I don't get why you guys care so much about the Verge? Who cares if they give it a 1. Buy what you want to buy. MS needs to reach the market and make a splash, the Verge wont change that. I could ask every single person in my social circle right now and not a single one knows what the Verge is, but they all own phones.

Posted in the other thread, but Rogers is supposed to have the 920 in select stores tomorrow. for $100 on 3 years or $550 outright. Crazy good price.

I wonder if the Phones 4U Lumia 920 will be offered on various networks (apparently they'll be offering all 4 colour options, yellow red black and white), or whether it'll only be offered on EE.

Details please! Releases on November 2nd according to reports.

No one in your social circle knows what GAF is either, unless you've told them, and GAF certainly isn't going to make the difference between a smash success and a flop, but I don't plan on locking this thread, because the point of a discussion forum is to discuss.

Anandtech has a WP8 and Windows 8X article up. Calls it a preview because he only had a couple days with it.

My time with HTC's 8X has been extremely positive - I think they nailed the industrial design, in hand feel, and the right balance of features for a Windows Phone 8. The OS feels smoother than it ever has everywhere I look and in every app I've tried out.

Probably isn't. If there's no SIM free option my next phone will either be the Nexus 4 or HTC 8X by the looks of it, but both are 16GB :(

Yep. If theres no sim free option, i will be looking elsewhere.
Utterly baffling choice by Nokia.

I'm going to assume this is a typo, even though it really and truly upsets me whenever it happens.

The weight complaint was more about how the weight is distributed on a 16:9 device. I believe it's 1.5 lbs compared to 1.44 lbs on the iPad 3, so it's marginally heavier.

I'm sorry looking at the review he states that the surface feels thicker than the ipad yet its not , its actually thinner .

You know why the iPhone 5 gets a full podcast at launch? Because it's the iPhone. No other single device is going to get that sort of coverage. There's a demand for that level of coverage, and it's silly to hold it against every publication for going full iPhone on Apple Press Conference days.

You gloss over my point because you know its true. the crux of the matter isn't that the iphone gets its own podcast. I think that's fine , infact I rather it get its own podcast so that I know not to download it and waste my time. I do however get upset and surely can see the bias or prejudice if you want against Microsoft when I then download the one not labeled iphone 5 podcast and am treated to 90% of the podcast being about iphone 5. Esp when new products are announced and shown and get no time.

Now by "bias" you mean "prejudice." Whatever prejudice you perceive is just not there. They held Android to the same level of criticism regarding the app ecosystem until the platform really and truly caught up in early 2011. It's going to look worse for Windows because there are now two platforms with robust application ecosystems in the marketplace.
I don't really care about eco system. They have a valid point there. THe problem comes in other area's like the windows 8 review. Its badly written and shows the prejudice of the site

The Lumia 900's review was perfectly fair, and it seems doubly justified with Microsoft's decision to cut off support for legacy devices at the knees with WP8.
I never bothered with the lumia 900 review . I try my best to avoid the verge now and will continue to do so in the future until they get better. If they want to be a fan site that is fine but they should lable themselves that.

Everyone fixates so damn much on the "negatives," seeking any perceived slight on a platform as some sort of personal condemnation. There are plenty of positives in that WP8 review. They call it the best home screen mobile experience out there, for crying out loud. What do you want?

the problem with Joshua's reviews and most of the verge is that they use one or two slight negatives as a way to trash the whole product . For the windows 8 review they knock it for having a lack of windows 8 style apps. Sadly they forget that its friggen windows and has more apps than android and ios combined. When the new ipad came out they never knocked it for having a lack of new retina level apps.

Then they dinged it for not having true windowing on windows 8 style apps.... WTF I never once read this complained on ios or android reviews for not having windows for applications. At least windows now supports locking apps and traditional full screen desktop programs.

A shitty Gmail experience affects about 99% of us nerds that post on GAF. Hell, the Gmail experience on iOS is mediocre at best.

Because its a google experience. My experience with Hotmail/outlook on the surface is much more positive than my experience with gmail on android . IF gmail is important to you then you should go with the company that makes gmail. I'm more dynamic and can switch between gmail and outlook as I please. I'm not married to either.

To defend the verge after actually reading their reviews and to try and say there is no bias is very strange. Perhaps the bias just suits your views better and so its harder to see it.

IMO, that's the right way to handle this.

Also, reading those reviews reassures me that WP is still the right OS for me, even if I have like zero ecosystem lock in. But it will be even more of an uphill battle for MS than before. Poor Nokia :-(

You think it's "trashing" when it's a completely valid criticism that doesn't even come close to invalidating the product.

Frankly, they'd be better off without scores at all and letting the reviews stand on their own merit. People lose their minds if they see anything less than an "8" on their product du jour.

Oh ho ho, so I'm the fanboy?

The Verge said:
Nokia may have been first to use single-piece polycarbonate cases, but its Lumia 900 immediately feels dated when held alongside HTC's latest.

Man, that's what I had feared. Makes the choice much harder!

I'm still puzzled...

1) Where can I purchase an unlocked Lumia 920 CYAN?
2) When Can I purchase #1
3) How sure am I it will work under ROGERS (since these fucktards only offer it in black)

These questions are fatiguing me...

I'm still hoping it's not true...hopeless optimism?

If it's true, it's a seriously questionable decision.

Nokia: GUYS! We made this great phone, with awesome screen and godlike camera!! It's awesome and cost us a lot! So we're going to make it exclusive to the shittest network in the UK!! For 6 months...maybe...we make this up as we go along! Don't worry guys, HTC has made an equally awesome phone! It's available pretty much everywhere!!! YEAH!

..The fuck were/are they smoking???

Almost every Verge review of MS related products in the past year or so has been a) more superficial than on similar sites and b) contained a rating that was below what most other sites gave. It's been pretty consistent in that regard.

Now, I still like and read The Verge every day, but you'll have a hard time convincing me that they are very objective when it comes to this.

Maybe The Verge isn't biased against WP, but they sure do love to troll it. I forget if it was a podcast or an actual preview vid, but when previewing one of HTC's phones, they spent a few mins, max, talking about the phone, and then say how they wish it was running Android instead.

The Verge equivalent of "wish it were on 360/PS3/PC/etc."

This event single handedly will move the Fiancè back to Android.

She's on TMobile. Theres absolutely no chance in hell she'll get a Blue phone. She was all set on the Ativ S. Since that phone has disappeared in America that leaves her with no choice but to go Android.

No AT&T release date pisses me off to no end.

Do you have a link to their 920 tariffs? I can't find these details. (Not that I'd leave O2, but I'd still like to give their tariffs a butchers).

Just this from their main page
