Judging Vita before its first Christmas is "preposterous" - Sony

It's a spinoff. And it will be seen as a spinoff and treated as a spinoff. It doesn't matter how much like the mainline games it is. Nobody's going to care when the game they've been waiting for comes out on the same day.

So Ubisoft made it to decorate store shelves or for people to play?

I work with kids up to age 11, and all of them were more hyped for the 3DS XL than they have ever been for the Vita. And if they're gonna be throwing down major money on a system this Christmas, it's going to be the Wii U.

2013 - Judging Vita before its second Christmas is "silly" - Sony
2014 - Judging Vita before its third Christmas is "goofy" - Sony
2015 - Aw shit we lost - Sony

Its sad too because the Vita is a great system. Marketing and price need to be in better positions so badly.

C'mon sis

VITA will rise once again like the South... right?... right?

I ain't here for for playing sales sis. Most the ppl here STILL saying Vita has no games.
Ch..

Tho in the sales perspective the arguments have a point

But It's a different game. Will people ignore super Mario bros 2 on 3ds because of super mario U? I doubt it.

They would if they all already owned Wii U's and they were coming out on the same day. To a lesser degree, since NSMB2 isn't a spinoff, which is something Sony needs to learn about with the Vita. Handhelds aren't just a place to put side games any more.

Um... ? Do you think making a game automatically leads to success?

Mario is a well established brand both on handhelds and consoles. AC? Not so much on handhelds. Its also a problem that ACIII and Liberation come within the same timeframe.

They aren't wrong to say that. I just don't think they're really going to have much good news after the holiday either.

WTF am I reading?

First y'all were saying Vita needs unique games that aren't ports. This is one of those games and now it's not a real game and its a spin off so it doesn't exist?

You are dismissed

It's a real game, but people aren't going to see it as a game that's on the same level as Assassin's Creed III. By releasing the two games on the same day, they're stupidly putting them in competition with each other and there's a very clear winner and it's not a Vita spinoff.

Please try to wrap your head around it. I put "real" in quotation marks for a reason. Sorry if that blew your mind.

Coming out at the same time with the console version is not doing it any favors. How many people are really going to know it's a separate game all together?

It's called cross promotion, and it can work sometimes. Is it risky? Sure, but I imagine Ubisoft knows more about their business strategy and planning than you do.

The thing is a damned if they do, damned if they don't scenario

They release good shit, no one takes notice
They release stupid shit, no one takes notice
They release ports of ports, no one takes notice

So they all just lump shit together and come out with "No one takes Notice"

I will never say Vita has no games, but I will say Sony needs to get it's shit together and right the ship, if it wants Vita to be profitable for the foreseeable future

I got a few games eyed for the Vita which is surprising... I have a backlog of 5 games for the damn handheld lol
Just need to buy one of those hand controller attachments

Getting Ass Creed Lib, PSABR (Cross Buy ^_^), and COD for shits n giggles!

O'RLY?

From WorthPlaying's Liberation hands-on:

WorthPlaying said:
After making it through an adventure with Aveline, we shifted over to play some Assassin's Creed III multiplayer on the Xbox 360. When the first thought that crossed our minds was, "Why isn't Aveline a choice on the console?" we realized how impressive the Vita game really was.

Our time with Aveline may have been brief, but in that hour, she left quite an impact. Assuming the full Assassin's Creed III: Liberation experience is just as polished all the way through, Ubisoft may have done what Sony couldn't: created a Vita system seller. Keep an eye on Liberation, even if you aren't currently a Vita owner.

So Epic Mickey 2 has an original "spin off" title on 3DS that releases on the same day as the "real" games that everyone will only care about. Explain that. Does that get a pass? Cross promoting portable spin off games from the console counterparts has been going on for a long time now.

Oh well if a website says it's a system seller then it must be true.

But of course. It's like PSLS who gave Resistance Burning Skies a glowingly positive review stating this:

Gun play is grand, and multiplayer stacks up to many console shooters. If you have a Vita, and like the Resistance franchise or enjoy FPS, buy this game.

OH wait.....that game was terrible.

As for AC3L, I have interest in it but it's something I'll get in December after completing AC3.

They got some solid games (despite what some think) but a price drop would have helped. They say they have got the cash for marketing, lets see what they have in store. And yeah, this thread is gonna go to shit real quick like every other vita thread.

But what are people going to *buy* this Christmas? Assassin's Creed, maybe, but... what else is there for the mass-market? There's plenty of good software coming in English this month alone, but a lot of it (Dokuro, RagOdyssey, P4G) will be hard to sell to a mainstream audience.

Sony(mostly SCEA ATM) is a hot ass MESS

Oh and I better see you getting Persona 4 tbh (add me on PSN tho ;) )

I don't disagree with the sentiment, but Sony hasn't exactly shown a reason why this Christmas will be great for the console outside of the traditional holiday season bump.

Way to put words in my mouth.

It won't be a system seller either. It might have a better shot by 1) being on a more successful platform, and 2) being completely different from the 3D version (as in, it's not a 3D adventure game, it's a side scrolling platformer) but it's still a side game. I never said otherwise. Hell, I don't think I've ever said anything about Epic Mickey 3DS on a forum up to this point. What the hell?

Unfortunately with the way sales and general public interest in the system are going I don't see the Vita doing much of a recovery this holiday season. A shame really since it's a great piece of hardware with great games.

Oh well if a website says it's a system seller then it must be true.

I have no doubt that it's good. I doubt the masses will give a shit.

The point is that there are finally decent games coming for the Vita.

It might be too little, too late.

And it'll be mildly embarrassing to Sony if it's third party titles that end up driving the sales of the console, but then again, Sony opted for the pack-in bundle with Liberation.

Perhaps it realized it didn't have a sales driver of its own so it gave up and went looking for help?

does anyone here deny that that game is a spinoff though? do people even talk about that game at all?

No, as long noone is talking about Epic Mickey as a title that holds 3DS's success in its hands this Christmas.

I'm not trying to. I was giving an example of the type of game Liberation is. It's a common practice.

EM: PoI might well flop, but (a) it's much more distinct, in terms of visuals and gameplay, from its console counterpart than Liberation, and (b) it's aimed at a demographic that demonstrably exists in sizable numbers on dedicated handhelds in the West.

And no one is holding it up as a savior for the 3DS.

Japan doesn't celebrate Christmas?

No, Japan doesn't count I guess.

Ehh, I'd hardly call being out one week right before Christmas is a "holiday in the market".

Didn't hurt the PSP.

AC was handed off to a B team. Mario Brothers on any system Nintendo makes gets an A team.

This thread is the first I've heard of it actually.

NSMB2 was handed off to the Mario School trainees, but the leaders were still good, if a bit stretched having to do NSMB U, too. If there is a B-team Mario game (not named Super Mario Land), it's NSMB 2.

This thread is the first I've heard of it actually.

Spiritual sequel to Genesis Mickey Mouse: World of Illusion from what the developers have said. Kind of a hearkening back to the old school Disney side-scrollers, I think.

I mean, I guess I can see where he's coming from, since I was saying the same thing about the 3DS last year.

But the 3DS was never selling this bad.

Goddamn, the Vita OT.

Some people are just completely incapable of taking any realistic discussion of the sales potential of Vita or Vita Game X as anything other than an attack on their personal taste, no matter how many times that distinction is explained to them.
