Black Ops II NDAs lifted - YouTuber impressions

I was huge COD player up until MW3, which I didn't even pick up until this summer. I didn't even hit 80 before trading it in toward Borderlands 2, but yeah, the MW3 maps are uniformly awful.

I still feel CoD4s DLC was the best in the series.

I must be the minority when I say I loved Creek. Maybe cause I sniped. Lol.

I may get this game. MW3 had such horrible designed maps, there are doors and windows and tunnels everywhere.

This, I loved the simple maps of the first Modern Warfare. From then on, 2 and 3 makes everywhere you go a walk of death as you have literally half a dozen different angles you can be shot from. I don't find playing this series(or video games in general) much fun anymore, but I'm willing to give BLOPS2 a shot just to give the series one more chance. I never did try the first BLOPS because I didn't like World at War. But maybe Treyarch can somewhat redeem themselves and the series to me.

As for controls, keep it easy and simple. Isn't that a very big reason why the series is so popular. If you really want to go to a more difficult weighty controls, won't that only be a turn off to the majority of there players? I think that's one formula they shouldn't mess with. Maybe a small tweak, but don't make a huge change.

Maps in MW3 and MW2 have factually bad things going on in them. You might enjoy the aesthetics or not mind any flaws, but there are objective flaws when it comes to choke points (or lack thereof) and routing in general. The only thing you can say about them is that MW2 maps had more personality than MW3 maps, so people liked them more, but they suffered from a lot of the same flaws. The blandness of MW3 maps was a problem in addition to the technical flaws.

Flaws that aren't as present in Black Ops.

I've been playing a bit of BlOps and MW3 this weekend, and while I like the layout of BlOps maps a little more, they're just so fucking boring to look at. And the slower movements makes navigating the larger ones (like Array) a real chore.
Which is why I'm excited about BlOps 2 a little more, from what they've shown the maps seem to have a lot more identity.

I think the majority had enough identity, but some were boring. This game definitely looks better. But technically speaking, the black ops maps shit on MW2 and 3 maps.

I actually think there were a couple of Blops maps that had some cool identity, like Crisis, Havana, Firing Range, Nuke Town (for better or worse), etc. Also, many of the DLC maps were awesome... damn it, now I think I'll have to go play a little!

Baloney on the recoil claims. It's still a snappy hallway turkey shoot. Whoever says there is recoil in this game hasn't played any other shooters. There is none. At all. Zip.

It looks better than the last few cods tho.

Still, is it just me or do COD maps no longer feel like "locales" within theatres anymore. They just feel like maps. I don't feel like I'm in a warzone, I feel like I'm in a rat maze being funneled toward other angry rats where charging around gung ho and unstrategically wins the day. I miss feeling like I'm immersed in a warzone, working with my team mates to defeat the enemy. Moving methodically around Overgrown, for example, or Strike. If you spent all day sprinting you got destroyed. Now if you don't perma sprint it's like you're not playing right or something.

I do like how Treyarch are rewarding team play in this more so than straight up KDR. Definately a step in the right direction for the franchise. Maybe it's just cause I'm slowing down a bit in my old age, but I'd like to see the game play move toward being a little less frantic and a bit more strategic.

Doesn't look like a big enough departure to get me away from BF3, but it looks a bit better than the last couple iterations.

MW3 maps are good to me. I only play team deathmatch so maybe that is why others don't like it.

Funny how everyone is getting hyped again, even the people who bailed out post-MW2.

I loved every COD up and including BLOPS, and finally, the fatigue has set in for me.

Will pass, I just can't bear the HUD/Graphics/Animations always staying so similar.

Lol. I understand where you coming from but that's something I hear often with the CoD community.

yup i always see someone saying that the previous will be their last but they end up getting the later one anyways lol.

Shit I admit I've done it too. But I can't help it. It's flipping addicting.

*crack addict scratch*

You didn't want to see me when MW2 came out. Oh boy. Addicting.

I haven't bought a COD game since MW2, but this looks pretty interesting. I might consider getting it on sale at some point.

Does anyone remember the hype leading into MW2?....naw fuck that

Do you guys remember the hype at midnight launch?
Especially on a college campus?

holy shit

I haven't felt that hype about the series since then. Idk I just never liked the feel of treyarch's CoD. Their cod especially black ops had this very "elitist" attitude to it. I can't explain it.

YES YES YES. Holy crap. I know this isn't Gaf-Hop but dat Till I Collapse trailer got everyone in my Senior class hyped. And a good percent didn't even listen to rap. Oooowwwwweeee. The memories. I was super anxious to pick it up at midnight.

There wont be hype like mw2 again. the reason it got that much is because it was the sequel to cod 4 which was incredible.

The follow up to the original Modern Warfare was probably the last time I was so exstatic that I actually lost some sleep. Such a disappointment, I don't think I'll ever get so excited for a game again. Maybe for Metal Gear Ground Zeroes, but that's about it.

I have to agree when you guys say the hype will never match MW2 again.

Maybe. Just maybe next gen but who knows.

But maaaaan. The hype for MW2 was absolute bonkers.

same. I was INCREDIBLY hyped for the sequel to COD4. What a crash down to earth that was. Very disappointed.

I really liked Black Ops so I'm pretty damn hyped with this, but like with all COD games these days, gotta be weary/cautious. Also I was pretty damn hyped for black ops as well since I loved world at war.

MW2 was like a massive event. I know the sequels have sold more, but MW2 was the most I've seen the general public ever get excited for a video game.

And I actually liked MW2 quite a bit, unlike most people here. Certainly more than MW3.

Only one game left that can get that level of hype anytime soon...

MW2 is the only midnight release I ever been to. So hyped after how incredibly good COD4 was.

Didn't BO sell more than MW3?
yep. Black Ops was the highest selling game of all time in amurrica with 14+ million I believe. And that's just USA. MW3 didn't even match that.

Black Ops 2 will be the game where we see if it's the modern warfare brand that's dipping, or the brand altogether.

I am sure mario bros 3 sold more than 14 million in america.

I hate to be a party pooper but I wouldn't even believe anything the devs have to say regarding the PS3 version. Especially after how bad Black Ops was on that system. Or so I hear.

I didn't think it was THAT bad, just inferior. Anyway I'm pretty sure they haven't said anything other than the usual things are improved overall with the engine and whatnot.

Also the texture installation is nothing major:

A Treyarch representative sent over some clarifications from Vonderhaar. The PS3 version of Black Ops 2 has no mandatory hard drive installation; only the textures can be installed to the disk in order to reduce the strain on the console's Blu-ray drive. "To be clear," said Vonderhaar, "this is not a texture pack." In other words, Black Ops 2 is completely different from Battlefield 3 in that the game will look the "exactly the same" whether or not PS3 players install the textures.

++ same engine so I expect same performance. I don't care what they say. I'll believe it when I see it.
