Katie was turning into a pretty good character, wish Carter had gotten voted out instead. Kind of thought he was going to quit with the way his edit suddenly picked up.

It was long ago enough that I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Penner was great at getting fish in Cook Islands, that plus considering how his personality is make that deal he made not too surprising. Having Skupin fondling him the whole challenge and having the time of his life doing so probably didnt help.

Skupin's edit is brutal. Wonder who he pissed off in production.

would have loved to seen a healthy jeff kent in that challenge, he still did great with a busted knee. i have a feeling skupin penner will be around for a while. we keep get editing like teams are gonna turn on them soon, but i see them definitely making the merge. artis is a whiny bitch, it was a good trade imo. and the edit seemed the lack of rice helped carter and red team lose. i can't help but pull for rc and skupin, the other alliance is dumb. i have a feeling malcom and maybe denise might make it far as well.

None of the returnees have gotten a particularly spectacular edit this time. Rob, Ozzy, and Coach all got fairly glowing edits. This time around Russell got nailed hard, Skupin's not getting any airtime and everybody talks about him negatively, and Penner's entire tribe was talking about wanting him out for a good chunk of the game and he's been edited as fairly cocky.

I'm really surprised.

Amazing that Denise survives another vote.
Not only that but she's a perfect 6-0 in casting eviction votes (although the fact they've all been unanimous votes this season kind of makes that a foregone conclusion).

Remember what I said last week...

For some reason, I really dig the idea of Calabaw going on a perpetual losing streak and Denise slipping through unscathed while participating in (and as of right now) casting votes for the person who gets their torch snuffed while attending each and every tribal council for the ENTIRE GAME. To borrow a word from next week's Survivor preview, that would indeed be "unprecedented". Nobody in Survivor history has attended every single tribal council in a season (besides Probst) let alone cast a majority vote in each one. That would build up quite a resume for Denise heading into a final tribal jury vote.
If the merge happens in the next episode as teased in the preview, Denise will have the "every tribal council" streak in her pocket as long as she remains in the game. A perfect eviction vote record is still pretty unlikely but with Tandang so consumed with the idea of cutting RC & Skupin, Malcolm in her back pocket and potentially intelligence on the whereabouts of all 3 immunity idols if that plays out, she's got openings to exploit.

Tandang has been immune for like 18 days already lol
Prob immune til merge which is insane.
I believe that's a Survivor first as well.
Not to mention I find it hilarious how Jeff keeps poking fun at Abi-Maria's lack of challenge participation (she bailed on another 2 tonight).

Jeff Kent is probably the best somebody to ever play this game, hopefully he makes it far.

I wonder what Carter did in the casting interviews to get on the show, his confessionals are incredibly dull and he does very little on the show. I don't even think it's a case of having too many characters so he's left in the shadow, he just has nothing to offer.

did she actually qualify as a "somebody" though? jeff kent is arguably the greatest 2nd baseman of all-time (definitely best power hitting 2b).

Sure; she was in one of the most successful girl groups of the 90s, with a number of hit singles (including one #1 and several top 10s) and a few platinum albums. She wasn't merely the "wife of Eddie George".

Denise reminds me of this girl I dated. Cute, skinny-petite (like, no body fat at all, muscle tone, but not muscled) body, kind of not-so-typical beauty, but still cute in her own little way. Except the girl I dated was 24. I still miss that girl sometimes. Bah. :|

Pretty surprised that they let the challenge fail. They rehearse those challenges meticulously beforehand, so I guess the producers really underestimated how drained the Survivors were. The mud seemed like an unnecessary addition to an already brutal challenge, too. I know it looks good on TV, but it makes the challenge exponentially harder.

RC is beyond amazing, too. Perhaps the perfect body. I'm in love. Can't wait to see Abi get her comeuppance.

This season will lose so much once we lose someone like Penner, or Jeff, or even Skupin and RC. Great cast this year.

Fantastic season so far too.

Yeah, this season is great. None of those super annoying characters like Cochran and Brandon, actual challenges, "shifting" alliances, I love it. If the merge happens soon I really hope new alliances form and it isn't just one tribe picking at the other.

Now they just need to get rid of the hashtags and it will be golden.

Artis, Abi and Pete aren't as annoying as those two, but I could see one of them getting there eventually. Has Artis had a confessional yet where he wasn't whining about something?

That aside, this season could end up being really amazing, especially if the red tribe can somehow avoid being Pagonged. Having three hidden immunity idols in play has potential, but only if Denise can flip Malcolm, and then in RC & Skupin go along with it. That's a lot to hope for, but I could see Skupin and Penner aligning post-merge, and it's not like RC has any real allies at the moment.

RC looks so good.

I really like Kent. He's a great player to watch since he's really into the game, gives good narrations, and plays strategy. It's a shame he injured himself so early.

So was Lisa really getting rejected by the kid in the next episode? What would lead her to hit on him? Desperation?

NEXT SEASON CAST SPOILER:

The next Survivor is Fans vs. Favs and has already been filmed.
Corrine, Brenda, and Cochran are 3 of the faves.

