Black Ops II NDAs lifted - YouTuber impressions

I assume all the footage is from 360, any PS3 or WiiU impressions? Would love to know how broken are those versions.

Still don't know if I'm interested in BO 2 or not. It definitely doesn't seem as bad as MW3 but as my brother is buying it on 360, the though of going back to a competitive FPS without M/KB doesn't really appeal to me.

At least it looks better aesthetically. Express is the best looking CoD map I've seen. Some really nice clean colours.

*all guns in all videos lacking any recoil*

Either Treyarch is lying or everyone in the videos have played long enough to know what attachments to put on their guns to make compensate for the recoil or have simply learned to adapt to it. What we have been shown have been carefully edited clips. They're at least two minutes long. Not entire matches. I don't think we should automatically jump to that the recoil claim is a lie.

Regardless of attachments you shouldn't be able to go full auto and still have most, if not all, rounds hit at medium to long ranges.

Treyarch completely fucked up the PS3 version of Black Ops in my opinion, the game ran like absolute shit.

So i'm wary about this one. Maybe i'll pick it up for the Wii-U someday.

The boat map could easily fit into MW3. The class design allows you to requip whatever you want, but base on similar perks and weapons, not that big of a difference. I know I'll probably be running a similar setup with sub machine, anti UAV / air support / silence perks and stringer.

I'd be weary too of getting the PS3 version. I initially got Blops on PS3 and it was terrible. Not sure if it was ever fixed but I sold it like a month later. Disconnects everywhere and the frame rate was horrible compared to the 360 version.

Interested.... But the community since 2009 haa become such a cesspool to the point I dont think I can take it anymore.

Also treyarch porting black ops was a joke. It was an even bigger joke when they denied how bad it was on other systems.

And yes im talking bout the ps3 verison

I feel the same way. Luckily Party Chat on 360 has turned all MP games into pure silence over comms, for the most part.

If someone told me this is the best COD since COD4, I might bite. I'd hate to be a broken record, but COD4 will forever be my gold standard when it comes to console COD games.

I'm conflicted. This one comment at that article sums up what I felt about BLOPS 1...
I think that comment right there just convinced me that out of the plausible alternatives, BO2's probably the best.

I couldn't stand those types of servers, nor the fact that 9 out of 10 of them were 16-slots and a lot of BO1's maps were just a pain to play with 16-players. I have to admit, I want a more controlled environment when it comes to the recent Call of Duty titles, especially when so many unlocks/perks/streak rewards are factors.

lol, reading the comments seems like alot of pc gamers are mad about this.

Well, we'll see. I'm sure a lot of those in there are crouch-only jerkfaces.

At first I didn't know how to feel, but then I remembered the fun I had getting kicked from every server I played in because I liked using my spacebar. Only 1% of server admins are worth a shit, so I'll let this ride and see how it is. I'll miss my HCTDM EC servers.

Why not just go for the mute-all. The only game where I personally ever see a "gg" anymore is Team Fortress 2 and even that can get out of hand sometimes.

I think it was Black Ops(which was the last Call of Duty I played on a regular basis) had a "part only" chat option. I enabled that from the get go and loved it. The only thing that was odd was having my friends talk shit one way. I never knew who or what they were talking about.

EDIT: Now that I think of it. Maybe I just always muted everyone. I think it's Halo that had the chat options. Man, it's been a while with either game.

Black Ops 1 was pretty bad on Xbox 360 as well, the framerate drops in multiplayer were extremely noticeable. Word at War hat horrible dips, too.

Just set your voice communication-setting in the online/privacy preferences of the dashboard to "friends only" - you'll never have to listen to anyone not on your friends list ever again. This settings works across all games and really enhances the Xbox multiplayer experience.

Not nearly as bad as PS3. My friend picked up the 360 version and it was like night and day compared to the PS3 version. I still remember napalm strikes bringing the frame rate to a crawl lol

I played Black Ops on the 360 for 2 weeks when the PSN went down and I don't remember there being much noticeable difference between the two. The slow down during Napalm being the biggest thing but thats hardly a game breaker IMO.

It was the shitty network code on the PS3 version that really got to me. Absolutely unforgivable for a CoD game.

They released some PC information yesterday (Servers/Matchmaking). It could make or break the game for some people:

http://community.callofduty.com/com...-online-security-matchmaking-and-server-intel

I don't get why they won't allow both.
On second thought, there are some clear benefits and disadvantages to this system. The biggest negative about a game being solely-matchmaking is that it in a few years, this game will be unplayable. MW2 PC is in this state right now. The playerbase is so small that it takes waaaaay too long to find any game due to the factor they're divided by 16 playlists and several DLC packs. Even if you do find a game, the geographic disparity between players is so vast that lag will be a blatant factor. My fear is that by the time BO2's successor comes out, BO2 PC will go the route of MW2 PC.

At least MW3 PC implemented a server browser to ensure that when the matchmaking playerbase has dwindled, people will still be able to find unranked games. In the case of BO2, the playerbase will dwindle but then what? Will providing dedicated servers still be profitable for Activision or will they have to shut them down? Eventually, they're going to have to open the floodgates for rentals and enable a server browser. I don't think they'll do that though.

Ugh, I don't think I'll be picking up BO2 PC without some kind of assurance that two-years after the game is out, I will still be able to play the multiplayer and find games.

Separate tangent: Just thinking about MW2 PC however makes me mad because the video games press were just in crazy defense of IW doing matchmaking for MW2 PC. A lot of them cited, "Well, I don't want spend so much time in front of a server browser, I just want to get into a game." Well you morons at Giantbomb/1up/IGN/basically every video game site, the playerbase for MW2 PC isn't high enough to "just get into a game" anymore. Nice job defending IW idiots.

Why not? That "shit" is a fun distraction outside of the normal COD experience.

The problem is that finding the actual normal COD experience becomes absurdly difficult. The same thing applies to Battlefield (800 ticket servers, 2 map rotations, etc.) and plenty of other shooters.

Fellow GAFfers I asked about this earlier but the non-mandatory Physics Install on PS3 that is coming will have any advantage beside wearing and making less noise when reading the Blu-ray drive?

Could it help other features in any other way? Thanks in advance.

What's with all the proneshotting in all the vids I'm seeing lately? That shit is almost instant, where in the first Black Ops, there was kind of a delay.

Because it sucks that 95% of the servers are infected, crouch-only, snipers-only and/or high jump. If you want to play regular Call of Duty, you have no choice but to use matchmaking.

Is it just me or is the game speed look even faster somehow than MW3? It seems like when they are walking, the speed they are moving is at like a fast jog. do not like this

I couldn't agree more. This game looks really fast, which makes me sad since one of the reasons Blops is my favorite CoD is the lower speed :/

And forcing matchmaking and reducing choices makes it better? If you want a controlled standard experience, go play on consoles.

I read the OP. Got really excited. Saw the video's and saw nothing that validates the OP opinion stuff.

Yup, tried MW3 during the last free weekend on Steam. Hackers in like 80% of the games I played during that one hour I had the game installed.

I played one TDM and went 0 - 20, I had zero chance, spawned and was dead. Felt like a sucky version of a bad UT mod. Uninstalled it, will never look back.

I own BLOPS on PS3 and this is the first time I heard the game is unplayable, I actually have played both versions and I always had a blast with the game.

I guess this is neogaf being neogaf
