Video: Bronies (grown men) invade little girls' section of Toys R Us

This thread just reminds me of the sad fact that animated series' just plain suck these days. You are not supposed to think of the show as for "kids" or "adults", you are supposed to think of quality first and foremost. And what makes animation different from real acting. This two combined alone will create a good show.

Remember Ren & Stimpy? Remember how it was praised by kids and adults? Early Simpsons? Bugs Bunny? These shows weren't being targeted to a narrow lane of audience or chopped to a numbing monotonous theme so that they wouldn't offend anyone. That's the biggest sin of any animated show.

MLP may not be great, but there are some genuinely fantastic animated series these days.

Bronies is just a slang term of someone who is an adult male that likes the series, it doesn't mean anything else. In other words, it's like saying "Oh those Mario fans are all the same."

What is a fan? a person who likes something, so in other words, there's no way all share some collective mindset with the same exact thoughts. All that can really be said is they like the show, not that they do all types of other things unless proven otherwise, and that's not because they are a fan of it that they do that.

Perhaps. But there is a very specific counter culture which obviously identify themselves as Bronies. Maybe you are just being obtuse, maybe not, but I have a feeling you know what I mean.

You could say that about anything anyone has ever been a fan of, including Mario. It's not because they are fans of MLP, these types of people exist regardless of the content that is liked.

Remember, all fans are people.

I'll admit it is a bit weird.

But it's more about the placement of the toys in the shop. I find toy stores to be quite sickening when it comes to placing genders into colors. If the sections was neutral, this would not be cared about as much.

Agreed

Nope, it's you picking out the most extrovert part of the fanbase, part of which may have fun in simply trolling the public. They are putting huge "bronie" signs up so YOU know who they are.

But as Kokonoe said, it's actually just a slang for adult male fan. Like US right wing Christians are not "the Christians", eventhough they act as if they are. *Europe is safe, thanks to Rainbow Dash* :-P

So fans of Kurt Vonnegut novels buy Vonnegut figurines from Toys R Us, or buy 100 pies from McDonalds to build a fort for their Vonnegut action figure?

I just don't understand the huge obsession some have for it. Sure I love me some cartoons, but I don't become a part of this counter culture to show my love for those shows.
The fact that it is character-driven plays a large part in that, I think.

A simple gimmick (anything with ponies is instantly recognisable as MLP) and a story focus on social interactions probably help it in getting fan art, and gif-references on message boards respectively. Though, reasonably high animation quality was obviously a prerequisite for the latter.

PPG was shitty too, don't know how people are using it as a counter argument. Maybe other than "I was 12 when I watched it", instead of 28.

watched the series just recently, its actually better than i remember.

hey man
Genndy Tartakovsky is a legend

he worked on the show, but Craig McCracken made PPG.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Craig_McCracken

he also made Fosters home for imaginary friends, and is married to Lauren Faust, the one who rebooted MLP.

in fact Craig helped design the S2 villain Discord.

writer is no small role

i just said he worked on the show.

Gennedy is amazing, im not saying he isnt.

Symbionic Titan is one of the best shows ive ever seen, and fuck CN for cancelling it, same goes for Samurai Jack.

bring back Titan and Samurai Jack CN, 2 of the best shows ever, they deserve a real ending.

What? You were the one who was generalizing when you said that fans of every kind of content have members as extreme as some of these Bronies are.

I feel you have misread what was said. You just made a post essentially saying that all of the people who like the show My Little Pony do that.
I said that those types of people exist regardless, and you know why? Because it's not because you are a fan that you do something, it's because of whatever other desire you might have.

Let's say people are fighting game fans, you can't say every single person who plays fighting games will throw their arcade stick when they lose in a tournament.

Sometimes a generalization is made with a large enough sample size to be completely accurate.

Just because it seems to be relevant to what many are saying.

The person replying is Lauren Faust, the main woman responsible for the show being on the air right now.[/QUOTE]

While that video seems easy to poke fun at, I agree. I loved Fosters Home For Imaginary Children when it was on the air. I was 18 - 20s at the time, the episodes were interesting. I haven't seen a pony episode yet but it's made by the same people I hear. I'm sure they made the show awesome.

What does the things they bought look like anyway? A figure or cards?

Sorry why do these basement dwellers who think they're unique snowflakes by liking that shitty show deserve yet another 20 page thread?

We should combine the two

Ahahaha... so, math-bro, what exactly are your numbers? People who identified as bronies vs general fans? Percentage of bronies who would go out into the open with it? Percentage of actionists bronies vs "the silent" part?
Numbers, anything?
Oh man... *hahaha*

Because of your delicious hate. Us bronies use only a single thread for talk but hey, then we have people like you making a new "omg, wtf, look at those guys" thread and you keep posting in it too.

Reminds of of a quote from the Howard Stern movie (just from memory),

"His fans on average listen to him 40 minutes a day."
"Okay, but he has a lot of enemies too."
"Yeah, they spend an average of 60 minutes each day with his program."
"What???"
"They keep on listening to see what kind of stupid stuff he comes up next to hate on him."

And from this phenomenon, threads like this are born :-P

A lot

I would fucking buy a 1000 pies from McDonalds to build a Vonnegut fort. And then I'd take pictures of my dog named Vonnegut inside the McDonalds Vonnegut fort and shell it with Vonnegut books.

I'm just saying, I like Vonnegut.

The Neogaf law of fanbases states that you cannot be a fan of something unless you want to have sex with it. So can I take this as a confession that you're a necrophile? :P
