Fighting Games Weekly | September 17-23

What do you believe retiring from the FGC means? Not entering tournaments anymore?

Ever since I got my TE stick and started playing SF4 I've had many levels of retirement, due to real life stuff/lack thereof.

Full commitment(sf4): played online/locally A LOT, participated in online/local tourneys A LOT, stream monstered A LOT.

Half commitment(ssf4): played online/locally mostly on weekends and in short bursts, participated in local tourneys whenever schedule allowed it, stream monstered A LOT.

1/4th commitment?(ae): played locally once a week at most(sometimes even less), no online play at all, stream monstered A LOT.

No commitment(ver.2012): no play at all, stream monstered A LOT.

Nowadays: stream monster whenever schedule allows it, right now I'm thinking about starting to play music again more than playing video games.

Can someone pinpoint exactly when I "left" the FGC? (Was I even a part of it?) Because I think I'm still a part of it(at least of #FGCdads).

EDIT:
Holy shit, hoodaman beat Ricky Ortiz from losers - 6-1 - holy fuck.

His performance was excellent - probably the only time hoodaman can win against a player of that caliber.

Link please? Was it SF4? Was he using honda?

In my opinion, people treat the FGC too much like a club that you "join" or "leave".

Well, this might just be me, but I don't really consider people as "in the FGC" or not (anymore). It's really more like a network to me. If no one you know considers you as a fighting game player anymore, you might as well not be "in the FGC".

Zhi godlike as always:

Youtube comment:

"Nah I'd just rather see fighting game footage from a channel that was created for fighting game footage and interview of people that professionally play fighting games...[blah blah]"

"What are you talking about? This is very high level professional DOA5 gameplay."

*dead*
Damn those girls really do 300 crunches a day to stay in shape?

I do 50 a day and call it a solid workout. 0_0

FGC is anybody who goes to tournaments in California or New York. Only.

The right combination of abdominal exercises will do even more in less than 70 total reps. That is my experience as someone who used to do 200+ situps a day back in HS.

There is some seriously wicked stuff you can do to your torso in less than 100 reps. I really need to work out again...

I honestly think my bed is giving me back problems.

It's hard as fuck and tough for me to get out of bed every morning. My parents philosophy was that a harder bed is better for your back, and yeah I'm no scientist here but I think that's not working out.

This thread has motivated me to up my crunches numbers.

Kadey must have a 6 pack by now...

Also you don't want a hard bed, you want a firm bed. Big difference.

LMAO! wait...

Care to explain in detail please?

I used to do like 500 a day too, and i didn't have a six pack.... Then i started running. If you want abs you're going to have to run.

This is true. It's a combination of both. I run 3 miles twice a day as well. For someone like me, I actually have way more energy from doing it than not.

Don't know if it will work for everybody but I lay my body 90° to a wall with my legs leaning up against it and just do crunches cross armed with my arms touching my legs.

Same here. Problem is right when my back started healing up I hurt it again in the gym.

I run 3+ miles a day too. I also do push ups, weight lifting etc. I just never knew you had to do that many crunches just to stay in shape or look good. Personally I think I am fine physically, still a bit on the skinny side but getting there to the 20 bmI mark.

workout tips for skinny guys plz.

and when I mean skinny I mean skinny

I've tried to start working out like a million times and it's never worked. Dunno whether I should try to gain weight first or do the workout at the same time to try and gain weight that way.

Calisthenics man.

Go to fitness GAF and ask.

Your BMI is below 20 right now? Man you're a tiny dude(for your height), quit jogging and eat a lot more. Eventually you'll start putting on some mass.

As for me, I've been dieting and exercising for the past 7 weeks. I haven't done a single crunch during that time. And my abs are semi-visible despite me not having much mass on me. Basically whether you want to lose weight or maintain it, you don't need to do a shit ton of crunches. Just exercise and eat well.

Yeah, do this. I've been sort of a regular there the past couple of months. There is a good group of guys who can be pretty helpful. Just read the op first before you ask a question.

