Video: Bronies (grown men) invade little girls' section of Toys R Us

Alot of Broniephobes out there in the world. They were born this way, just leave em alone. You think they are gonna turn your kids into bronies or something?

Well this is insensitive. What would've happened if you sat next to him? Some of his Bronie goo would get on you?

Once I sat next to a Brony on a bus. I could tell because he was wearing a MLP shirt. He was a massive fat person who took up a third of my seat and his sweat was getting all over my arm. It was obvious that he hadn't taken a bath in days. He starting bugging me about MLP and shoving some MLP toys he brought along with him in my face and his stench was making it hard to breathe. Eventually I said I wasn't interested in MLP and he started trying to punch me with his arms which had obviously never seen a gym and I had to go sit somewhere else.

Actually, this never happened. But I don't sit next to Bronies because I know it will.

I think confusion over 18-35 year old males fawning over something specifically targeted to female sub-18 year old demographic is expected.

A false equivalency would be equating it to people who like video games. Especially if that was something that was part of your childhood. Maybe I am mistaken but I don't believe MLP fans grew up with the show and love it because of the nostalgia associated with it.

I more recently have started hating videogames anyway. That's why I stay in off-topic.

I just don't understand MLP because it was something that was reviled when I was a kid, like the Care Bears. If you were a boy and you watched My Little Pony you got your ass kicked, at the very least you got made fun of. I didn't realize things had changed that much in the last twenty years.

The pre-internet days when nobody admitted to racing home after school to catch Sailor Moon. Now everyone's embarrassing hobbies are celebrated. I am shocked that so many bronies are adults though.

The thing that mystifies me the most about this video is bronie fascination with the toys. As the toys aren't very good based on what I've seen.

Even as collectibles, they don't really match the appearance of the characters or art style of the show. They could be a lot better.

The brony/bronie thing is mostly based around the new show and not childhood, AFAIK. The new show is cute. It can be pretty funny and self-aware, but then most kid's cartoons produced these days have higher quality writing than was typical a decade ago. IMO, not as good as shows like Fosters because the heavy toy tie-in makes it a little too plastic.

There are a lot of people who find the new show amusing but wouldn't say they're a brony. The organized fandom is, I think, pretty unexpected. But by and large, I can't help but feel it's mostly based around the art style and character design style; its an iconography thing. I once remarked the new MLP finally gets Americans the closest thing to their version of "moe" you're likely to see.

To be fair to the cartoon, the show's creator did say she intended it to be something parents (and fathers, not just moms) could watch with their kids and enjoy. Probably why the writing is as witty as it is.

The fuck is wrong with ya'll? These dudes are just living their lives and have gained friendship with each other thanks to My Little pony. Why is that a big deal? I'm sure some of you are going to act the same way come Sunday when the Wii U is released. But that's different because it's you and not them, right?

You'd think people posting on an internet message board about fucking video games and other "geeky" topics would have a little more respect to those that get ridiculed for hobbies and personal likes that aren't necessarily popular with the mainstream. Christ, this boils my blood. Ya'll should know better.

I'm sure you're just a living, breathing Adonis, aren't you?

Oh my god not the internet! And video games! That shit's for geeks, because this is 1992!

Also this is not a videogame forum.

I can... not necessarily understand, but at least comprehend anime/otaku/Science Fiction/DnD/Harry Potter/etc fans.

But this My Little Pony shit is simply fucking gross. It's not for grown men, the creators of the show have come out and said it was only ever intended for young girls. The whole subculture where gaggles of creepy 20+ year old male nerds gather to do fuck knows what is out of control.

Just listen to some of the interviews that Howard Stern had at some MLP convention, it's all this weird sexual shit:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UUcjKln4zhc

The whole situation is honestly nauseating. I just know society will look back on this in 10 years and wonder why these sexually perverse people weren't put on a sexual-attack warning list or something.

When I was flying to Seattle (or Boston, can't remember), some guy boarded wearing a My Little Pony t-shirt, messenger bag with a pony on it, MLP hat, and an MLP lanyard. Needless to say, that flight just got 20% cooler.
Fixed.

I'm a bit more confused at so many bronies in one place at one time, but whatever. People need something to be fans of. I don't hate on them for choosing MLP. (Says the man with the Pokemon avatar)

You do realize videogames are mainstream as hell right?

Sure but I also think there's a difference between liking and playing video games and posting on forums about them. I also think it's really fucked that instead of treating those that have found their niche in life and have forged friendships with respect, people have chosen to mock them. Everyone has that thing they're really into and it isn't fair to shit on them because you don't like whatever it is, especially when it isn't hurting anyone.

I personally think the internet love of MLP is dumb (I don't see the appeal) but I'll defend the right of those to love it without shame and treat them with the same respect I'd want in return. You may not agree with me and wish to continue the mockery but maybe I can convince some to feel differently.

