missiles player" is a tough thing to measure. ChrisG would be up there.

the funny thing about champs play is that I think mag/doom/phoenix is better than mags/dorm/doom, its just that theres so many glitches and bugs in the game that Phoenix is pretty pointless to have.

Fchamp has the best Phoenix and Dorm in the universe. Aliens playing Marvel in some other galaxy ain't got shit on Fchamps Dorm and Phoenix though I heard they have beast Shuma and Jill because DLCs don't exist outside Earth.

His Doom is also top 5 easily, I can't count how many times he has comeback with Doom solo no x factor. He also has a very solid Sentinel and made top 8 2010 EVO with him.

doom comebacks are going to go away once people learn to fucking play against doom. I can't count how many times i've seen people approach from underneath him and die. Its fucking painful.

EDIT: I would say Yipes/FChamp/Chris G are top 3 in the game for sure though. I can't confidently pick an order. Justin... no.

It should be champ followed by chris g. As for yipes he only won one tournament. Justin at best is number three. I don't see how you put yipes above Justin when yipes never ever beats Justin.

Yipes doesn't do too hot against combo either, lover the guy but i think he only has one play style. When he's on he's untouchable but don't count on it.

But I would never bet against Justin Marvelous Wong.

Normally I wouldn't either, but right now I would pick either FChamp or ChrisG in a set over Justin. I think those are the two players he's gonna have the toughest time with until he changes something up in his team or how he plays.

The Yipes at Summer Jam is obviously not the same Yipes at EVO, because the SJ Yipes was able to make Fanatiq look like a scrub. Maybe J Wong has leveled up too, maybe he'll finally stop using Storm, we'll see if that's the way in Season's Beatings.

Same team, same setups, save movement, same everything. It's not like Final Round Chris G compared to NCR Chris G compared to UFGT8 Chris G where teams changed, and mentality changed.

He just had a hot day literally...

If anything Yipes looked cleaner in his FT50 or whatever it was versus Abegen than he did versus Chris G at Summer Jam. Against Chris G he cut a lot of his combos short because he was scared of dropping them.

Sanford and Yipes in the stream chat were just talking in the stream chat about how Yipes pretty much bodies everyone free in long sets at his house (Yipes House Blues) and Justin was the only one close to beating him.

I don't even remember seeing Yipes playing Justin a tournament. Justin is forever godlike though, I won't argue with someone putting in Top 4, but he hasn't been putting in work, and has been getting bopped recently.

And I don't agree with Yipes having a single playstyle at all. Yipes can chill when he needs to chill, apply pressure when he needs, to, and everything. Dude is one of the most dynamic players out. I actually think that's a good reason why he's up there with Champ and Chris G, the elite who can effectively adapt. And recently he's adapting quicker than ever.

Agreed. Yipes needs another tournament win under his belt before anyone can start saying his name in the same breath as Champ or ChrisG.

I don't want anyone to think that I'm not saying Yipes is good by saying he has one play style but when you say Yipes can chill to me all it means is Yipes is doing backward wave dashes..... If anything (to me) it just means he having more patience than he normally does. I wouldn't exactly called that "new style."

That's already a huge improvement and what that other top players already know they must do. I have lost count of how many times Yipes would go 2-0 or 2-1 up easily only to drop a critical combo and end up 2-3 after collapsing mentally due to that drop. Yipes always had been one of the best UMvC3 player, he just does badly in tourneys because there's a mental block in him. Once that mental block is gone he'll be unstoppable.

Bring it on...

Yeah I edited my post.

Looking at that top 4, it's shocking for me to say that out of those 4 in the current meta ... Wong is the weakest...

But I would never bet against Justin Marvelous Wong.

I assume he'll get better after the 25th anniverary tourney concludes unless TTT2 in MLG has a better expected return than UMvC3 in the IPL. Man, typing that feels weird.

Not to be randomly off topic but how do you guy feel about Bayonetta 2 being a Wii U exclusive. It seems to be so much salt going on about that. So many people mad.

I feel that I am going to wait a few years before getting into the next generation of consoles. Early consoles are filled with launch issues, few games, bugs/technical faults and almost always over priced. I also never really buy consoles just for one game and right now Bayo 2 is the only Wii U game that has me interested. I skipped on the Wii because it didn't have enough games on it that I liked.

Also just because it's published by Nintendo doesn't exclude the possibility of it coming on other consoles under a different version like Ninja Gaiden Sigma. And Kamiya isn't lead director which makes me feel like it's going to be a Viewtiful Joe 2 caliber game, good but not as great as the original.

I am firmly in the wait and see camp with next gen. No need to rush or get sucked into the hype.... I have followed enough console launches to know better.

Yeah I kinda want to go back and play the first game. Been meaning to for a while but never got around to buying it or more likely it's not psn yet I believe.

Why are you asking about Bayo 2 when you haven't played the original? Seems like you got sucked into the drama.

PS3 version of Bayo is awful by the way.

- Hyped as shit that it was revived after being cancelled. (Nintendo with the godlike 5 meters stocked for Queen's revival)
- Was already thinking to buy Wii U, as it sounded right up my alley gamingwise, this just made it a mandatory buy.
- I feel like I can understand people getting upset, but I also feel like it's silly because if it wasn't like this, the game wouldn't exist period.

We now return to our regularly scheduled NeoGAF Fighting Game Weekly thread.

I don't know where people got the notion that Bayo was "revived" by Nintendo as if the IP dropped dead within a couple years. The existence of a sequel was shrouded in mystery and uncertainty but not declared to be officially dead.

I don't buy that it's because of Nintendos saving grace that we are getting a sequel, seems like hype talking. It would be much better for Sega financially to release PS360 versions alongside a WiiU version but since they aren't this is a classic case of money hats. I know a money hat when I see one and that's......

You seemed to be misinformed I wanted to go back and play this before this drama even played out. That's the only reason I payed attention to this mess in the first place. I'll eventually play it for the PS3(you can tell me it's awful but it depends on what I think about it ultimately)

Oh that shit was d-e-a-d dead. Following stuff from some good GAF folk in the know and some friends of mine elsewhere, the project existed, was supposed to be shown off at last TGS but got canned because SEGA couldn't pay the rent and thus started dropping everyone and everything in the pursuit of "restructuring". Fast forward to now and it seems that Nintendo's love for some Platinum/Kamiya cause this to happen.

So a working build of the game was shown to Sega at some point and was even supposed to be displayed at a major gaming event but since it wasn't people are declaring the game dead?

Dead is Dino Crisis and even that can be revived in the future via remake. Calling something dead that early after it's last game is premature.

Hey guys MVC is dead Capcom will never make another Mvc game again because of rights and interests.... Oh wait!

I like how you ignored the fact that Sega nearly went bankrupt in your attempt to discredit Bayo being dead.
