The Giant Bomb Quick Look Thread 2

All of Patrick's QLs are terrible because instead of focusing on the game he just talks on and on about tangential topics as if we care about which game industry people he knows or how much he (pretends) to know about everything OTHER than the game. It's as if he's trying to show off his knowledge of the game, but since he hasn't actually played it and is only basing it off what he's read and heard, he is unable to say anything insightful and comes off as bring pretentious.

Meh, every industry have to have their hipsters. I am already used to it since I am really into indie music and most of them are Patrick-like personel. At least we don't have an abondance of them in the gaming indiustry and I really don't mind Patrick that much.

The Rising QL was great. Even when Brad was getting clobbered, it looked like he was having a fun time, which is definitely one of the hallmarks of a good action game.

Kinda regretting not pre-ordering this back when I could lock it in for cheaper. Ah well.

How much of the Quicklooks do you guys normally watch? I only watch full QL's if it's a game I'm interested in, otherwiser I usually watch a few mins, skip around a little and then quit if the game doesn't seem particularly interesting.

I haven't seen ToeJam and Earl since the early 90s and I can't handle how fucking rad it is. The swag on those walking animations! Downloading right now.

If it's something I don't care about, i'll leave it on in the background and listen to it while I'm doing other things.

If I'm not interested in the game and Jeff or Vinny is in the video I'll watch some and leave the audio running while I do something else. If there's no Jeff or Vinny, I'll only watch if I'm interested in the game. If I'm low on time, I'll skip to the end of the video because you can usually deduce what they think of it just from the last minute or so.

I watch all of them without skipping anything. Which has currently led to a substantial backlog of QLs. Haven't really seen much of the latest ones because I'm still catching up.

I've been skipping over a lot of QLs he's in because of stuff like this, really bothers me. Couse, he's been in A LOT of them lately. :\

Agree completely with this. Like him better on bombcast though, and some of his articles are pretty good.

Also, who the fuck has played Bayonetta and cannot remember that it has a dodge button. It's pretty much one of THE most important mechanics (or "systems" as they like to say) in the game.

The Botchamania thing Jeff mentioned on the WWE Quick Look is very cool. The guy doing that stuff is extremely observant and makes very entertaining videos even if you have no clue about wrestling. I think it actually has some similarities to Red Letter Media in that sense.

The same things about Patrick that make him good at his news job make him annoying in Quick Looks.

I generally watch the whole things.

There are a couple of recent (long) QLs that I abandoned part of the way through (Halo and Farm Sim), but I'm not sure if it is worth going back to finish them.

The MGS Revengeance looks pretty good. It doesn't really have the look or feel of a MGS title, but it looks like a lot of fun.

Raiden really sounds like Goku when he's slashing sometimes, haha.

I skip all Brad/Patrick QL's unless it's a game that I'm really, really interested in. If someone can name a good QL with JUST those two, I will change my mind, but there's no 'funny' in any of their quick looks. I also skip a lot of the 'indie darling' games that get QL'd

Ill have it on the side of the screen while I do shit. Its nice background noise

I try to watch all of them, but I'll skim through the games I'm not terribly interested in/running slowly.

I tend not to finish QL's unless someone posts here or in the comments about some amazing moments.

You usually have a good idea of the game after a few min of menus and a few min of gameplay.

Oh weird, I thought you were talking about GAFers who preferred the original GB cast.

Revengeance looks like fun as fuck. Huge Bayonetta vibe. I need a dodge button though.
I don't think you really need one, there's an automated Z-targeting so parrying per enemy isn't really an issue, at least in the demo.

While obviously people are comparing it to Bayonetta due to the genre/developer, it doesn't play anything like it, it's more like PoP'08 meets Ninja Gaiden. I don't think anyone is going to go hog wild with the precision cutting in general play, it's pointless.

So many games in that Midway Arcade QL. Felt like it lasted for hours, haha. Really bummed about the Smash TV controls, but at least there's the store versions. Looks like a nice collection of titles, though, all things said.

Okami HD... Maybe this is the excuse I needed to pick it up. Seems like a fun little title, but, like Patrick, I avoided it because of the time requirements. It's dumb, since I've played much longer games, but still... His story about drunkenly throwing his game out the window made me laugh. How bizarre, haha.

Brad was really digging the slicing in the Rising demo! I kind of laughed at that because he was really down on it last year.

What aspect of it is like PoP'08?

You still can't skip every bit of dialogue in Okami HD? This is the second time they could have fixed it and still didn't.

I love Okami to bits, I really do, but that's pretty fucking stupid.

The skippable text is how it was in the original. So basically, they lied.

It's heavily parry based, and the auto-locking on enemies gives it a one on one feel even though there are often more enemies in the encounter. They back off and wait in the demo quite a bit, like Assassin's Creed.

Who knows, I've only played the demo, anything could happen with the finished game, but within the demo, the combat reminds me a lot of PoP'08 really.

Watching the Midway Origins QL, I never realized how fuckin' awesome the music is in Marble Madness.

oh god I forgot how good Sinistar's yell is.

ARRRRRAAAAUUGHGHGHGH

Yeah...that QL made it look like it'd be a fun little game to romp through, but the lack of RPG mechanics is really disappointing.