Funny because I was pretty sure the GAF in Neogaf stood for gaming age forum.

And I think you're kinda being a jerk and missing the point.

They are weirdos but it's not like it hurts anything. I find the people who get irrationally angry at them to be odder.

You do realize videogames are mainstream as hell right? It's far from a hobby at this point. It's the biggest entertainment industry arguably.

Also, I am just confused about the bronies. No hate, just confusion.

It's a funny lighthearted show with a great fanbase. Granted, it's not for everyone, but some people enjoy a funny show that avoids meanspirited humor. It's too rare these days, and ponies were a great change of pace. The show's quality has dipped (I think at least) but the community stays strong, making it an enjoyable show to keep up with.

Sure it's not the best cartoon out there, (Adventure Time and Gravity Falls are both better to name a few) but the community is top notch and really makes me glad to be part of the fandom. Sure I wouldn't necessarily want to hang out with the people in the video, but I'm not gonna hate on them for getting excited.

Yeah man, check those bronies out. What a bunch of weirdos.

Now if you'll excuse me my eighty-dollar figurine of mai waifu Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow just arrived.

Once I sat next to a Brownie on a bus. I could tell because he was wearing a MLP shirt. He was a massive fat person who took up a third of my seat and his sweat was getting all over my arm. That's racist.

Where am I mocking people. I truly don't understand.

The mountains of fetish porn and bizarre religious/political fan art is much more entertaining than the show itself.

Freudian slip?

I'm using you as a broad, general term for anyone reading my post. Not singling you out, sorry if it came off that way.

These Bronies seem harmless. Only the ones who sexualize the ponies should be ridiculed cuz that shit is just creepy.

Sure, yeah. That's taking it too far. This video? Just some guys enjoying a show and buying merchandise. It's very much a live and let live situation.

From 1 to 'Lady Gaga fan', I'd say these dudes are a 3.

I can't hate this. They aren't hurting anyone, and they look like they've found a bunch of like-minded people to hang out with. Where's the problem? This is coming from someone who's seen half of one episode ever.

Oh, and as always, anyone who would consider anyone else sexually perverse simply for enjoying a certain type of legitimate media needs to take a long, hard look at themselves.

On one hand: we've all got our hobbies/obsessions/passions, etc. I'm not going to judge someone out-right for being an enthusiast. It doesn't hurt or effect my life in anyway, so have at it.

On the other: I do raise an eyebrow when guys in their 20's are enthusiasts for an IP that is so clearly meant for nine year-old girls.

I'm really confused about how to feel about the whole Brony phenomena.

I don't hate them either, I just can't understand it at all.

I think it's the first nerdom fanbase that can't fathom why it's so big.

Nerds hate each other for some reason.

Shocking I know.

This video is so harmless. You might think their hobby is weird but most of society thinks you are a weirdo if you sit on your ass all day and play fighting games / halo / whatever.

I like MLP, I think its an entertaining show. I don't associate myself with certain parts of the subculture but thats literally true for every single thing I enjoy in my life.

Just because it seems to be relevant to what many are saying.

The person replying is Lauren Faust, the main woman responsible for the show being on the air right now.

Sorry. I never associate myself with Bronies because they're disgusting subhumans, so I'm not used to spelling it.

I've honestly actually never spelled it before that post though. My bad, I'll go change it.

Why are they even called Bronies? I thought it was exclusive to males (the word "bro" being in the word) but it isn't.

what do you live with mormons? videogames stopped being weird many years ago

To each their own.

I'm curious if this is an ironic love for some of these guys or full blown fanaticism..

I've seen the cartoon, and its in the style of other funny cartoons I've loved myself, so I can see the appeal.. the new show was a really clever reinvention that made this kind of thing possible. It takes it closer to dexter and powerpuff girls, which I do believe were unisex and designed to entertain adults as well as children.. I think that is why its nabbing male viewers and fans

I am very confused now. I thought this Brony stuff was all fake and those guys are just trolling everybody ... But this shit is real? They really like that stuff? Why? Serious question why do grown men like this stuff? It makes no sense and its freaking me out.

ITS FREAKING ME OUT PEOPLE!!

Naw man, you got it all twisted. We had to wake up at like 4 AM in the morning just to watch it. Never really got around to watching the entirety of Sailor Moon though.

Wait, what the hell? lol - since when did this happen? I live in Utah. Completely opposite. Mormons love their games!

I don't understand. Is the obsession due to some attempt to be funny or ironic. Like "look at me I'm a post-pubescent male who loves a show made for the exact opposite demographic" .

I always thought it was like the situation with people liking lil b's music, it was ironic at first, but after a while lines got blurred and people couldn't really even tell if they themselves were fans or not anymore.
