Skyfall Theme by Adele

Daniel Kleinman's previous Bond titles had NO women in them, aside from one shot of Vesper's face on the Queen of Hearts.

Not the case with this one, reporting from the shooting of the titles involved lots of models. Going for a more traditional Bond style credits sequence it seems.

I'm sure I heard about two British models who had filmed sequences for the titles.

They did. Wasn't trying to say there'd be NO women (again), just that it may not be a naked-women-fest ala Maurice Bender's 60's/70's/80's Bond titles.

Don't forget that Barbara Broccoli is a feminist.

She may be but she has been producing the Bond films since GoldenEye (I believe she was an associate producer on the Dalton films as well) and there were plenty of naked dancing girls in the Brosnan era.

I think Mendes's desire to make a more old-school Bond film will win out here.

Well I certainly hope they are there. I always enjoyed those titles as a kid! That said, the Casino Royale titles were pretty darn good.

Sure, but you can blame Broccoli for Jinx.

As it should.

Let's be real here: the director holds NO sway over these productions. If Skyfall is old school Bond, its because Broccoli/Wilson want it to be, not Mendes.

He was hired with full understanding of what he wanted to do, though. There have been no stories of drama or issues, right? It can be assumed that he's making the movie he wanted to make.

No, there have been no issues. Just saying that more than any other franchise, Bond is producer controlled. The director is hired to shoot the movie they want, how they want.

I agree that there is less room for creative freedom with them, but that doesn't mean they're not susceptible to a pitch. In this case, it seems likely to me that the writers along with Mendes and his team pitched the film they wanted to make, and the producers gave them the greenlight.

I can't imagine that they had any specific requirements at the projects inception other than: bring back familiar characters, and steer clear of what people didn't like about Quantum of Solace.

So I've been listening to Bond themes a bit to refresh myself. This is just reinforcing my belief that for the most part the Roger Moore era represents the low point of almost every element of Bond movies. If it wasn't for the Live and Let Die theme he'd be the absolute worst in EVERY category.

I would agree if it wasn't for the fact that For Your Eyes Only is one of the best films in the series.

I feel like we should find a way to come up with an official GAF List of the Best Bond themes.

Thread for voting or something?

The Moore era has the excellent(Live and Let Die, Nobody does it Better), the enjoyable(View to a Kill), the mediocre(For Your Eyes Only, All Time High, and Moonraker), and the truly dreadful(The Man with the Golden Gun).

The big issue IMO was skewing older for a few movies before correcting course with Duran Duran.

Just listened to the clip. Reminds me of Goldeneye when it ramps up a bit. I like it.

I also now have a suspicion that Newman might be involved in it's composition, thankfully. Also, I love it also has a real strong hint of the Bond theme in it - something that always helps. Anyway, HERE IS MY TOP FIVE BOND THEME TUNES JUST BECAUSE:

1. On Her Majesty's Secret Service - John Barry (best fucking thing EVER. Why hasn't it been brought back in a later film!?)
2. GoldenEye - Tina Turner/Bono/The Edge (I just love it. Brilliant return to form after the boring Licence to Kill theme. It's a very dark theme too, which was the first such example since Live and Let Die imo).
3. Thunderball - Tom Jones (THAT FUCKING VOICE)
4. From Russia With Love - John Barry (not the Matt Monroe one - the instrumental. It's badass).
5. A View to a Kill - Duran Duran (The actual song is great, but the instrumental versions in the film take it to another level. So good)

Slightly unrelated, but listening to Muse's 2nd Law now. Supremacy is basically their attempt at a Bond theme.

Edit: Apparently their drummer actually said this as well.

After the original James Bond theme, I think On Her Majesty's Secret Service assumes second in command on my list. It's so good that I think it should have become a series mainstay, an unofficial second theme akin to Metal Gear Solid's various themes.

Speaking of classic Barry themes they need to bring back....007.

Frankly, we just need to find a way to

Resurrect.

John.

Barry.

R.I.P.
I agree strongly with these sentiments.

Fuck Muse, and I'm glad that is not the song.

I am watching through my set now, and I loved this. Is it seriously not used in the other films? Because It is very good, and seems familiar even though it has been some time since I saw From Russia, so I thought it was. Maybe I just recognized some reused elements.

edit: I see you probably just meant bring back, as in to the Craig version of films. I don't know. They could probably make it work, and it is awesome, but I'm not sure if it is a perfect mesh with Craig's Bond.

In the same film, I love the first 10 seconds of the titles "Medley"

Bombastic and awesome.
