Rereading Final Crisis for the umpteenth time and it always blows my mind how many people don't like this story. I wonder how many that have read it and didn't understand it have read Kirby's Fourth World books? So that is my question to you Comics-Gaf, if you didn't get Final Crisis have you read the Fourth World?

I've read both. "Got" Final Crisis but don't think it comes close to Fourth World.

I enjoyed Final Crisis, but only after re-reading it in trade. I can understand why people dislike it though. In monthly format it is kinda maddening, there was so much to keep up with.

And if you didn't read the Superman Beyond issues, you were left saying "who the f***" is that???" when the final villain was revealed.
The delays and the rushed art didn't help either, JG Jones really had some issues at the end and the coloring was all messed up too. For a monthly "event" comic, being late and difficult to understand is almost unforgivable

I want to read the Fourth World stuff now that it's being collected in paperback

The Superman Beyond issues being separate issues and Batman showing up and dying suddenly both soured me on it. They seemed like pretty desperate attempts to get more money out of the crossover. It could have been a lot better if they had included Superman Beyond and some stuff from the Batman tie-ins and streamlined it and made it 8 or 9 issues.

It also didn't help that the Superman Beyond issues were in "3D" and thus ignored by most people because it was more expensive and was seen as a gimmick

I've read through the New Gods and Final Crisis falls short of the wild imagination Jack had on display. I even read FC in the Morrisson reading order and that didn't help any.

Sadly Final Crisis was penned by Morrisson when his ego exceeded his talent. He needs to take a break.

I would have preferred the entire Final Crisis mini-series to have been illustrated by Doug Mahnke. J.G. Jones is a skilled illustrator, but not a good superhero comic artist. Nothing he did popped off the page, which is just another problem with taking these exceedingly brilliant Kirby characters and doing what they did to them.

For all the hiphop fans, I think it's time to listen to a classic for old times sake: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SPjPGeYlMU

Hulk. . . rapping?!

Hulk isn't interested in puny lyricism, he's all about the smashes to be given!

Ugh. . . Busta Rhymes. Guy went from entertaining to hilariously racist once I listened to his albums. He's no KRS-One, who can tinge his lyrics with issues of race; but his understanding of the larger picture is like an ocean compared to Busta Rhymes puddle on the sidewalk after a rain shower.

Precisely my experience with it.
I bought the floppies when they were released and was totally underwhelmed with the whole thing. I ended up disliking it and the ending seemed nonsensical. Plus, it felt like a very weak payoff to 52/countdown (because it wasn't supposed to be).

Later on, I bought the HC, including Superman Beyond, read it in one sitting and I was blown away.

To this day, I think this is one of the best books of the 21st century and I reread it pretty often.

That being said, I hadn't read all the fourth world stuff at the time, nor SSV, Batman RIP or last rites.

I wasn't saying Final Crisis was as good as the Fourth World by any means, just that I can see FC being confusing if you didn't know who the New Gods are and weren't familiar with the concepts of the Fourth World. I'm as big of a Morrison fan as anyone around, but he's not Kirby by any stretch.

With all the
Black Diamond
references in the newest solits, could this be correct?

I fear for the appearance of
NuClipso
if true. :|

Superhero of the Month blog is having a Dragon contest!

Savage Dragon for those who ain't hep to the Larsen jive.

Took a moment to try my hand at re-tooling Dragon tonight to be a bit more Dragon-ish and Eastern heroic. Too much big titty Indian sculpture (I would have included one of the female cast members, but keeping it SFW and on time were against me) and Dynasty Warriors y'all! :3

Back to commissions.

Then I need to manage to try and produce something for an art show with a deadline of this Monday. Would have had something done, but that freelance gig got in the way. D:

What kind of paper is that?

Bily is awesome as full on Shazaam. Can't wait for this brah to join the Leaue at the end of the year and get his own book. Announce the fourth wave eplease.

I was a bit worried that the Gillen/McKelvie Loki Point One story would be some kind of cocktease, either for a story that wouldn't materialize until some point in the far-off future (like the Age of Ultron, Coldmoon/Dragonfire, and Watcher stories in last year's), or for a book written by a lesser writer. So I asked Tom Brevoort directly:

Can you confirm that the Gillen/McKelvie Point One story will set up an ongoing series written by Gillen that will launch by the end of March?

I'll throw you a bone. Yes.

:D

When's NYCC? My guess is it will be then.

