Man. How do you lose so early in Jenga?

Mitt saw where that got his dad.

Probably so. I watched a documentary about him and it probably affected his dad pretty well, especially considering that honesty and tenacity got his dad into hot water and killed his campaign.

Interesting that the exact opposite will kill Romney's campaign.

It must be nice to never have to worry about money. It gives you a great perspective on the peasants who work your land.

Haha, what a douche mittens is. Middle class pays higher percentage of taxes than he does because he's a tax evading coward. He abuses laws that are created for ultra rich like him to evade taxes. If the vast majority of people did it, they'd go to jail.

But yeah, just put that in a commercial and he's done done. 6+% victory for Obama done.

So what percentage of his income does Romney pay?

Less than 13% I believe. He said he's never paid less than that, so we should assume he has because he's a habitual liar.

I think I pay something like 18-20% and I'm upper middle class.

You also shouldn't be able to win an election in any country with the downright insane conviction that markets will rally just at the very idea of you as president. Newsflash, fucker, the world outside your borders already hates you. The Conservative leader of your closest ally thinks you're a joke. 94% of French people want Obama re-elected, and Germany isn't far behind. You'd be cancer to America's and the world's recovery.

I didn't actually hate this guy until he kneejerked the embassy deaths for political gain, but I am going to revel in his now inevitable defeat. Fuck off, Mitt Romney. By this time next year you won't even be invited on talk shows. As it should be. You are a living avatar for the worst American tendencies, and I hope your defeat heralds the collapse of Nixonland.

I'm actually curious about seeing links for this.

Instead of fixing the system where according to him 47% of americans are in poverty he chooses to say fuck them instead. Romney 2012 POTUS!

Let's be real: the Cain-train would have been better run than this. For all the shit we all gave him that was a man that could stick to a message even if it had nothing to do with the question.

More people probably remember 9-9-9 than whatever Romney's new plan is (5 points or something?)

Let's nip this in the bud. That's an out of context quote a la "you didn't build that." In context, he's saying $250k and under is middle income. He doesn't specify a floor.

that's kind of what I thought he meant there, it's also one drop in an ocean :P

Plan? He has a plan? All he has are talking points.

"I'll cut taxes and pay for it through cutting costs and closing loopholes."
"Which costs and what loopholes?"
"Uh...."

Good, they played it on NBC Nightly News just now. Hopefully more outlets will show this off.

The Romney campaign has issued an official response to the video, and unsurprisingly, it has only a tenuous relationship with what Mitt actually said. Oh, to be a fly on the wall...

Gail Gitchco said:
Mitt Romney wants to help all Americans struggling in the Obama economy. As the governor has made clear all year, he is concerned about the growing number of people who are dependent on the federal government, including the record number of people who are on food stamps, nearly one in six Americans in poverty, and the 23 million Americans who are struggling to find work. Mitt Romney’s plan creates 12 million new jobs in four years, grows the economy and moves Americans off of government dependency and into jobs.

I'm actually curious about seeing links for this.
Quick Google search showed this:
From Most Europeans Want Obama Re-Elected - FT.com
The GMF Transatlantic Trends survey shows that 82 per cent of Europeans have a favourable view of Mr Obama, with only 11 per cent saying they disapproved of him. Enthusiasm for the president runs particularly high in France (93 per cent) Germany (91 per cent) and Sweden (90 per cent). It is lowest in Poland (54 per cent).
Doesn't say 94%, but close enough I suppose.

EDIT: I attempted (and failed) to put the link in the quote ID.

That's my point you think Cain would have been distracted by all this shit? All his answers would be 999. Romney's campaign is a joke and he is a POS. Also Ryan is apparently fighting against giving specifics, wotta bunch of d-bags.

I'm pretty sure Romney's actual opinion is buried so far deep that we'll never know it; given his record, he's almost assuredly just saying whatever needs to be said to make him President. He's some kind of weird, out of touch Presidentbot that hasn't been programmed well enough to actually say the right things at the right time.

It's interesting how American politicians get their knickers in a twist every time tax increases is proposed when they pay little in the way of income tax. For example, in the UK income tax is 0% for the first £8k, 20% for the next £26k, 40% for the following £116k and 50% (45% as of next April, because Conservatives) thereafter.

This is quite possibly the most damning, horrific video of Mitt Romney I have ever seen. To be presumptuous enough to label an entire swath of voters in one way like this is the most absurd thing I've ever seen come out of a political candidate.

Is he really saying all people who support Obama don't pay taxes? Believe the government should do everything for them? Believe they are victims?

If this doesn't lose him the election in a landslide, nothing will.

Edit: Really what is damning about this video is that he says 47 percent of voters in the country think these ways. I mean as a reasonable middle class, upper class, or lower class independent -- how do you look at a video like this and vote for him?

In the United States, the majority of rich people pay capital gains from investments and stock compensation, which is 15% right now. Romney does some whacky stuff to evade taxes that rich people and corporations lobbied for in Congress. Basically you buy votes in Congress at this point. Both parties do it, but the GOP is so shameless about it.

Historically US's taxes are extremely low, our debt is increasing, and corporations keep lobbying for more military contracts and medical programs. Something is going to give in the next 10 years, and I'm betting it's low taxes.

I love how he stretches his arms out in a vain attempt to try and stop the fall when it's far beyond saving at that point (then again, he probably doesn't believe in the science that dictates how static structures react under gravity and loads so he wouldn't recognize his actions as being futile).

To be fair, he paid $3 million or so in taxes last year, which is probably more money than I'll make...ever, let alone pay in taxes.

Still sore Kerry forgot them?

Wow, this piece on Bloomberg . . .

Today, Mitt Romney Lost the Election

You can mark my prediction now: A secret recording from a closed-door Mitt Romney fundraiser, released today by David Corn at Mother Jones, has killed Mitt Romney's campaign for president.

On the tape, Romney explains that his electoral strategy involves writing off nearly half the country as unmoveable Obama voters. As Romney explains, 47 percent of Americans "believe that they are victims." He laments: "I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."

So what's the upshot? "My job is not to worry about those people," he says. He also notes, describing President Obama's base, "These are people who pay no income tax. Forty-seven percent of Americans pay no income tax."

This is an utter disaster for Romney.

Romney already has trouble relating to the public and convincing people he cares about them. Now, he's been caught on video saying that nearly half the country consists of hopeless losers.

Romney has been vigorously denying President Obama's claims that his tax plan would raise taxes on the middle class. Now, he's been caught on video suggesting that low- and middle-income Americans are undertaxed.

(That one is especially problematic given the speculation about what's on Mitt's unreleased pre-2010 tax returns.)

Damn . . .

To be fair, he paid $3 million or so in taxes last year, which is probably more money than I'll make...ever, let alone pay in taxes.

So I guess you don't care about someone who makes the same as you and has the same tax liabilities but he pays much less than you?

To be fair, he paid $3 million or so in taxes last year, which is probably more money than I'll make...ever, let alone pay in taxes.

If we paid the same amount, we'd be a 3rd world nation. Our society is built on modern jobs that require a thorough and modern education with modern infrastructure that isn't going to work with tolls for dirt poor people.

Just look at the 1950s-1970s for an era of high taxes on the wealthy, paying down debt, making leaps in Scientific programs, and rapid growth of infrastructure and industry.

Romney would do better off with a policy more similar to that era. He might pay more % wise, but he'd likely make more overall if poor people become engineers and not McDonald's employees.

Should millionaires that keep a fair share? Sure. I'm talking 50% instead of 85%. I'm not advocating communism. Just a rational mixed economy in my opinion anyway.
