The Giant Bomb Quick Look Thread 2

It's completely understandable, we've had plenty of horde modes this generation. I never understood the infatuation with them in the first place (to the point that now even Dishonored is getting its own horde mode).

What weirds me out is the fact that Jeff apparently thinks the CODBLOPS2 singleplayer campaign is "impressive". I haven't played it yet (will in the next few days), but from what I've seen so far in the Quick Look I'd be hard pressed to point out anything interesting. Especially after playing the fantastic Halo 4.

Judging a campaign based on a bit of the first mission seems like a pretty reasonable thing to do.

Reading the campaign impressions in other threads, it doesn't seem like this iteration deviates too much from the tried and tired Call of Duty formula. Jeff being down on the Halo 4 singleplayer because it is, in his opinion, more of the same while only a few days later calling this stuff "impressive" certainly seems very strange.

Have you read his review?

Where you even listening to what he was describing as impressive though? He wasn't speaking about the narrative itself as much as the actual deviations in question and how they appear somewhat creatively utilised.

Dude he hated Zombies in every COD and likes Spec-Ops which is also a horde mode. I always thought that Zombies in COD is at least doing interesting stuff with he base building, changes to the maps, power ups etc.

Spec Ops isn't a horde mode. There was a type of Spec Ops in MW3 that was a horde mode, but that's it.

ZOE 2 was so rad, to this day Zero Shift is one of the coolest things I've ever seen in a game. Hope this quick look isn't bitchy (about the game itself at least).

ZoE2 is pretty slick, shame about the crappy escort mission though, but ZoE1 is rubbish.

EDIT: And Kojima has more than expressed interest in ZoE3...

I could never get the hang of ZOE2. Makes me feel like a dog in one of those "I have no idea what I'm doing" pictures. Sucks 'cause it really seems up my alley.

Yay for saving me $60 GB.

Black Ops 2 looks like a crass and ugly game in more ways than one. From the color palette and low resolution textures to the random chopping off people's heads and stabbing in the neck with a machete.

No thanks.

Is it just me or has giantbombs servers become amazingly slow? I often have trouble streaming their videos now. :/

Edit : Just saw in the other thread.

I just gave up on streaming content from their site. It's slow and weirdly pixelated, even on HD. I always go to youtube, which is why I think we should start posting the youtube link to QLs in the future along with the link to the GB site.

I download their stuff with jdownloader, which almost triples the speed compared to dling straight via browser.

ZOE 3 for PS4 launch. Do it Koj!

I played both back in the day, still have Second Runner kicking around in a garage somewhere. Like Patrick, I'm not sure if I ever finished the second one, it got pretty freaking hard at certain points.

Gorgeous games, not sure I want to revisit these two again though.

Someone tell me that I'm not the only one a little unnerved by a videogame having you follow orders from Oliver North to go to the Angolan Civil War and run across fields chopping off heads with a machete.

Nope, that sounds pretty shitty.

Not looking forward to hearing Arthur Gies talk about it, though.

I'm sitting here waiting for the giant bomb podcast to show up.

I wish they kept a timely schedule for this. Quicklooks today didn't really catch my enjoyment.

For all that talk about big changes for the campaign in Jeff's Black Ops 2 review, I didn't really see anything for me to get excited about in that quick look.

Is Vin Diesel the MP announcer in Blops 2? Sounds like him

One of the team announcers is the same VO for the generic white males in New Vegas. I've played a lot of New Vegas and every time I hear him say something it gives me a random flashback to that game. Its driving me crazy.

I never played the ZOE games, but I always wanted to.

Man, the leap from 1 to 2 is very significant. Sorry to hear about the framerate, but looks like it would definitely be worth playing still. Going to have to grab this. Looks like a lot of fun! Well, 2 at least.

Also, the lady telling him to use the burst attack reminded me of FLUDD from Mario Sunshine's voice.

Seeing an African man's head fly off in a bloody arc as the result of a machete attack was possibly the first time a videogame has prompted me to think to myself "This may be in poor taste."

It seems that videos that been recently posted are really slow, like they haven't spread properly to all servers yet. Videos that are one day or older works just fine. This is what I experience in the official xbmc addon. If I watch new videos on the site they work fine.

That quick look turned my stomach on more than a few occasions.

I have to assume that what bothers me is both the "realistic" context in which the cartoonish beheadings are taking place, and the whole machetes butchering Africans thing.

If the Call of Duty games had any semblance of maturity or sophistication in terms of tone or content, maybe this kind of violence would be there intentionally to make you reflect on something. But I don't think that's what's going on.

I thought it was poignant how Jeff wandered aimlessly around the battlefield, contemplating the futility of the conflict, then chopped off a man's head.