What I wouldn't give to have that problem T_T

Been grinding on again/off again for just under a year from the other side, okay progress but only 3/4ths of the way to my goal (dem periods of committal/noncommital and last year of school and other excuses). At least I'm almost there.

It is mostly in eating right. Exercise helps but I've only fixed my diet more recently.

Also, plateaus suck ass.

I'm 6 foot 4 and have always been too thin. Not much worked for me either because anything I gained just got burnt off.

However as I got older, I got fatter, just through eating shit and not exercising. That bit is easy.

Once I put on some bulk I was able to get some results with a three day weight program I followed for about 6-8 months (can post or pm if interested) coupled with running 5k's a couple of times a week. Once you have a bit if muscle retained everything works better. I already had a high protein diet so didn't change much there.

I'm not knocking out Drew Grimey any time soon, but I'm fit enough to do what I want now and I'm happy to take the old shirt off. Only do 30 or so sit ups a day, but do it holding weights on an elevated bench which works for me. Everybody has a six pack, it is just about losing the weight. Abdominal strength should be the go to help you achieve it (especially with running)

Big key I think is to join a gym, so it is competitive and recording/planning things out. No different to getting better at a fighting game really.

Padtricks Dante is so ASS.

Yeah I used to be a regular there as well. Some of the dudes there are very knowledgeable.

FGC gaf talking about fitness?

I've also been working out for the past year, been on and off. Trying to workout this entire semester and as much as I can. I've lost a lot of weight over the past year, but now I'm just trying to reduce my body fat percentage to the point where my abs are visible. I'm a pretty skinny guy though, trying to gain mass has been pretty hard for me. Getting in all the right nutrition is the hardest part of the battle honestly.

Even though I only got to see 3 matches of X-Ray's Zero, he has the execution to be a good zero player. Just lack knowledge and what not, but woah he actually hit a happy birthday lighting loop. That shit is hard as fuck especially if it's on PS3 because the slow down will totally fuck up your timing.

P.S Enzo don't worry when you hit your early to mid 20's (23-25) you're going to realize you're gaining weight a lot faster than normal... I ate whatever the fuck I wanted throughout high school and college and never gain a pound. Few years later ... the weight just adds up so quick, I actually have to work out now. =(

Why is Art playing funky ass Italian music on his stream. Sounds like he's playing some blazgreen too. They are laughing at everything. OMG now he has Suikoden music on.

I also run a couple miles a day. :o

I've been weight lifting for the past month or two, and I think I've gained way too much muscle mass. Time to stop and play more Marvel instead. D:

Pat Bateman does a thousand crunches every session.

I alternate days. I lift weights one day, then run 6-10 miles the other(whatever I get in an hour). I rest one day a week. I stopped for a long time so I'm not in as good shape as I was though, but it's coming back. Going back to my old diet's the hard part.

Letting you guys know in here too...

Gonna be doing Persona 4 Arena ranbats next month, with some Persona related prizes.
Tournaments will be weekly, but I'm still not completely decided on the format yet.

Whoever has the most points at the end of the ranbat period (also undecided, most likely just through October) will get either Persona 4 Golden or Persona 4 The Animation Part 1 (your choice), or maybe something else.

There'll also be another Persona related prize (not the same thing, or even the other choice, but something) that anyone who enters every tournament has a shot at winning.
Just make sure to show up to every tournament and I'll include you in a random drawing.
Of course if the highest point holder is there every week, they're also eligible.
The exact prize is undecided, and I probably won't say what it is until everything's over anyways.

So yeah, the ranbats will begin on the 1st weekend of October, either Friday or Saturday (also undecided, but most likely Saturday), exact start time is undecided too.

So if you guys have any suggestions on the format or whether these should be Friday or Saturday, and what time we should start, let me know, or hit up the Persona 4 Arena thread.

Also, just a few things regarding participants...
Sorry, 360 people, but this is PS3 only, since I'm too poor to do 2 of these...
Also please North America only. I expect most would be NA anyways, but just letting you guys know ahead of time.

I can't stream or record or anything either, so it'd be cool if someone wants to help out there too.

I'm hoping to do this more than once as well, but can't say for sure yet.
