Wii U in 2013: What is there to look forward to?

So I know a lot are pretty hyped up for the launch of Nintendo's new system. For the ones getting one, you may already have your games lined up. The holidays will end soon and with it we have to look ahead to 2013.

Other than your expected Pikmin 3, what else is there to look forward to in 2013, especially Wii U exclusives not on PS3 and XBox 360?

Nintendo's crazy launch window ends in 2013, so with that said I'm hyped for Aliens, Wonderul 101, Lego City, Pikmin 3 , other Nintendo games, Monster Hunter, and Rayman.

Rayman Legends (January)
Aban Hawkins and the 1,001 Spikes (Q1)
Pikmin 3 (Q1)
The Wonderful 101 (Q1)
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (March)
Two Brothers (tba)
Bayonetta 2 (hopefully)
Dragon Quest X Online (hopefully)

Already the best lineup of console exclusives for 2013.

Not if Final Fantasy Vesus XIII and The Last Guardian come out next year.

lol

They'll probably announced HD Zelda at E3 to combat the new consoles.

E3 2013 is probably going to be awesome for Wii U. If you're into that sort of thing, it's something to look forward to IMO.

100% certain for 2013:

Rayman Legends
The Wonderful 101
Pikmin 3
Beyond Good and Evil 2

Those 4 exclusives are already bigger than anything on Vita in the same time frame.

keep drinking the kool aid brah.

That being said, nintendo have already stated on multiple occasions theyre holding ont their cards until the new year to promote sales for this holiday season, a wise choice IMO.

I expect the Mario games to pretty much follow the Wii schedule they had (Super Mario Universe holiday 2013, Mario Kart U spring 2014). Zelda will be holiday 2014 then.

This. Also because I feel next year will be Zelda 3DS' time.

Unless Nintendo gets their shit together I expect Zelda to be stuck in development hell again. Late 2014 earliest, late 2015 my bet.

New Retro game shouldn't be too far away, unless the studio is up shit creek. 3D Mario too, as long as SM3DL didn't cause too much burden.

I could see Retro's game making mid-late 2013 if the studio has been moving along a smooth schedule.

Retro's game was going to debut at E3 until last second, I wouldn't be at all surprised if it was planned for launch window originally and then got pushed back. Summer/Fall 2013 would be great, especially if it's a technical showpiece to help build defenses for the Durango/Orbis debuts.

With Zelda going back to more traditional controls/design I don't expect the sort of delays we saw for SS. The biggest obstacle for Zelda going forward will be asset creation, and for that I expect EAD3 to lean harder on outside groups like Monolith and Grezzo.

I'm not still in the mood for another Super Mario 3D or Mario Kart title.

Super Mario Galaxy 2, Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 are still very fresh on my memory. I would rather have a new Star Fox or a Wave Race game.

Wii U's launch window is impressive as I never wanted so many games that early on for new hardware before. I usually just get two launch games and wait a year later to pick up 1-2 more titles.Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate HD is going to be the perfect game to have while waiting for E3 to come around and the rest of whatever games Wii U has coming out in the second half of the year. Potential software drought be damned.

I don't expect Zelda Wii U until late 2015 at the earliest and Smash Bros as early as holiday 2013, but likely not until first half of 2014 (especially since he's making two versions of the game) along with Mario Kart. Hopefully, Bayonetta 2 will be ready by the end of next year. Hard to say if Retro Studios or Monolith Soft's game are far along in development. They may need another year to develop.

too early to tell. Only first quarter games have been announced, and since Nintendo wants a smooth launch we won't know anything until the U is out and kicking

Platinum will do Star Fox, it's only a matter of time. I'd like to see EAD Tokyo handle Wave Race, but then I'd have also liked to see it at launch. It feels weird having a Nintendo console lanch with no 1st party racing game.

The Wonderful 101, Pikmin 3, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Rayman Legends, Aliens: Colonial Marines is the stuff I'm looking at in the "launch window." I assume stuff that will be released after launch window won't be announced until some time in Q1 of calendar 2013. This combined with buying games I have a passing interest in at launch day that will assuredly be at rock bottom prices next spring, there should be plenty to play.

Didn't Nintendo say they have more launch window games to announce?

Though I'm guessing those would be multiplats and not exclusive titles.

3rd party games yes, but probably not 1st party. 1st party is already packed for Q1 (Game & Wario, W101, Pikmin 3, Wii Fit U) so much so that I'm expecting 1 or 2 of those to slip to Q2.

If Nintendo themselves do announce something else, it'll likely be a Japan only release (like Karaoke Joysound just was) or maybe a 3rd party game they pick up for a publishing deal (DOA5U?).

Hmmm... Over 100 posts in, and no mention of the treasure chest that is the eShop (Little Inferno, Two Brothers, Trine 2: Director's Cut, Nano Assault Neo, Toki Tori 2, etc.). Oh, because they aren't about 'More power and photorealism'. Never mind. As You Were... **Sigh and Roll Eyes...**

Pikmin 3 of course, Bayonetta 2 I am very excited for and I would love to be surprised by a Smash launch in 2013.

