Oh, I don't know how it was in the US, but we Trekkies (and nerds in general) used to be considered not only borderline sociopaths, but also you know, girly. Reading and science were not macho enough activities back in the day. To see the same crap pattern repeated again with the bronies is truthly something. Always found the visceral hatred for this fanbase somewhat hypocritical. Were it a children's cartoon aimed at young males, no one would have a problem, as proven by the lack of hatred of fans of A:tLA, Young Justice, Teen Titans, and various other children's cartoons that get love on these boards.

However, because it's a girl's cartoon (created with the express purpose of being a cartoon aimed at girls, like most boy's cartoons are aimed at boys, instead of a cartoon only for girls) there's something wrong with the people who enjoy it?

I'm not a fan, and I find the swarm mentality some of these groups a occasionally demonstrate odd, but some of you folks could really do with getting over yourselves.

I don't think that's the point at all. It's not a case of boy liking to play with barbie doll's or liking pink and purple colors and the gender role stereotyping or reversal.

It's that they get offended, like seriously offended that it's a show for little kids and that they are in some sort of mass delusion that it's made specifically for the brony.

I can understand a cartoon being entertaining for both kids and adults. Animaniacs and Batman both did that even Pixar movies do that. It's the obsession is what's weird and calling themselves the true intended audience.

I've never seen a single episode of this pony stuff btw. Though, I remember that it was already being hyped before the first season started, since it was made by the people who made Powerpuff Girls or whatever. Not really surprising that people like something that appears to be a quality show.

When you have a show that's heavily aimed towards (indirectly) promoting toys then yeah, some people are going to buy them like crazy. The show is also surprisingly well-written and funny for what it is (a girl's cartoon), so even people outside of the intended demographic has found it enjoyable. I'm a fan of the show and I guess by definition that makes me a brony, but I'm very hesitant to call myself one because of the negative image that comes with it. Not all bronies are crazy, in the same way as all anime fans aren't weeaboos and not all Christians are fundamentalist nutters. But it is of course very possible that the percentage of crazies is higher among the bronies than the other groups I mentioned.

My 6 year old boy loves MLP too and inevitably I've ended up watching the show with him at times.

The thing is, MLP is just like any other cartoon aimed at young children. It's meant to be funny for both the kids and the adults. If a cartoon wants to be successful, then it has to have a level of humor and enjoyment that the adults who end up watching with their kids can understand and enjoy, or they wont watch it. If the adults don't watch it then the kids are less apt to watch it and if nobody is watching then nobody is buying.

So, MLP has a level of humor above that of it's targeted age group of pre-teen kids. It's actually well-written for a cartoon and the visual gags are always top notch. Is it on the level of Phineas and Ferb or Gravity Falls? No, but it's not offensive and has identifiable and relatable characters. I honestly think the backlash to adult men liking the show is far more unnerving to the grown men liking the show.

People need to grow up and realize that sometimes people are going to like things that you don't understand.
