Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox story.


Most of you guys have probably already watched this but I only just saw it last night, I thought it was a great movie, and you can play spot the comedian too, so many comedic actors in tiny roles to spot.

Yep this is what I did the first few times my disk didn't show up. After that I called and they suggested I contact my local US Post Office to complain. They were really sympathetic though...and had no hesitations sending out another disc. Their CSRs are really enthusiastic on the phone LOL

Watched Ondine, dir. Neil Jordan (Mona Lisa, The Crying Game, Michael Collins), and was pretty impressed. Not as good as the other films I mentioned, which are on Netflix too, but its wonderfully shot and some pretty good acting from Colin Farrell and an excellent performance from a child actor.

I got excited when I just downloaded the new Xbox dashboard update and it said it was updating Netflix as well. I was hoping they made it decent again, but nope. Same old crap interface.

Usually if you report missing disks to Netflix they will usually re-send you the missing disk and also start sending you other disks in your queue as a courtesy. I'm guessing this is what is happening in your case? Their customer support is really good. Maybe you should just call them again?

Turns out it was just late. Dont know why Netflix sent 3 dvds on top of that 1 though on my 3 dvd plan.

Apartment 143 is decent if you're looking for an above average supernatural horror movie.

The Graves...sucks.

Also if anyone missed it, but the entire Pink Panther series (except the 1st movie strangely) has been put up recently.
I recommend the 2nd, 3rd & 4th movies. Comedy classics.

But stay the fuck away from the 5th (Revenge of the Pink Panther), 6th (Trail of the Pink Panther), 7th (Curse of the Pink Panther) & 8th (Son of the Pink Panther) movies.

The 5th movie was the last with Peter Sellers in the role fully throughout the movie (He died during the 6th movie).

oh man, a year apo I was watching all the netflix peter sellers stuff, glad to see more!
 
Watched The Artist. Fantastic movie. I was hesitant to even try it because of it being a silent movie but was blown away how much that didn't matter. There wasn't even that much text to read. It's almost all expressions and music that make up the story and in a way it makes you feel the emotions more. The acting by Jean Dejardin and Berenice Bejo was fantastic by the way. Can't recommend The Artist enough. Definitely check it out. And fellas - perfect date movie to watch with your wife/gf.
 
Ok I watched a bunch of stuff... mostly awful horror but since this is a "recommendations" thread that list is pretty short.

I don't "rate" movies... but I can probably try putting a recommendation percentage on them.

The Burrowers
  • this is not a good movie by any stretch of the imagination. But I consider it very watchable. And I even kind of enjoyed it for what it was. Some pretty bad cg at the end, but overall kinda fun movie. Scratches the monster movie itch a little bit.
  • 65% viewing recommendation; 75% if you're in the mood for something monstery.

Red Riding (three part series)
  • Very good cast, good series. Has some weak points (mostly plot wtf's regarding character motivations, and in the third act they have a medium play a small but vital role in a manner that's completely inexplicable) but this shit was pretty intersting, and the way the plot builds and comes to light over the course of the series was well done imo.
  • 90% watch recommendation.

Human Centipede 2
  • Never saw the first, but there isn't a redeeming quality about this movie. It's not even funny. Just stupid and "try hard".
  • 0% view recommendation -- more of a warning to not waste your time.

For another silent-esque movie, I highly suggest everyone check out The Illusionist.

Finally watched this the other day and thought it was fantastic, very emotional at times and it's wonderful how much you start to care for these characters with pretty much little to no spoken dialogue. It's an animated tour-de-force and is absolutely beautiful in HD.

Also a really amazing recreation of my hometown, edinburgh. Really captures the feel of the place as I remember it as a child in the 70s. I realize it's set forty or fifty years before that, but it is really magical in that regard.

I think it was pretty neutral and let us have an honest look at the devs. Blow was the same as I've seen him in other videos and interviews. Fish came off as likable, even while wanting to "murder" his ex-partner, and I empathized with him. Only Tommy came off "badly" as somewhat crazy/isolated, accentuated by Edward's childhood/Marriage angles making him endearing. Even then, we understood how Tommy could be driven to madness by his crunch period and apparent ball-dropping by MS at launch, so there were reasons.

Hmmm. Interesting. Would the Netflix CEO necessarily have to resign from the MS board of directors if Microsoft were going to acquire Netflix? Obviously, I don't know squat about running a publicly-held company. I guess investors wouldn't be too happy if the majority of board members were under the direct control of the company itself. It would seem to defeat the purpose of having a board of directors.

This is veering way off topic. Has someone created a thread about this? I searched but didn't find one.
 
No no no please don't. Microsoft is where things go to die...a long, slow, painful death. They have absolutely no vision and it will basically kill innovation in other platforms and ideas that aren't Microsoft/Windows.
 
MS may have the money to kill the no new movie problem Netflix is having. They also seem good at creating partnerships when they put their mind to it. Really its a perfect fit for them imo. I think Netflix would be a good buy.
 
So if I have a US Netflix account and I use unblock-us and change it to, say, Canada, are you saying that I can access the Canadian selection without having to create another (Canadian) account?

If you haven't, watch the OSS 117 movies on Netflix. Will give you a deeper appreciation for Dejardin. (Bejo is in Cairo, Nest of Spies)
 
Watched Boy Wonder. It was okay, not what I was expecting. Was expecting a superhero vigilante type story. The vigilante is there, but it's more so about a fucked up kid that goes around killing bad guys.

Or, the English title is I Do.

It's a really smart romantic comedy. Very enjoyable and definitely worth some couch time.
 
My search for a scary Halloween movie:

Somewhere in this mess there could have been a compelling sequel but this isn't it. Wasn't even as scary as the first. It does have Jeffrey Donovan from Burn Notice which is partly why I gave it a chance.

It's probably been 10 years since I last saw Candyman. Still a very effective movie with great start and ending but a weird middle section that drags a bit. At times it's really scary, but more often it's sort of a thoughtful movie. The projects are the perfect setting for a horror movie.
