this is what the retina macbook looks like, from ifixit:

the heatsink assembly covers two chips, the one on the right being the nvidia gpu

See my edit. ;)

So, wait... we're saying:

Two fans = likely dedicated GPU?

LOVE IT! LET'S KEEP THINKING THAT!

but the leaked pic only shows one chip in the path of the heatpipe. that would mean no dedicated GPU, if accurate.

that's a bummer for a "pro" machine.

Oh :(

$1700 13" laptop with a 30" display resolution... ... ... and it doesn't have a dedicated GPU? Sorry, no thanks, Apple. 13" MacBook Air for me, I guess. Lame.

And that's why I think it will definitely have a dedicated GPU. Apple is the last company that is going to put a laggy/underperforming machine in the hands of customers. They wouldn't have made the jump to high resolution without achieving at least the effective performance of the previous model.

So it's looking more and more like the 3rd gen iPad will get a silent update with the lightning connector. Three size configurations for iPad mini then will likely be 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB.

Retina Mabooks, new iMacs...Apple just now getting all the 5th gen iPod touches out...

dang, busy time for those guys.

Well, color me surprised. I thought updating the OG iPad at the same time would be a bad business decision. Hype goes slightly up now tho.

I can't see apple changing the CPU and GPS stuff in an iPad 3 until next march, way too early to release a new double powered iPad, this device is still rather new!

the 13 inch retina calls to me.

Price isn't that surprising if it starts with 8GB/256 flash storage. A similarly equipped Air is around the same price, without HDMI/extra thunderbolt
and Retina Display

Are you still thinking of getting the iPad mini, or are you probably going to wait for the next iPad? Also, off-topic, I sent you a carc invite awhile back.

I haven't had a iOS device for a few weeks so I've been unable to get back to Carc. At this point it's coming down to either a 16/32GB iPad mini or a 64GB iPod touch. I'm leaning towards the touch now. Anyways, in a week or so I'll be able to get back on Carc!

More supposed iPad mini leaks;

Looks like a fake to me. The sim port isn't flush, and there's no pin hole on it. The speaker grill area has an odd outline lip. The Apple logo isn't as flush as it usually is (there's a gap between it and the aluminum material). And the lock switch has a black base, indicating a plastic piece, as opposed to Apple's switch having a metal base.

Also, maybe it's the perspective, but i'm pretty sure the 'iPad' typeface is wrong. Since the source is foreign i'm not sure if they're claiming it's the real deal or just a physical construction, though.

I could see them do it if they wish this time to be the new launch platform for both iPads. Refresh and then just use this time each year instead of early, would benefit them for christmas shopping.

That would mean every iOS device refreshes in the fall, though. If iPad still refreshes in the Spring, you get a big release every 6 months.

It would be a boring Spring without something new.

Unless they are going to have something new to fill that space

Does the 8gb Nexus 7 have any resale value? I'm thinking I should unload it now before the new prices/models.

People seem obsessed with the idea of an iPad getting an update in the Fall every year. These same rumors floated around when iPad 1 was released in Spring and when iPad 2 was released in spring.

Maybe this year the rumors will be right? Who knows but so far they have been wrong 2 out of 2 years.

iPad Mini Price Prediction:

16GB: 349.00
16GB + LTE: 479.00
32GB: 449.00
32GB + LTE: 579.00

Hoping for a $199 iPad is pretty wishful thinking. Apple has never put out a product that was competitively priced, and they make it hard to choose between models.

The other day I had to update my brother's iPod touch (8GB) to iOS 6. And guess what, I needed 2.4GB of free space to download and install the update, so basically it could only have 4GB of stuff in it.

Herp derp. The 2.4GB free space is to store the update file. While it's true that iOS6 is larger than iOS5, it's not 2.4GB larger. After the update, that space is freed up and you can use it again.

It's worth it to only have to maintain and carry one device.

I'd argue it's not. Especially for women with a purse or guys that dont wear skinny jeans. My cell service is 90 dollars a year, no contract. I'll gladly pay that over 2400+ every two years on a contract. It's an easy decision for me since talking on the phone is one of the least important aspects of a smartphone to me. Mainly because voice clarity is still so awful. Convenience can be a good thing, but not when it carries an extra 2000+ dollar commitment. Personal opinion.
