Pointless to have such a thin desktop, you don't carry it!
Much better to get something like this:

This is very much aimed at the Bang and Olufsen market though. Rich people who live in expensive inner-city minimalistic designer apartments. For them, the new iMac will look glorious on a glass computer table in the corner. For me, it will just make me feel sick with buyer's remorse when I check my bank balance and realise the powerful PC I could have made myself for a tenth of the price.

It has hasn't it?

No, the momentus hybrids had a a cache, like 4GB (new ones 8 or 16 or something).

Apple's fusion drive has a proper 128GB SSD, it seems. Or at least magnitude larger.

Ok, ok jacklegs sorry old people like me don't have time to keep up with the latest tech anymore. :P

Either way cool concept. I need one of these type drives for my work desktops.

I honestly think that DVD drives are like scanners to me now, only pull out the external one for the one time in a blue moon that I need it. Forcing optical drives upon everyone is a waste. External optical drives are hardly a huge hassle

That's how it is for me, too. I do need one, but not frequently. I prefer having it socked away, out of sight.

Yeah, thank god they only sacrificed functionality that people use to make a desktop that isn't mobile thinner and lighter.

Just get an external drive. They're so cheap. It's not like you're going to be moving a desktop around often anyway.

This isn't going to be a dealbreaker for anyone who was genuinely interested in buying an imac.

Same with the Retina Macbook Pro. Buy a slimline DVD drive and get a Macbook Pro sleeve that allows you to carry it with your laptop. Problem solved.

For the people saying the fusion drive is different from the flash cache on hybrid drives: Using a large SSD to optimise HDD space - in exactly the same way that Apple are doing it - has already been done.

To their credit at least Apple aren't saying they invented the concept.

Until they start suing hardware drive manufacturers for doing it ;)

You know for everything it seems to be conquering...100 million seems a bit low when their adding all 3 models. Just saying.

Oh has he stopped wanking, great.
