The Giant Bomb Quick Look Thread 2

9 out of 10 Quick Looks end with, "And how much is this, X?" "Uh, I don't know, Y!" (laughs)
The bold and dangerous lifestyle of a game journalist.

XCOM Quick Look really put the game on my radar. Wasn't really even thinking about it before but it looks really cool.

Regarding the Fable Journey quick look: if GB were not a member of the corporate whoreout that they are, they'd come out straight and call this game the shitfest that it truly is.

The launch trailer has the phrase ITS BEAUTY WILL ASTOUND. Whoever is responsible for the marketing is obviously blind, deaf and retarded.

To be honest, with the amount of shit they gave Sorcery, a similar game, (that video was hilarious, thanks Vinny), I wonder why they don't.

Brad already reviewed Fable and has given it a 3. He seems to think it's a good game in spite of Kinect.

In light of the occasional technical problems, The Journey gets by largely on its charm, which is in abundance. There's mirth and melancholy in equal measure over the course of the storyline, which isn't especially original but is rendered effectively nonetheless. As cheeky and lighthearted as Fable is (and this installment is no exception), it says something about the game's talent for melodrama that you end up genuinely feeling sorry for certain characters on several occasions when bad things happen to them, and the game culminates in a moment that will likely be among the most poignant seen in a game this year. The whole thing is just so gosh darn British, too, which I imagine is less of a selling point if you are British. That pervasive sprinkling of refined, humorous nonsense makes The Journey feel a little more like one worth taking, even when some of its nuts and bolts are less appealing.

More trustworthy sites seem to think its trash: http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-360/fable-the-journey. But scores don't matter all that much anyways, even the worst games always get a handful of great scores (sometimes even from reputable sources: http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-360/steel-battalion-heavy-armor/critic-reviews)

And I wouldn't buy an Xbox exclusive because the "Official Xbox Magazine" recommended it. The Quick Look speaks for itself, the game seems to play terribly and uninteresting.

Noticed that too, at the risk of kicking off another multi-page argument, I will say that I wish the guys stayed a little more informed about prices and release dates and things like that. I know they joke about fact-checking killing the podcast, but when a lot (not all) of people take what they say as gospel they should try and be as accurate as possible with that stuff.

wouldn't take any time at all to do a quick platform/availability/price info when they summarise the game at the start.

No quick look has ever made me more hype to play a game than the XCOM quick look. I've got a real bad fever to play it but need to wait til it price drops a tad.

Dishonored quick look on the other hand pretty much assured I'll never ever play that.

People are desperate for this game to be a piece of shit for some reason. Whether or not it actually is I suppose will depend on how much Kinect will foul things up for you and how forgiving you're willing to be. Because judging by the demo it does seem to be relatively entertaining when things work.

I am excited for both. I just think Patrick didn't do a good job showing of that game. he kind of was all over the place. Pursuing a mission might have made it better to follow.

That is the impression I have, doesn't look that bad but even Brad was saying that most of the time depends if Kinect works properly.

I really can see why he would give it 3 stars (altough it probably really deserves 2 )

You sure are stupid. You think they're afraid to speak poorly of some Kinect game barely anybody gives a shit about? You think they're worried they'll stop receiving review copies of games? You think they're worried CBSi will fire them for what they were hired to do and have kept doing since the buyout? Just last week they trashed Resident Evil 6.

You are just incredibly thick.

Of course the real reason they didn't trash it is because they're Xbox 360 fanboys, right?

Most of the time they are talking about Kinect, they're talking about how shitty and impractical the experience typically is. They don't give a Kinect game a low enough score and they part of a corporate whoreout? What the fuck ever.

I'm sure their Microsoft overlords are ecstatic with the score that translates to a 60% on metacritic.

My conspiracy is that Brad is now comparing every game release to Resident Evil 6.

"Hmm, I definitely liked this more than RE6, so it gets 3 stars."

Fable: The Journey (Brad/Vinny) 33:01

If you dominate with your left hand it feels like someone else is doing it

Vinny is already fantastic in this.

Does anyone else think it was bad form for GB to have someone on the quick look that worked on the game? It's pretty obvious that the bridge toll-keeper was voiced by Brad Shoemaker ("Oi! Where me money?! Oi! Oi, here!") and then we are expected to believe he can offer an unbiased opinion on the game?

Giant Bomb lost a lot of credibility with me today and frankly, I'm not sure they can ever earn it back.

I actually thought that Steel Batallion was super impressive as far as ambition and game design...it just didn't work. Even with all of the jenk and confusion with controls (there were actually too many things you could do in the cockpit), I enjoyed it for a few hours which is more than I can say about Sorcery.