October 11-14

What's the most books johns has ever done at once? I'm worried a shazam ongoing would mean he's off aquaman, but at the same time it might be worth it. No point in even discussing if he'd leave justice league or green lantern. They don't have another flagship author to replace him on JL and the man is going to keep writing GL until he dies.

A gonna pass GL to me brah when he sees my pitch.

Just read Batgirl: Year One. Really enjoyed it, funny how she kept mentioning the Oracle story. Just wondering where Babs was during Batman: Year One? Unless she wasn't born yet?

Got the Daredevil: Yellow tpb, love it.

Can ya'll recommend any other DD stories? Yellow was my first.

The entire :color series is awesome. If you didn't read Spiderman: Blue, do it, it's one of the best spidey stories evar.

Also, The Bendis/Maleev run was very good and the present Millar run is good, too. Daredevil is a character particularly blessed with good writers who have the time and freedom to do awesome stuff with him.

Kryptonian brah, Brett Booth is leaving the Titans. Definitely gettin the fourth wave in February. Hope they bringin a new writer at this point and focusing Bunker, Cass, KF and add lue Beetle and Static.

Spidey Blue is next on my list for sure!

What's the deal with Captain America White? I can't seem to find much about it.

As someone who is seen ragging on Loeb a lot. Spider-Man: Blue is a good book.

So....what's the story with Aliens vs. Dinosaurs?

I know it's going to be a film, but this huge hardcover premium book ends with a cliffhanger and no news of a part 2.

If this was supposed to be a prologue to the film, they should have done this closer to the actual film release date.

Loeb has biggest ups and downs. He is one of my favorites ever when he is good and liefeld-level bad when he is bad.

he sure does...didnt he do long halloween? great stuff, amazing...then he did ultimate spiderman...thanks alot Loeb...cant wait for nova to rape all that DnA did for the Xandarians.. at least its not Richard, Marv Wolfman and Len Wein are safe from disgrace and grief they will feel for their character.....for now.

He is no longer good, period. He lost his mind, tragically, when his son died and nothing he has written since then has been good.

I came to post this. His ups were followed by his downs and there is no sign that's going to reverse itself. Buy his old stuff, and then stop there.

Ultimatum. USM has been consistently good since its creation. But yeah...I am not looking forward to his take on Nova.

Anyone know how frequent the Omnibus line come out? I want to collect the remaining TASM Masterwork trades after Omnibus Vol. 2, but afraid that Omnibus Vol. 3 might be coming within the next year.

Also, how is American Vampire?

I'm sure this is probably retconned by some idiot these days, but iirc Babs isn't Jim's daughter, she's a neice that joined him a couple years into his stay in Gotham but he ended up adopting her. I honestly can't remember anything about her parents though...

tbh I think this is mostly just writer fanwank accounting for not only her absence from Year One but also the fact that Jim's wife is also called Barbara.

Yeah I've read on various Wikis that Babs was originally his daughter pre-crisis, then post-crisis she was his niece then to become his adopted daughter. Batman then discovered a letter from Babs, saying that Jim dated her mother a few months before her mother and father got married, showing that there's a chance that Babs is Jim's biological daughter. Strange they kept going back and forth on it. In my mind, she has been always Jim's daughter anyway.

Amazing and one of my most anticipated books every month. It's created it's own mythology, is very character driven, and avoids the typical vampire stereotypes. In fact, even the minis are worthwhile.
I don't read either but I think it's far more appealing than his popular Batman book, a $3.99 rehash of 20+ year-old Joker stories.

Weird since his run hasn't had the Joker in it yet, but blindly hate what you like I guess.

You don't read either yet you spout off with nonsense. Comics, folks, comics.

"[I think American Vampire is] more appealing." I'll probably pick up Death of the Family in trade. Blind hatred!

Who cares? You haven't read either and you're wrong about your only assertion.

Dissing something you haven't read/seen/experienced is the most idiotic thing ever.

Well if you count Black Mirror as the start of his run, then Joker was in it. And he was AWESOME.

Once and it wasn't a rehash of a 20 year old story. Dude's a douche. The worst kind.

You make claims that aren't true, and haven't read shit. What's the purpose except to bash something you obviously are clueless about and to look ignorant?

If you had read any of his run, you wouldn't think it would be a rehash of 20+ year of Joker stories, but you obviously needed to look cool and not like the popular 3.99 book.

You wanted to shit on something, so you did it. Congrats.
I don't see how any of my claims are untrue. Unless you consider your subjective opinions sacrosanct.

The book is $3.99. It is going back to the tired and true Batman well. I consider a cheaper, more original series from the same writer more appealing. Sorry that this offends you so much.
