Apple's October 23 Event | We've got a little more to show you.

iPad 3 was my first purchase in the tablet scene... and even though I'm a bit disappointed by the quick refresh, I wouldn't want to buy the iPad 4 mostly due to the fact that it does have the lighting connector. I'm on the "S" cycle for iPhone's, so I wouldn't be upgrading my 4S phone until the 5S hits next year. Meaning it would be a pain to maintain two chargers (not buying a stupid dongle) anyway. Only part I'm pissed about was that I was going to upgrade in March to the next iPad because I desperately need more space, but looks like I'll just have to fight through it until next year, as it's likely the spring refreshes for iPad are all but over.

What's the point in making the iMac so thin? I obviously understand doing this for portable devices, but it's useless on a desktop. It only increases the price, nothing else.

Exactly. It's not like you need portability on a desktop machine. You're not moving it. What you need is power.

It looks really nice

That's subjective, to say the least. I'd be worried about breaking the new iMac if I was near it ><;

the screen is a matter of 16:10 vs 4:3 preference and the nexus is quite a bit sharper. 4:3 might be better for portrait browsing but 16:10 is muuuuch better for video.

80 bucks for supposed better build quality and the app store? if you say so.

Except that even letterboxed the image would be bigger on the iPad mini...

Not the point. People will still use it for similar stuff, similar apps, tasks and even carry it around with them for mobile use. The only difference is literally that you will hold one to your ear to make calls.

No, the only difference is that my phone needs to be used with one hand and fit in my pocket. A tablet doesn't.

A nail in the coffin for 7" Android tablets, perhaps

Also, remember that Win8 tablets are coming out soon

The 7" Androids are going to continue to undercut them in price, which is why the 7" market exists in the first place.

I could see some reasoning behind getting out in front of the Win 8 stuff though. Good point.

The 4th Gen is available starting next Friday. Apple keeps 4 days of inventory in the channel, most of the 3rd gens will be off the shelves by then.

Ahh, I must have missed that when I got off of that horrible ass Cnet feed.

In that case, they'll be fine.

I have an iPad 3 and I really don't see why people are angry at the updated iPad. They bumped up the specs a bit and switched to a lightning cable, this isn't exactly resolutionary.

primary purpose of a small tablet is an e-reader type device

this is not the primary purpose of a phone.

So they are basically admitting that the New iPad was a turd?

No, it's more likely they are just going to update a bit more frequently. People bitch that the Mac only gets updated once a year, and then bitch when the iPad starts getting updated faster.

They probably dropped the numbers so they could quickly change a few parts in the iPad as the technology updates, and not have to worry about updating every part once a year. It's a good compromise since certain technologies iterate faster than others.

Apple's whole selling point for this device was one handed use. That's the main reason for it versus the larger iPad. Portability and mobile use.

EDIT: I am not saying mobile phones should be 7" or whatever. Personally I think diversity is the spice of life. Some people might prefer having an all in one phone that acts as a tablet, others prefer to carry a separate tablet along with their mobile phone.

yall wanted a mini, well you got it.
at $329. lmfao

10" is still the best form factor for a tablet imho.

What's the point in making tvs thinner? I loved the way our tube set was three feet deep, really filled out the corner of the living room.

Apple released an inferior product and they know it if they're already revamping it 6 months down the road. What don't you get about that?
An inferior product to a product from the future? WTF

No. I think it was to add the lightning connector -- but they couldn't just do that and not update it, too.

I agree with this. Looks like they wanted to move everything over to the lightning connector ASAP. 6 months product cycle is unusual for Apple.

Don't understand why everyone is freaking out. I love my third-generation iPad (much more than my first gen). Runs like a champ and the retina display is what makes the device for me.

The iMac is more a piece of furniture. If you needed power you'd not get an all in with mobile graphics one in the first place.
