There is an alternative cover for the other robots.
Next month page is just a photograph dark, textured wood floor. May scan later but I don't think there's much to it.

I'm really surprised how Hotline Miami has received so much mainstream coverage, crazy. Pretty middling scores all around, what did they give the other Halos?

Pretty polarizing scores for ZombiU so far. First a 92, then a 4.5 and now a 7.

Would love to hear what they have to say about it since I find Edge to be fairly competent reviewers.

"You're getting and 8! You're getting an 8! You're all getting 8s!!!"

Except for MoH of course.

This is a myth from old Edge reviews. It's not been true for a long time. Edge has fully adopted the modern review scale.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, considering their recent issues just run the ol' murky 7-9 gamut. I've never been much of a review person, but lately more than ever the scoring systems just seem so banal and useless even among sites that were a little rougher in the past. Although I'd imagine they're, in reality, used for little more other than pissing matches anyway, given some of our review threads in recent years.

Wish we could see more alternative rankings, which encourage and melded in with the text some more, though I doubt that's quite as good for hits.

I'd say that's pretty good for Edge.

Can we get a summary?
Sure.

"ZombiU makes the relationship between TV and GamePad screens feel fresh, and - displaying a clear awareness of horror gaming conventions - it toys with you brilliantly [...] and contribute to sophisticated shocks. The GamePad's new way to play also presents new ways for you to be played, and the resulting surprises are often delightful."

They go on to lament a back tracking section towards the end of the game, and a loss of "earthy realism" in the cheaper, fantastical enemies as the game progresses.

edit. I noticed they also said that the game fails to capture London's ethnic diversity, which was a concern of mine from the trailers also. Minor point, but a missed opportunity for Montpellier.
A new console is launching and they put Transformers on the cover

Just sayin'!
Next month maybe. Even the PS vita got a cover on the new Edge format.

Walruses, camels, bears, rabbits, tigers and badgers.
Sure.

Thank you.

Dammit, I knew the bump in length at the end of development was going to end up being some stupid backtracking element.

Edge only scoring games on a 7 to 9 scale is a load of bull. Look at Medal of Honor, Resi 6 or Epic Mickey 2 today.

http://www.edge-online.com/review/disneys-epic-mickey-2-the-power-of-two-review/

And didn't get CoD Blops Declassified a 2?

What really matters is what they have to say about it though and I tend to find their reviews much better written than most.
The 7 to 9 scale doesn't literally mean they only give 7 to 9s. The Metacritic of RE6 is high sixties, clearly lots of 7 to 9 publications dipped below their norm. It's just a statement as to what an 'average' game scores. It should be pretty easy to calculate what the average Edge score this year is.

AC3 get an 8, AC3 Liberation a 7. That's kinda what I was expecting of the reviews for Liberation to be like, compared to its big brother

I think people need to realise that Edge has a small staff, not a lot of money and don't have time or paper to waste on games that are obviously going to be shitty.
Recap of Hitman and ZombiU?
Sure

"It's at it's best, in other words, when it's simply being Hitman. But Absolution spends a great deal of time not being Hitman at all, at least not as we know it.

More importantly, only a precious few of Absolution's stages take the form of typical hits. There's a couple of stand out non-hit levels [...] but the rest are guard-filled stealth sections with snappy action sequences, or quasi-traditional levels that do have targets but drop 47 in hostile environments from the start. [...] they seem eager to nudge you towards conflict.

Absolution would rather players adapt to mistakes than reload, too; the inability to save whenever you wish can lead to punitive restarts."

They loved the contracts multi player mode and say it even saves some of the game's weaker levels by allowing you to create your own missions.

Fuck this game sounds terrible. Sorry for butchering the review ;_;
What wasted potential.

Looks like there is a bit a backlash against Microsoft for Halo 4 without Bungie being there. It definitively affected some scores and GOTY considerations. However, Halo 4 is far and away the best Halo game ever crafted. More proof that these scores have lost their relevance and meaning. I view them now as a good / bad scoring system. 7 and up means the games ok and anything lower means it is technically suspect. I remember back in the original Xbox days all the fights and brew ha ha about review scores ahaha. So glad those days are behind us.

The average score for Edge over the last five months is a 7.2.
Their average score is higher than usual because they don't review really shitty games anymore unless it is from a big franchise or hugely anticipated. They also said they give out 10s far easily now than they used to in the past. They became more generous, but they don't operate on the same scale as most other publications for sure.
