On further thought, maybe Xenoblade sequel or Last Story follow up exclusive to a different platform could elicit a reaction.

Meh. The market is self-correcting and there's always PC.

Although on further thought, probably one "standard" with multiple vendors would serve better. Like with other hardware.

What other platform? Monolithsoth is 2nd party to Nintendo

Death threats :/

LOL dude, here:

Microsoft also has Xbox Live. You can predict that PSN will catch up to it next gen, but I have a feeling that they'll only catch up to where XBL is now, not where XBL will be. I think that's been the main attraction to the 360 over the PS3 for some time now.

Truth be told it was a big reason but PSN+ does some really cool stuff XBL doesn't do and XBL has been rather stagnant. What holds back the PS3 (for me) is the piss poor cross platform support (PS3 often getting shafted) and poor hardware...ok that ties with 360.

XBL push for kinect has really started to bury it with shovelware and the arcade has been a nightmare as of late. And where the fuck is my extended friends list?

I think if Sony plays their cards right next gen and makes their console a little more developer friendly they can make a strong case to get back on top.

I'm aware of that. I'm simply saying that they're the few titles I can imagine people actually caring about if they were "stolen."
Would acquiring Bayonetta 2 as a Wii U exclusive not be a first step in the right direction?
As already stated, not unless the expectation is for Nintendo to moneyhat everything.

This is for all intents and purposes first party rather than third party publishing coming of its own volition. That's what people are skeptical of/waiting for and in general they're referring to western developers Bethesda, Valve, Rockstar, Epic etc.

Or just rip off Steam. I dunno.

smh..you should start a petition for it.

Some of these reactions are pretty ridiculous. In particular, the Twitter death threats are some of the most childishly stupid things I've seen in a while.

Hopefully this is the start of a new trend for Nintendo.

Rescuing games from beyond the grave. They already said this was a goal of theirs so this shouldn't be that surprising...oh wait...lets let at that thread that talked about the upcoming gens exclusives and all laugh lol

Did I miss something or do people seem to be taking this the wrong way? It says Nintendo is PUBLISHING it, and while yeah we all love Bayonetta I thought it wasn't exactly a mega-hit... What this implies to me is that if Nintendo wasn't publishing it there might not BE a Bayonetta 2 rather than they moneyhatted an exclusive. Maybe Nintendo actually saved Bayonetta 2 in exchange for exclusivity?

Wow, this thread has really grown. I thought the Dragon Quest IX thread was hilarious, but this is moreso.

What's with all the Nintendo hate? This is hilarious. Didn't realize so many people hate video games.

This is the first generation since the NES where Nintendo is launching first, and it looks like they aren't fucking around. If Nintendo wants to make a habit of resurrecting dead IPs, I approve of that direction. Not that I care about Bayonetta, but... this means Ogre Battle is a 0.00001% possibility, right? Right??

I do wonder if Nintendo will commission a port of the original to the Wii U. Could sell it for like 20 bucks to fill in the post launch window cycle.

The WiiU has no games I want to play!

Why are games I want to play on the WiiU!!

It's like the Wii all over again. I stopped listening to the Player 1 Podcast when one of the hosts would constantly say that anytime a game came out on the Wii that he wanted to play. Gary Whitta was like that on Game Theory, too.

Has someone compiled a list of the freakouts in this thread? From what I can tell, there are about twenty times less freakouts than the people mocking them.

Wasn't there only one "death threat" too? Not to say the kid wasn't stupid, but to say that Kamiya is "getting death threats" seems incredibly exaggerated, like everything else.

In all seriousness this was a very smart move for Nintendo; it probably cost them very little since the game was well into development before being cancelled, and it's a strong niche title that has enormous hardcore cred. If they market it properly (which Nintendo is very good at) and release it near launch, they have the opportunity to tie the franchise to their brand and grow it from here. It's good for everyone, even Sega since they must be getting some kind of cut for the license.

Nah.

There's also this.

Dude, dude.

Believe.

First Bayonetta, then Shenmue 3, then Ogre Battle, then The Last Guardian once Sony goes bankrupt.
kidding! KIDDING!

I didn't plan on getting the Wii U at launch, but I think now I have to buy the game even if I don't have the console, just to rub it on my titties! XD (while listening to "Bing Blang Blaow")

Follow the games, not the corporations.

Anyway, if The Last Story 2 was made and was made as a Vita exclusive, I'd be buying a Vita.
I wouldn't. I doubt many would.

I'll follow the games these days to the extent that I'll get something that has the most I want on it.

A universal standard isn't necessarily a bad thing.

See: pretty much every other consumer product.

that would be pretty awesome, I'd double dip easily, especially since I'm stuck with the PS3 version currently

as said by others, id love for this to turn into a deal where nintendo bankrolls platinum, now that sega can't. they need someone to ensure their games still get out the door, and although it's not normally their strength, i hope nintendo's efforts to get more core on board means they'll actually advertise as well. guess we'll see.

The game was never a system seller. Bayonetta has sold 1.35 million, which is not strong enough considering the userbase.

Also, considering the fact that the game has no multiplayer mode (very difficult to successfully implement with these kind of games), the lasting appeal/replay value was pretty short, and people moved on quickly.

From a purely business stand point, what Nintendo is doing here is extremely risky.

EDIT:
A quick sales comparison:

Bayo: 1.35 M
Devil May Cry 4: 2.60 M
Ninja Gaiden 2: sold > 1.00 M

I don't think anybody expects third party exclusives for the Wii U on the regular. The big key has always been the question of multiplatform releases and whether Nintendo gets left out again. However, Nintendo was always criticized for not cultivating a "core" userbase on the Wii outside of the Nintendo fans. Hopefully, the Bayonetta 2 and MH3U announcements are the first steps in a grander strategy to get a more diverse userbase to prop up their system.

Nintendo is always going to have an easier time garnering Japanese third party support rather than big name Western devs for various reasons. Expecting those devs you named to give Nintendo anything beyond ports is probably a pipe dream.

I'm pretty sure Nintendo knows they'll lose money off this. If they can keep the exclusives rolling then it should resonate well with the fanbase.

after taking a week off because the salt intake is still insane in this topic

I think maybe they feel it's enough of a good game to actually pull some of the other platform gamers across?
I really don't think Bayonetta has the degree of fanbase to do that to any large extent.

I would imagine the purchase of Bayonetta was incidental to already owning a system, not the driver to buy it.

Nintendo likely realise this. It's more about perception though.

Death threats :/

Yeah I really hate this whole "Nintendo is not cool" bullshit. I blame NoA for it mostly and the horrible way they present the company at times. Nintendo always has something really damn "cool" to me. Biohazard remake on GCN along with Project Number 3, Viewitful Joe and Killer 7(all originally exclusive), back on N64 with Sin and Punishment and brought back on Wii with S&P2 along with No More Heroes which was originally exclusive.

So hell yeah Bayonetta 2 and more Platinum Games support, I just see it as a continuation of Nintendo getting awesome games on their system.

The best third-party game ever, eh? Game sold a million copies. Sales don't = quality but you'd think more than a million people played the best third-party game ever. This is a nice get for Nintendo but it isn't a system seller outside of maybe a couple hundred thousand super hardcore Bayonetta fans.

Shit, hyperbole is lost on you isn't it?

What's wrong with gamers crying about purchasing a new system for a sequel? I didn't whine because I had to purchase MGS4 on a new system instead of PS2 :/
