i can't believe my thread is going to end with manga talk.

Hoax Hunters #1 was okay, i'm not sure if i want to continue reading though, will judge things based on reviews when the other issues come out. It's one of those books that doesn't quite put the hooks in yet feels like the material and ideas are there.
Bro dont worry I'll bring it back.

So have any of the side storie issues from AvX or the Divided We Fall Arc been any good?

I'm actually not much of a manga reader. When I said putting manga on my tablet, I was exclusively referring to JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (which is awesome and you should all read it). Although I did watch the Naruto and Bleach animes for 3 or 4 years until they got so awful I couldn't take it. But I stand by the early parts of those series having been good.

jojo is a pain. mainly due to diamond is unbreakable being unreadable.

"Following Marvel’s lead in giving Joss Whedon on over-all consultancy role for their movie making endeavours, Fox have done the same with Mark Millar and their Marvel movies. At the moment this entails The Wolverine, X-Men: Days of Future Past and Fantastic Four, but it’s bound not to end there."

Saw this story on bleedingcool, didn't check to see where they got it but whatttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt

fucking millar. its like the mere mention of his name stresses me out.

You know Cap being elected President should be something from a bad issue in the 1970s....but it works. Is it silly? Yeah but after watching Cap smash drones and save everyone...it doesn't matter you're fine with it.

Should have kept Daredevil then, could have put together a Wolverine: Enemy of the State Movie (minus SHIELD of course)

i started off on good terms with Millar's work, i loved his initial Ultimates run, Old Man Logan, and Superman Red Son. But his second run on Ultimates with Ultimate Comics, Kick Ass, Supercrooks, Superior, Nemesis, and Fantastic Four have left me a bit bitter.

Fuck whoever destroyed the GL movie. Guggenheim. I refuse to believe that Geoof Johns played a role in destroying this franchise. Instead shit like the Avengers is the premiere comix book movie franchise when it should've been GL. I will never let this happen again.

" I KNOW,RIGHT!" Watching Green Lantern reminded me of The Producers, trying to make it as bad as possible....except instead of a play, a movie, and instead of a cheap budget, spending $150million.

So, I have a new tablet, and besides manga and videos, I want to make an attempt at comics.

The issue being that I am pretty biased against them from the getgo for many of the standard reasons that get brought up on GAF from time to time.

Honest question - why fucking bother? Youre post basically reads as "I don't like western comics, do my research for me and tell me what comics to read". To which my answer is why fucking bother.

Look, there are scores of great comics out there. The same ones are bought up again and again and again. Do a bit of research, find out what stands out to you, try it out, then come back and tell us how much it sucked.

Here are some clues - there are many long long runs by single authors on superhero books. Geoff Johns (before he got really shitty), did epic runs on The Flash, Green Lantern and Justice Society. All good. grant Morrison is just finishing up a 5 year run on Batman. Brilliant stuff. Brian Bendis on Daredevil was absolutely sublime. Warren Ellis' Planetary run is godly. James Robinson did 80 issues of Starman, one of the finest comics-as-novels you'll ever find.

Can anyone tell me what I need to buy to store and take care of issues I buy? I normally buy comics on Comixology or I buy trades. I picked up Hawkeye #1 a week ago and want to start buying more issues. What else do I need besides the long boxes?

Deep pockets. Faulty critical faculties. A thick skin.

I can see why you got hooked though, Hawkeye is a stylish, brilliant book. There are very very few out there like it. And none of them are by Matt Fraction.

I feel that avx's strengths are in it's side stories and by reading the side stories the event just feels that much better. It's a shame it is that way because you would imagine the "meat" of the story would be in the main book, but what can you do.

Well yes and no since it is a Marvel Event, it just sucks figuring out what is worth it. But yeah it sucks that you can read the whole thing and miss a ton of depth that is impossible in 12 issues.

The best way to appreciate Marvel events - and I say this purely from a storyline point of view, although it has other obvious advantages - is to do something I can't say for fear of a ban. :X

But check out how that turned out for Fear Itself. It is so much better to read it this way. It also made me like Civil War and Planet / World War Hulk.

I have no doubt it will also be the case with AvX.

Ok, but oh god, I love neogaf so much.

You ask for people on the internet to lend you all the issues and since they are such good comic fans, they arrange it in a way that even the chronology makes sense. It helps a lot.

never forget, never forgive. Grudge 4.