Do we think HD collections will surface to pad the line-up? Im hopeful of a zelda one-wind waker specifically. Maybe not this year

Pikmin 3
The Wonderful 101
Monster Hunter Tri Ultimate

Probably forgetting like 2-3 more. Babeh that's all I need.

Most of those are 2012, and I already mentioned two that aren't (1001 Spikes, Two Brothers). :)

The Cave is another promising looking eShop release ib 2013, but it's not console exclusive.

What am I looking forward to?

Nintendo Directs. I have no idea what games are coming...but the Directs are a sure thing, and will bring MEGATONS.

Nintendo said that it intentionally delayed some of its games to be put into launch window due to th volume of third-party support. It also said last year that it was planning out what games will be available for holiday 2013. Nintendo's historically offered 2 big games.

2007 Mario Galaxy, Fire Emblem, Zelda (crossbow training)
2008 Animal Crossing & Wii Music
2009 Wii Fit plus & New SMB Wii
2010 Donkey Kong Country & Kirby
2011 - Zelda & Kirby

Super Mario Galaxy 2, Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 are still very fresh on my memory. I would rather have a new Star Fox or a Wave Race game.

For one I would rather have a new Wave race, 1080~, FZero or Sin and punishment, but seeing how the Nintendo biggest IPs - Mario, Mario kart, Smash bros, Wii Sorts, Zelda not so much anymore atm - keep selling shedloads, I am dead certain they'll be banking on these ones, that are bound to be million-sellers thanks to their wide mass-market appeal, to drive Wii U hardware sales as much as possible before competitors launch their new consoles.

From an enthusiast gamer's perspective it's not what we would like to see, I know, but I am afraid a Mario kart, a Smash bros or a 3D Mario launching in 2013 is inevitable.

This. I'm going have to really pace myself with so many games. So many games I did not count on wanting to play. Going forward I'm not going to be rushing to get a brand new game day one when there is such a list of games I can buy, that will naturally be lower in price when I get around to getting them. The launch line up alone is going to keep me busy well into 2013 I think. The game would have to be something special like Monster Hunter Tri Ultimate, a big RPG, a Mario or Zelda game to cause it to jump ahead of the list.

So honestly I'm not really paying attention to 2013 at the moment.

Which does bring up an issue though. With so many games what is going to happen if a lot of people pace themselves and brand new games don't sell a LOT right away but sell over time later as people get around to them when they can. How is that going to play out for publishers? Will that hurt support in the future?

Though part of me doesn't want to care about that. It's also something we can't control either I believe. It's my time and money. I'll buy what I want when I want. If they couldn't cause me to not wait for a lower price or make me want to buy it right away then that's on them. If it doesn't get a sequel then oh well.

I just hope publishers are accepting or at least realistic that not all games going forward are going to get the huge sales. I hope they'll be satisfied with modest success and be accepting that there are only going to be a few mega hits, especially when it comes to multiplats.

I agree that Wii Sports U will be one of the biggest games at E3 this year. And I also think you will pretty much see a Wave Race and 1080 game within it. Featuring Miis of course, and probably called Wii Jet Skiing, and Wii Snowboarding, but 6-8 tightly designed courses each with the associated soundtracks and tropes. A much more sophisticated product.

What a waste of 1080 and Waverace.

Well, publishers should know what their getting into when they offer late ports on Wii U. Batman Arkham City is the oldest at 13 months while two others are coming in around 8 months later (Mass Effect & Ninja Gaiden 3). Ubisoft and Namco Bandai will probably do the best with Assassin's Creed 3 and Tekken Tag Team Tournamnent 2. I wouldn't be surprised if ZombiU sells over a million copies since it's the most anticipated original Wii U third-party launch game this year. It will be interesting to see how well Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate HD does in Japan especially since it's a bundled SKU. We know the 3DS version in Japan sold over 1.6 million copies with a million sold in its first month of release and 600k+ more copies sold 4 months later.

Hopefully they'll have a blow out in December. I'm hoping we get a new Eternal Darkness in 2013 though....

The sad thing is that game is perfect for Wii U's GamePad and Silicon Knights was even working on a very early prototype for the sequel. Unfortunately, it was reportedly unimpressive and the developer has since lost practically all of its staff. SK doesn't seem capable of handling a sequel to Eternal Darkness even with Nintendo's help. I think we have to accept that a sequel is not going to happen.

Yeah I don't expect one from Silicone Knights, which judging by their current output is good.

I do expect to see a sequel this generation, especially if they are trying to provide 'mature' games. I could see Retro doing the sequel down the road, depending on their next game.

At the very least I want a VC version of the original.

Having just finished DQ9, both DQ10 and a WIIU have become my most wanted items for 2013. The 8-4 play impressions pushed me over the edge. I'm not interested in anything else beside Bayo 2 and Untitled Monolith RPG.

Has this been confirmed?

monster hunter ultimate
bayonetta 2
pikmin 3
wonderful 101
rayman legends
I believe smash is targetted for a 2013 release as well but knowing sakurai.. I'm about 95% confident we'll see a delay.

Not a bad lineup thus far, especially considering the recent nintendo policy of not really speaking about games more than 2 quarters away from release. We really have no idea about the 3DS past Q2 of next year either. I'm sure they'll have more to spring on us at e3 though, to combat potential MS/Sony console reveals.