For the spoiler weary, I can confirm this doesn't spoil THIS season at all:

I hope
those are three of the less popular faves, because they're relatively meh

Next season cast spoilers:

Returnees are Malcolm, Erik R, Cochran, Brandon, Phillip, Francesca (no really), Brenda, Dawn, Andrea, and Corinne

YES! I actually REALLY REALLY love this cast of returning favorites because they have NOT been on the show a 100 million times already. No Russell, no Parvati, no Rupert, no J.T. Thank god! Some of the characters may have been whored out in their respective seasons, but I still think it's a nice cast. Nice balance of lowkey players that had a respectable game vs. the obvious shit starter players returning for viewers (Phillip, Cochran, Brandon). The female choices aside from Francesca particularly seem pretty good in comparison to any other returning season I remember. I love Brenda, already my choice for the person I hope to win.

Special agent Phil? This season is a winner by default. The fact that most returnees are scrubs is great from a competition perspective. I'd hate for the fans to get steamrolled.

Brandon? Fucking shit. Get the Hantz' off tv.

Why'd Katie have to go!?!

So glad a merge is coming. I'd really like to see them try a single tribe season. Two people can win immunity each comp and everyone goes to tribal. Would be confusing at first with so many people but I can't help but think it would make tribals and alliance's really interesting. If they've done this before I'm unaware, I stopped watching for a few years.

This would be crazy haha. The first tribal would have at least 18 votes being cast... just imagining Jeff reading all of them.

I know right?! :( Not surprised about this choice at all, but I'm surprised they didn't cast both the Hantz for the same season. Don't expect him to last as long this time thankfully, especially now that people for sure what a loose cannon he is. Also more Corinne is a good thing. I remember her complaining they made her seem like a nice person in her edit.

Yeah, they really screwed that one up. I've played push ball before, but it was with an inflatable ball that didn't have anything to hold on to. Make it out of wicker and a guy can just hang on and lie there with his full body weight. The ball isn't going anywhere. Add mud for poor traction and drained players and this challenge was impossible. I wonder if it was the intention of production to purposely create an impossible challenge.

Yeah, but think of the panic and drama that would go on when they get back to camp. :lol

It would seriously make alliances hilarious and almost everyone would be on their toes the entire time not trusting anyone. It would be near impossible to have a majority ruling alliance and it would creat interesting twists. At least I would think. It would almost have to be better than how three tribes worked out.

It'd be odd for production wanting an impossible challenge, but I couldn't help but think of it when I heard they needed 3 damn points to win. That just seems insane. Even in testing with well fed people I can't see how that challenge was winnable.

Yeah, it seemed to lack a lot of logic. They've done this challenge before, albeit with two balls, in the China season. The fact there were two balls meant players were running between the balls, etc, so there was alot more action and it was easier to move them because at one time there was no more than two or three people hanging off it.

And I doubt it was intentional. The production purposely did away with challenges that took more than an hour or so, primarily because of the logistics required in running and filming the challenges. With so much crew required in the one place, then the need to change tape constantly, and the effect long challenges had on shooting schedules and the Survivor's welfare, it ultimately caused the end of those endurance challenges. (Which is a shame, quite frankly. Anyone remember the 13 hour challenge in Australia?!)

I listened to a recap of the latest episode with Brian Corridon and he was saying that sometimes it feels like the production hasn't thought alot of the challenges through, so hmmm?

You do know they don't use tape/film any longer? It's all digital now. The only problem with a long challenge is keeping the crew hydrated/safe.

I think they just didn't expect for there to be so much mud.

In the middle of a rice paddy? Really? I think they knew, as they used the same muddy paddy for the challenge the next episode.

This is what Jeff had to to say in an EW.com interview

EW: So, a very unique situation as Skupin offered to lose the challenge (and the food that went with it) in exchange for Penner’s rice. Kalabaw accepted and you officially gave your blessing to the deal. Two part question: What goes into your decision-making process in terms of whether to allow a deal like that or not? And which tribe do you think got the better end of the food swap?
PROBST: I LOVE deal making. Once I hear a deal being made I stop talking and get out of the way. Then I usually recap the proposed deal for the audience and ask those involved if they’re going to move forward with it or not. Even if the deal gets nixed, the fact that somebody suggested it almost always results in conflict back at camp. Generally speaking, I’m good with most deals so long as everybody on the tribe agrees. In this case, the deal actually saved us because that challenge was going to take a long, long, long time to finish due to the amount of mud. I was concerned nobody would ever score and we’d have to result to a tie breaker. As to who got the better deal, I’m still undecided! I see both sides. It’s so easy to backseat drive. I think Skupin had a good idea in trying to wipe them out long term by taking all their rice. The risk is they are too strong for the immunity challenge and they steal momentum and you never get it back. From Penner’s side, I think his idea also made sense, especially given how little rice they actually had left in their container. I leave this one to the audience.

I know very few people that ever found 'endurance' challenges very fun to watch. I wouldn't be surprised if feedback indicated that was common, let's face it challenges need action and drama. It's all going to be distilled down in to a 10-15 minute segment anyway, so why make it 'easy' but take forever, vs making it difficult and take just a couple hours max?

Oh no I'm not disagreeing with you, it would be funny for sure. I definitely think this should happen for one season, a majority alliance would be pretty much impossible as you say hah. Tribal would be unpredictable each time pretty much.
