My ND sense is tingling...

I just want to point out that most of our starters are not from the north. Recruiting hasn't been a problem for a while. Player development and bad coaching were the problems. The argument was always that ND couldn't recruit defensive talent. I think Brian Kelly has shown that isn't the case.

Either I made up lies about the Boston Bomber or I fell for someone else's crap. Either way, I have absolutely no credibility and you should never pay any attention to anything I say, no matter what the context. Perm me if I claim to be an insider

Just saw a video from Jax. Looks like hurricane force winds almost going on there. The game tomorrow should be interesting.

Just watching the Cindy Louisville game now, see they are playing for the "keg of nails" haha.

Whatever happened to Americans playing for some standard silverware or a medal? Got to love the traditional rival games but some of the prizes, like the stanford axe last week, seem a bit weird. Not sure if you can take them seriously.

I love watching the old guy on espn college football live show get all excited when talking about nd. He gets really excited and I'm sure the other guy deliberate picks against them just to upset the old guy.

Just about all of the college rivalry trophies are based on something symbolic or shared between the two schools. Some have been around decades, some are newer, but there is nothing ever standardized about them from one rivalry to the next.

Most if not all of the more bizarre rivalry game trophies date back to the first half of the 20th century or before, and thus survive purely on quaintness.

Might've been a blessing in disguise.

People have questioned the D and I think they did a damn great job of making a statement there.

And we have Teddy Icewater, we've endured a couple of bad starts but can turn it up with a TD.

Hey man, I don't know if you've noticed but the G in your avatar is out of proportion. So I got a high res version online and resized it. You can feel free to use it if you want. Link coming soon.

But Chicko, I will take pity on you, because the history of the Axe is fucking awesome.

It first showed up in San Francisco in the late 1800s, at a Cal-Stanford baseball game, where the Stanford yell leaders used it to chop up blue and gold ribbons, accompanied by a chant. "Give em the axe, the axe, the axe" etc.

At the end of the game--which Cal won, naturally--a group of Cal students ambushed the Stanford yell leaders and captured the Axe in a massive melee. There ensued a chase/relay race through the streets of San Francisco, with the Cal students aiming to get the Axe back to Berkeley, and the Stanford students, backed by the SF police, aiming to stop them.

Finally, a little ahead of the pursuers, the last guy to have the Axe stopped in a butcher shop to get the handle sawn off, and hid it under his overcoat. He headed for the ferry building to catch the ferry back across the bay to Berkeley, but found the building surrounded by the police, who were searching everyone who boarded. So he hunted up an old girlfriend, had her hide the Axe under her dress, and together they brought it back to Berkeley.

There was an interlude of several decades in which the Axe belonged to Cal, and was brought out for the rally before each Big Game. Until a group of dastardly Stanford students stole it from an armored car, in a plot involving fake cameras, tear gas, and shenanigans with the operator of the Dumbarton Bridge.

Yeah.

A little after that, it became the official trophy of the Big Game.