Some thoughts on what I read this week.

SPOILER WARNING

FF #22 - Awesome. I love how Hickman can make an awesome issue without any big fight scenes or plot twists. This issue is all about the interaction between the FF characters. I don't want to see Hickman go, even though he's going to another book I (or I'll) read.

Talon #0 - I liked it. Maybe I'm just a sucker for anything Court of Owls though. Talon does come off like an alternate dimension Robin or something, but the insight into the Court of Owls is interesting. This issue makes me wonder if Bruce was meant to be a Talon too. Did he check his own teeth? :P This could turn into a cool series if it stay focused on the Court of Owls stuff and Talon doesn't end up solving random crimes around Gotham or something. Also, seeing more owl ninjas is cool. :)

X-Men Legacy #274 - Better than Rogue on Mars, but still not that good. It was OK. It just seems like with Avengers last week, these characters are in 2 places at once and the writers don't even care. Maybe it will make more sense to me after AVX #12. Magneto looked pretty sinister when he put on his helmet. Could he be going back to his old villainous ways? I kind of hope so.

Amazing Spider-Man #694
- Pretty good. The Avengers and the plane stuff came off pretty well. I felt some tension and it was exciting. The end of Alpha was very anti-climactic though. Did they really not have anything else they could have done with that? I thought this was going to go for more than a few months.

Wolverine & the X-Men #17 - Loved it. So much better than last issue. It was funny and lighthearted all the way through. Very well done. Also, the artist from Madman? Awesome!

I did find it odd that Alpha wasn't shown in all the Marvel Now stuff...

.....Come to think of it, what the hell happened to those chinese twins that were introduced a while back? Coldmoon and Dragonfire. Are we just not doing that anymore?

Those broads are going to tie the whole Marvel Now universe together if it fails.

I think one of the solicits for an X-book mentioned Chinese twins, not entire sure though.

I concur...but one thing I like and I think this is a huge plus in selling comics is Comixologys guided viewing I have some old PD comics (Atomic War is kind of neat, lasted one issue it's about US vs SU) from the golden age and while viewers work with them, I can't help but wish they had GV. I actually find buying comics using it to be a huge plus and something I don't mind paying for.

LOL.

Oh, before it slips my mind, how was Red Lantern 0, everyone? I haven't gotten a chance to get it yet and while I am a fan of the corps, their current series hasn't been too impressive. I continue to read it due to...I guess it's a sense of loyalty. Not because I really enjoy it like say, Aquaman or All Star Western.

Where is the "brain" in Uncanny Avengers?

And The Avengers heavy hitters are Hulk and Iron Man? I like Hawkeye and Black Widow but if Thanos, Annihilus, Galactus, Apocalypse, Ultron, a gang of sentinels, etc come looking for trouble, not much they're going to be able to do.

I've held off praising this book until i read a few more issues and now that i'm at #3, it's time. Mudman, by Paul Grist, is the type of book that fits with what i'm usually looking for: a "fun" book with light atmosphere that still has panel layouts, dialog, and plotting that keep me interested in not just an issue, but turning every page. It's not "epic" so far, but the plots been moving in three issues with a good outlook. If you're interested in cape books but want something a tad different, give Mudman a try. Besides, it involves mud powers...that has to be worth an issue at least, right?

That J. Scott Campbell Spidey story will come out right alongside Jeph Loeb's Captain America White

And I'm so glad this Alpha story is over for the time being. I know he'll be back, but let's just move on for awhile.

How long has it been since his Spidey book was announced? 6 Years?

Lindsey Lohan started using and his photo reference for Mary Jane evaporated overnight.

Wanda looks a bit like Cobie Smulders here, but give me some time I'll solve this Rubiks cube.

It's a shame, but Campbell started sucking ass for me the moment he started doing a Mort Drucker impersonation, but instead of working for Mad Magazine where caricature art is appreciated he was doing it in his own comics. I forget the line-up, but I do recall Seth Green and Jack Black featuring prominently. If I wanted to burn the extra calories I could track down the rest of his references on this book.

Oh well. Get paid! :P

What about All Star Wonder Woman?

Oh wait.

Adam Hughes can only be bothered to draw comics when DC pays out the ass to spite Alan Moore. ^_^
