All this does is remind me how much I hated Jean's original uniform. I'm hard pressed to think of another costume she wore that was anywhere near as dumb looking as that.
I miss Havok's tron suit already.

Gambit is like a poisonous fish. Only a real master can prepare it right. And right now, Asmus and Mann are real masters.

Gambit has been a great story so far. Not my absolute favorite but one I read and enjoy very much never the less. It's also nice to see someone else get an on-going for a while. Hope it lasts a while. Hope they cancel Wolverine because it is trash and give Cloak and Dagger a book.

I always liked Cloak and Dagger. They rarely get them right though.

And the best Gambit story was his first appearance in the Ultimate line.

I don't know why I thought Steve Trevor was in Team 7. Can't tell these blond haired, blue eyed white soldier types apart anymore. Either way, shit was cool. Still don't like NuWaller, but whatev.

Sword of Scorcery was cool. Dat Beowolf backup owns my soul.

Wonder Woman...Now this right here is what I'm talking about. Yeah the gods were up in there, but it was still about Wonder Woman. She actually did interesting stuff.

Going to pick up this week's stuff's tomorrow. Aquaman #0 is highly anticipated.

Hey, Doug Funnie grew to like Liver and Onions, then surely anybody could

Doug Funnie shouldn't be used as a role model by anyone to do anything.

I dunno, man... what about that thing she wore right after her honeymoon? With the one big cuffed boot and the blue thong that went up to her ribcage? That's the most hideous thing she's ever worn hands down.

I'm interested to see if Jean Grey gets any kind of personality in the new series. Never has there been a more boring character with that many fans. She is nothing without the phoenix.

Pardon me while I look that up.

Can't find it. But I DID find some creepy weird bikini she wore with Cyclops, and that godawful XFactor costume of hers.

This is why Phoenix Jean is better than regular Jean. Phoenix has some sense of style.

Just because she isn't a massive douchebag like the rest of the X-Men's leadership doesn't make her dull. But I would very much like to see her branch out away from the rest of the X-Men for awhile. Dream scenario for me would be for her to take the Phoenix and join Cosmic Marvel. Then she'd be fighting things that still were hard to fight, she wouldn't be stuck dealing with Scott and Logan, and she could blow stuff up to my heart's desire.

She only wore it for like a single issue, right after their honeymoon in the future raising baby Cable or some sh*t. Hang on...

Got it. It was X-Men #35.

And Bendis is definitely looking forward to writing Jean.

Yo girl! You see all these comics.

comics20120927.gif

You know you want it. :3

Spank - since you mentioned it this morning, I've been thinking. Fred Perry is an American Mine Yoshizaki. His work is loaded with goofy references for old nerds. Only Mine draws circles around him.

Then again Mine draws circles around most everybody.

Did anybody license rescue Sgt. Frog?! D:

Is this it? Because this is ugly.

And the above bolded is a bad sign, isn't it?

weird comixology sale this weekend, so far the only thing that stands out is the 5 issue Iron Age miniseries. For $5 i'll either get that or consider the OHC at amazon markeplace for $10...twice the price for an OHC? It's up for debate...

edit: Couldn't resist the OHC for $9.59 from an amazon seller. If it were standard sized i'd settle for digital. I've heard good things about this mini so i'm looking forward to getting it.

Yeeeeeep, that's the one. You have to see the whole thing though, for the full effect; Scott's blocking a considerable amount of its awfulness with his own. It's like they both said "You know what would make this honeymoon complete? Matching fashion disasters."

And why is Bendis being eager to write Jean necessarily a bad thing?

Holy shit there's a MONSTEROUS Justice League sale on Comixology right now. You've got the Keith Giffen / Kevin Macguire run, you've got the epic Morrison run, you've got JL Detroit if that's your thing. Hell, there's even some Elseworlds.

Get on that shit, folks. Tons of quality on the cheap.

EDIT: Oh, and I totally forgot to mention that they've got JL Generation Lost, which is one of the best Justice League stories of the last decade. So da,n quality.

Guys....I just finished the
prison arc
of Walking Dead.

HO. LEE. SHIT. FUCK FUCK FUCK. That was so fucking ridiculous. Man....

I would read a story about Iron Man and the Phoenix traveling space together.

I might be mistaking Bendis for someone else. There's some writer in here everyone cries when he writes a story. But I was just asking if it was. I mean, I don't know how bringing Jean to the future could possibly end well, but who knows.

In more Kieron Gillen news, Phonogram: The Immaterial Girl has officially been delayed into 2013, likely the latter half, due to "scheduling issues." Said issues are apparently unrelated to the Gillen/McKelvie Point One story or to any project spinning out of it.

He has a new creator-owned project to be announced at NYCC, though, and hopefully his second Marvel NOW! book will be revealed there as well.

This bums me out but after going so long without hearing anything about it I kind of suspected something was up.

