Yeah, definitely so. Just finished the first trade/collection. Nice mix of genres, art is decent, supernatural stuff has more of a adventure feel than horror feel. Evil civil war generals, undead, shoot outs, supernatural gunslingers.... I was entertained for my $5.
It is!
It's pretty good, I really like it!
I have always tried to sell more people into it but I suck!
Give it a try man, if you don't like the story at least the art is great!
I will add this to the list.
Better late than never.
Comics GAF, who here is going to watch the new Green Arrow show on CW? I was really into Smallville for like the first 4 seasons, but I got sick of the "villain-of-the-week" pace.
It has Deathstroke so I will want to see a little bit of it.
Are you sure they weren't just laughing at the absurdity of being in a Transformers comic?
I really liked what I read of IDW Transformers
I tried to like these, but I dropped them after three or four issues. The writing suffers from the same problem a lot of contemporary writers have - a nescient desire to write snarky characters, but every character ends up sounding the same and doesn't serve the story.
The Giffen / DeMatteis Justice League is the model for this, only Giffen / DeMatteis don't let the snark get in the way of telling the story, write interesting character interactions, and manage to write characters with more than one voice given the context of the situation they're in.
In other words - Fritchman tier writing, see also the recently cancelled Defenders book for examples of every character being so snarky / witty and it failing the story.
Speaking of dicks. . .
Black Kiss 2 - wow!
Just, wow!
Jedeye would love this book if he could buy it over there in Yurop. Boobs, dongs, and beef drapes all over. Jedeye Snev approved!
Plus it has a hermaphroditic succubus - TToB Approved! :3
If this is Howard Chaykin having some sort of episode, I don't know, but I'm enjoying it so far. I'm not sure what the end game is, but there's an overt supernatural tone to it and Chaykin is putting more effort into a book about playing demonic tag with bodily fluids than a lot of artists put into their work for headline books at the Big Two.
Meanwhile, if you're seeking more representation in comics as an African American - read Hypernaturals! Although the character of Half Shell has a pretty crap design. Sorry, the whole robo-armor-kini thing is just silly in the context of the book. This is a case where I would really prefer to see a body suit on the character, just so it wouldn't look so damn silly.
Ignoring costume silliness, Half Shell is also dangerously close to a bad stereotype of the finger wagging, neck craning ghetto sista with attitude. I see what the writers are trying to get at, much like Grant Morrisson and his Tattooed Man one shot for Final Crisis. The bad news is, you're just writing a cliched one note character.
With luck they'll give her character some depth and a body suit. :X
Fortunately IQ (IIRC, sorry blanking) goes nicely against common stereotypes, so he balances out the stupidity of Half Shell.
That said - space adventure! Crazy sci-fi hijinks. Issues are pretty dense story wise and the logic of the world is a lot of fun.
