Romney would do better off with a policy more similar to that era. He might pay more % wise, but he'd likely make more overall if poor people become engineers and not McDonald's employees.
Double up on trickle up!

He dismissed these Americans as freeloaders who pay no taxes, who don't assume responsibility for their lives, and who think government should take care of them.
How is this fair? Percentages.

Somebody said it earlier but this is one of the few times he sounds like he has any conviction in what he's saying. And it's complete disdain for the poor.

I try to stay out of political discussion. I really do. I have my opinions and you have yours, and 99.9% of the time I've grown to respect that.
However, if you plan to vote for Mitt Romney, please consider what he thinks of people that voted for Obama:
"There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what," Romney is heard saying in the video. "All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you name it. That, that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what."
---
There is no possible connotation that justifies vilifying people like this. How can you be a president of all of the United States with such contempt for half the damn country?
Does he not realize how many people rely on Social Security and Medicare and Unemployment? Those people ARE dependent on the goverment. Those people ARE victims. Those people paid taxes when they were better off and they ARE entitled to the assistance they so desperately need.
Plus, his little diatribe has racist undertones all through it.
If you've read all this, and still plan on voting for this guy, please remove me from your Friends list. I simply cannot understand why anyone would willingly support such a fucking crooked piece of shit like this.
Probably not. George Romney, maybe, or one of those older businessmen for whom Fordism was a functioning principle and the business was that of actually providing products and services to people. But not Mitt. For all the talking about how we need a "businessman" in office, one must remember that Mitt was a management consultant and a leveraged buyout artist -- in other words, at no point was he within six degrees of any actual productive labor, just financial trickery, which doesn't require anything to actually be accomplished for you to profit.
Will anyone in the general public actually see these videos?

twitter/blogosphere is on fire with thsi
Will anyone in the general public actually see these videos?
Strategic release? Why release it now when his campaign is all but doomed?
Only if they watch NBC, ABC, MSNBC, CNN, read the newspaper, or have a Twitter account. Or read blogs. Probably a good chance if they use Facebook, too.

As I mentioned on the previous page, they just played most of it on NBC Nightly News. I don't doubt that the other networks except perhaps Fox will play it.
The most damning part about this is flat out saying he couldn't care less about almost half the country.
There is absolutely no running from what he said. I cannot believe he was dumb enough to say something like this out loud, even if it was at a private fundraiser.
So... Romney's gonna vote for Obama? He dismissed these Americans as freeloaders who pay no taxes...
Well fuck me, this may be the first time I've seen him speak seemingly sincere and passionate.
This reminds me. Is there a new Daily Show/Colbert tonight?
Edit: It is!
I sense Romney's future:Before this election, I was indifferent about Romney. Now, I think he's the worst kind of a dick, the dick that didn't know he's being a dick.
Holy shit.
To be fair, he says he doesn't care about trying to convince them to vote for him.
I'm sayin. He showed real conviction there, I'll give him that.
How can Romney be a supporter of "American exceptionalism" if he thinks half the population are total losers?
Bootstraps only works when people have legs.I'd like to hear Romney say that to someone who's disabled and incapable of having any job or income of their own.
Just watched the video myself now that I got home. Good god, I don't like Mitt Romney in general but when he said "who believe they are entitled to healthcare" with that inflection I felt a genuine spasm of rage. That's incredibly rare for me. That's a significant reaction.
But he followed it by saying "I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."
And even if he was just talking about not getting their votes, it's still bad.
Wow, the world would be a better place if Republicans left it. They are sickening.
Sooo....are you saying you wish we were all dead?
re: Romney's comment. I see some people running with the "My job is not to worry about those people...." and spinning it into "fuck these people" but.....he's talking about trying to win their votes. The rest of the speech I can't really defend.