Got issues 10-26 of Morrison JLA and New Frontier sitting in my cart. Anything else y'all recommend?
I don't know how well it has aged but I remember loving The Nail back in the day.

I'm trying hard to not double dip on stuff I physically own so I only picked up the Tower of Babel, New Frontier and the Black Lightning Saga.

Larry Hama's Spooks
Garth Ensis's Punisher
Ultimate Ultimates
Batman New 52 Night of Owls
AvX-Just read the free program guide as it was a good jumping off point for me...but what is with this
weak Magneto and Charles walking around stuff
will be a first reaction. The President of Iran appearance is SO SO SO FUCKING WORTH IT!
OH Hulk FUCKED UP some Sasquatch recently!

Batman - Black Mirror in Detective Comics
Flash - Rogue War
Spider-Man - Spider Island or Big Time
Hulk - Planet Hulk

All are available in a competed trade.

For Bats, you could go for essential reading like: Year One -> Long Halloween -> Dark Victory -> Killing Joke -> A Death in the Family, and then you'll be able to jump into completed sagas like Knightfall and No Man's Land. By that time you will reach the Hush setting and you can read more recent stuff.

And not an Marvel/DC comic, but I recommend you "Invincible" on Image Comics . It's a great spin on the superhero genre (once I read that the premise is something around the lines of "What if Spiderman had Superman's powers"? and it's very accurate to an extend), and it's friendly for new readers, too. The first issue is also free on digital.

And speaking of Super, you can try All-Star Superman, it's a great read and you don't need to know too much about Superman aside from the basic mythos (As an example, a friend who only knew about Superman by the Donner's movies got to read it and he was blown away)

Thanks guys. I started out with The Dark Knight Returns and Planet Hulk for now. Both seem great at a first glance for different reasons.
I'll make sure to check in on most of your other suggestions after that.

Wolverine and the X-Men 17, officially my favorite single issue of all time.

I can't speak for anyone else, but for me that man is Jeph Loeb.

Most recent appearances in AvX.

Thanks.

The shoulder cape design is pretty neat. Though I can't tell what's going on with everything there.

Olivier Coipel and wide-face vision. I enjoy his art, but dude needs to be drawing M.O.D.O.K. He's perfect for it!

Is the second image dat Tom Raney?! :3

So it can get cancelled again? No. My heart can't take it another time.

Panther needs his Simonson. At this point it sounds like Priest was that man.

Stop right there brah and don't read another issue.

So glad the Justice League sale goes throughout the weekend, gives me time to put some dough in my account.

A word of warning - I find TDKR dense and hard to read now, and I've been reading comics for 20 years. I relly don't think it's a beginner's book.

It is, however, spectacular. But I feel I only get the most out of it these days from knowing the history of the medium, where it fits in context and what Miller was doing with the character.

YMMV, obvs.

Year One is the better entry-level Miller Batman.

the movie that came out could be a good supplement for the book. Perhaps that could help.

Also, more info on this Avengers Arena thing coming out. They are really playing up the homage factor to things like Battle Royal and Hunger Games with the covers.

Damn!

Half Century War #2 delivers!

You all need to be buying this!

Stokoe is drawing his ass off. This is what comics are about, baby!

It's sort of an "Ultimate" / Nu52 take on Godzilla. So you don't need to be familiar with one of the most iconic characters of the past 50 years or anything. :P

Really? The last Godzilla comics I saw were pretty bad. I'd be pleasently surprised if they are actually good. Haven't been able to force myself to read the otherones I have via Comixology.

One of the greatest pains of my lifetime has been the terrible quality of Godzilla comics. This one is fantastic.

I'm not sure if Stokoe is a Godzilla fan or not, but this one works. Art, story. It's great two issues in. It's a five issue series, so it's not a huge commitment.

Man, now I can't wait for my Godzilla Blurry Disk to arrive. :3

Even better when you read it with this in the background.

I actually like Bendis more often than I don't. Sure he isn't the perfect writer, but I feel like so many people over react when he comes to topic.

My only real problem with Bendis is the same a lot of folk have: his dialouge. Dude has really good ideas, but whenever I read his more recent stuff, the wordy dialouge gets in the way.

Yeah, I was kinda getting at his dialogue with my "not the perfect writer" comment as politely as I could. I mean, I see what he is trying to do with it and where he is going with it, but his execution needs work. I also think that Marvel should give him a break. Have him write a few stories, but not, for example, every Avenger book that came out in the last decade. Perhaps people wouldn't be so up in arms about him if he wasn't "shoved down our throats".

Bendis is like 1:3 ratio of great to shit. I have no hope for All New X-Men based on the little script teasers we've seen. Beast "wondering what their younger selves would think" was about as subtle as a trainwreck.

^ That Iceman variant is awesome. I actually love the snow-man with boots look that he used to have. His current form looks to angular and he's nude :s
