Star Wars: TOR Free 2 Play - Will you play it?

How much of the story references the Kotor games? If its very little, then I'll try it out again. I just want to play a Star Wars MMO and run around on Tatooine or Coruscant. I missed out on Galaxies.

I'm actually interested since I played the trial. I was almost about to buy a month of playtime when they suddenly announced that it goes 100% free to play. lol

Edit: okay, just watched the video. Seems like they are restricting more stuff than in the trial, but it should be ok.

Only 3 flashpoints per week is kind of ridiculous though.

Not very much. Only on Taris there are a lot of references to what happened there in Kotor 1, and there are some flashpoints with information about the further story of the main characters of Kotor 1 and 2.

Yep. The first 15 levels of Imperial Agent were interesting enough to go back to if I don't have to pay a monthly fee. I'll probably quit once I finish the story, though.

I'll be playing it. I enjoyed 1-50 but the endgame was lacking. The game certainly isn't for everyone but it's a farcry from being the "pile of shit" that this forum likes to make it out to be.

The only thing that kinda grinds my gears about this F2P transition is the fact that I have to resub to get my Cartel Coins before it goes live. I really really hope they backtrack on that.

I'll play it, but not as an MMO. Have zero interest in the multiplayer aspects of the game, as all I really wanted was a KOTOR3 single player game. None of this MMO bullshit.

Lucky for me, that's about the only part of the game you get for free in full. I just hope the story delivers and progression isn't too grindy.

I actually really liked it and am still paying for it but when MoP came out that took my attention away from it. I'll go back to it soon enough...

I tried to play it as a sp game but there's just too much filler for that. What they said about it being kotors 3-7 or whatever is probably true in terms of overall story content, but its cut with all the usual mmo bullshit timewasters. Really wish I would have gone with my gut and not bought it.

one more thing, I dont think i could ever play a massively huge world/mmo game that doesnt have waypoinys ala GW2. It is SOOOO damn convenient and traveling around on your freakin mount for 20 minutes just to get to the place where you want to go is NOT fun. Thats not exploration, thats just artificially extending the game

Is there a list of important improvements since launch (such as lowered xp required per level)? I really would like to do as little side missions as possible.

Was a mistake to pay for it but i guess it should be playable free. Just don't bother paying for anything.

I think i'll play it with a friend and my brother, most games are fun when played cooperatively even if the game itself isn't so special.

I loved it when it launched, but I have never been into paying monthly fees for a game. I am excited to resume my character when it goes free to play.

It's a free goddamn RPG with quality writing, an awesome universe, and fun dialogue. It's literally the second best MMO...sorry GW2.

Seriously, this is going to be a fucking steal.

Only played a few classes up to the 20s and my highest is in the 50s in GW2, but I couldn't agree more. Not only is the story completely uninteresting, but the voice acting is just awful. Such snooze-worthy stuff.

With that said, I think it's laughable to call TOR the second best MMORPG. It's shit at everything but somewhat interesting cutscenes. Oh, and the sound effects are cool, too, because Star Wars.

It's free! But...

it comes with a free Frogurt?

completely agree. Even an ancient game like LOTRO massacres SWTOR with ease and honestly, I think people citing WoW are being unfair to that game

LOTRO? Please explain how it 'massacres swtor with ease and honesty'. Because imo the only thing that game has going for it is the world but unlike SWTOR, they did not create entire storylines, factions and the like because it takes place in a totally uncovered period in SW lore.

LOTRO has some of the worst animations, UI, weapons/armour aesthetics I've seen in a MMO.

personally, I think LOTRO is beautiful looking; sure, it looks a bit dated now but if you ask me if I prefer spending time in The Shire or strolling around super lifeless Hoth I say the first. Every single location in LOTRO is beautiful. Another terrible mistake was making gigantic environments but with little life in it. There are more dwarves in the 21st Hall than aliens in Voss. Noone ever talks in SWTOR, while you hear constant chatting from NPCS in LOTRO, which helps the immersion a great deal. Levelling is all over the place in SWTOR, because of bonus quests: you quickly overlevel entire planets. When I played it, there was no fast travel. LOTRO has it and it's tons better. Crafting is a complete joke in SWTOR...it's completely nonexistant. LOTRO has one and its very good. The GTN is horrible, filters don't work at all and it needs more kiosks. Coruscant? Give me a break, put one in every goddamned city. Flawless since day one in LOTRO, and you can bid in there. HUGE variety in cosmetic armor, music system, housing, holiday events, end game content...not even comparable to SWTOR. IMO of course

I was interested right until they revealed how much of the content was actually being put behind a paygate.

So, nah.

Everyone's got an opinion, I guess.

TOR has the worst art direction in an MMORPG I've seen since the original EQ2 clay-face models. The whole game just looks bad.

LOTRO is a lot more fun to play, in my opinion. Sure it doesn't have the TOR story stuff going for it, but that's really all TOR has. It doesn't belong in the MMORPG genre.

Yes I agree, LOTRO has some of the best looking areas and the only MMO that beats it is Vanguard - however everything else (as I said) is subpar at best. Combat is boring and stilted. Also as for overleveling, I don't see the big deal.. that is the whole point of the bonus storylines, to gather additional credits/experience and obviously experience more story. Also of course LOTRO is going to have more content/events and the like because the game is 5 years old now.

SWTOR is by no means a perfect game and like every other it has it's fair of pros and cons, most of it's mechanics are/were half-baked because it was evidently rushed out for an Xmas release. Also I'm going to assume your comments are based on playing TOR at launch because the GTN while quite terrible at launch has been improved in terms of functionality and choosing individual item parts. I'm not shitting on LOTRO either, I'm a lifer and definitely got my monies worth from that game but you cna't hold it over SWTOR when that game is bad in many areas.

Of course everyone's got an opinion which is why I asked him to expand upon it. Also those 'not a mmo' comments are laughable at best. Operations? Quests that require groups to complete? Flashpoints?

Was the least amount of enjoyment out of an MMO for me since like..... I don't know. I don't count FFXIV cause that was a straight up debacle.

I have to disagree.
SWTOR has a nice "cartoony" art style that reminds me of the 3D SW TV-series.

Well, I suppose if your bike has training wheels you can call it a trike.
