Does anyone have a link to that gaf thread about the "Digimon Event"? I remember that whole thing being pretty creepy.

Notice how some sfx are off and such? It's probably for pitching

With that said I kinda thought Shoutmon's voice actually is fine.

Speaking of which, earlier in this thread I mentioned about Tamers being the fall of Digimon in Japan - and I was right after all! Its ratings didn't reflect the poor merchandise of the show as per WtW. With that said, 02 was the peak of the franchise.
 
Apparently it was Shoutmon's strength that made everyone in the video game meet in a crossover.

As long as they acknowledge Shoutmon's power, I don't mind B)
 
Has Konaka done anything else substantial since his work on Tamers and his other circa-2000 anime?

I really loved his work with Tamers. He even took the time to send me some lengthy responses to some e-mails that I sent to him around nine or ten years ago; he's definitely a class act.
 
Didnt know there was a Digimon thread. Got the Digimon Adventure s1 DVD set since it was so low cost, so now I can finally actually watch Digimon Adventure. Ive only like seen the majority of Tamers, and thats just about it.

Im up to episode 4 of Adventure. TK is my favorite character along with Patamon for the best digimon thus far, which I cant wait to see it go Champion.

The Matt and Tk brother thing was touching really, especially how he tried to not show that he cares that much for TK in front of him, but everyone else can tell even TK. Matt and Tai are nice too, they really carry the show forward and keep things interesting.

Birdramon is pretty ugly though. Though where are the black gears even coming from?

Dang it's rare that someone in this day and age is seeing this for the first time. If you're liking those character dynamics so far then I think you'll definitely love Adventure. IMO it has the best character development in the series with some of the best characters as well.

The monsters are ignorable and you're pretty much "developed" if you're a side character though.

Then again that's much better than 02 lol

I'd agree if you solely refer to Henry... and maybe at some point Rika (god I want to punch her face). Takato I want to run over with a steam roller. I really hate inactive characters who are dumb for the sake of the audience.

Why do you think that Takato is inactive and dumb for the sake of the audience? I'm interested.

Watching through Adventure again has reminded me how meh the series is up until Episode 21 (god bless Hosoda) before falling into a lull again before they hit the real world. Really, even just the animation quality of 21 makes me wish the rest of the series was animated that way.

Takato is being touted as the audience surrogate. Honestly I thought it was for "naive, dumb characters appeal to people" crap.

You want great human characters? Savers is the best to watch. You want great Digimon characters? Xros Wars is the best to watch.

I can totally get disliking the animation in that episode, but when compared to the quality of the rest of the series at that point, it's a very nice change. Even the actual direction in that episode is leagues beyond anything up to that episode; the scenes are dense. Granted, the slower pace of the episode really fits the content (the contrast between the slowness of the real world and the chaos in the Digital World), but even the cinematography shines in comparison to the rest of the series.

Yeah, I'd argue closer to the audience surrogate idea (even though I do admit that there is a bit of the "naive character" thing involved). Tamers was the first to really attempt to convey a focus on consequence from the first episode (Adventure did this, but once again during the second half), so I found Takato's reaction/inaction to be relatively realistic. Everything about his character was average (especially in comparison to Henry and Rika): his family, his hobbies, his personality. I think the series, aside from a few rough spots during the Digital World/D-Reaper arc, did a really great job of creating a really strong character arc where a really impressive character is molded out of an initially average base.

I still haven't seen Xros Wars, but I will agree that Savers has some really great human characters (by Digimon standards anyways), but, even then, they don't really come through until halfway during the series.
 
And that's why I don't like audience surrogate types - it feels like they're very uninteresting for the sake of the reader to relate.

And when Savers does their human characters it's really well done. Something rare too, in that even Yoshino gets to hang out with the males (despite being terrible in combat).

Two favorites, good art. Anyway alright set of episodes on digimon I just dont really care about. However for Izzy (I just realized he sounds exactly like Beat from Eternal Sonata) he has an interesting backstory that must be explored, I hope it happens soon, as it was cut off for more pressing plot reasons.

Video quality on 7 was kind of blurry, odd for a dvd, but I guess it is what it is?

IMO 1-13 are pretty standard and nothing too special. It's after that that I think the show really start to kick in and get good. I personally love the real world stuff and it's my favorite arc in the season hands down. The first episode in the real world is also one of my favorites because the mood is such a drastic contrast to what it normally is; and for a good reason too.
 
Wait, Digimon is coming back to the US? THE Digimon? Of the Digital Monsters Digimon? Somebody hold me. It'd be a dream come true if CN picked up the show. Do you guys think this could lead to us getting that Digimon PSP game that came out not too long ago? Or maybe that other new Digimon game based on the first series? Gah. This is just so exciting. I can't believe that Digimon is actually coming to the US. I never thought I'd see new Digimon in English ever again.

Fusion's probably going to air on Saban's Vortex block on The CW. As for the PSP games, PSP software isn't exactly known for being big sellers in the west, and given they would be 2013 releases at this point I wouldn't expect either to come over.

I get CW, so I'm okay with that. And I guess you're right about the video games. Who cares though? Digimon is coming back! WHOO!
 
What I don't get is if Saban's gonna air it, why is there a need to do a investor/market trailer?

Because they have the license for more than just North America. They also may be looking for a secondary US network to run repeats as The Vortexx is only once a week.
 
Hmm could be.

I was wondering if it was Disney that suddenly made TOEI take all international licensing, since prior to Savers all Digimon aired here under their original names. Savers here was awkward, as it uses Data Squad footage but uses Savers names, etc. I was wondering why Digimon Xros Wars hasn't aired in my country yet, so I guess I can chalk it up to Saban gaining license for international stuff then?

Strange though, as Italy, France (I think) and Korea got Xros Wars.

Decided to get 02, well preorder it, though I wonder if Amazon will deep price drop again. 55$ it currently is at is better than $70 though, so I may just go with that in the interest of time.

Hoping for lots of Tai/Davis moments.

Mixed, but generally okay.

I didnt like it that much since they took away the partner digimon aspect which is the heart of Digimon imo.

They esentally replaced taiki with a scatterbain idiot why?
 
Yeah like I said, I consider the third part to be DLC since the series technically concluded in the second part.

With that said, Gumdramon is awesome.
 
Yeah I thought the 3rd part of that series had so much wasted potential. It was clearly made just for the final few episodes. There was so much that could have been done with the characters and new ways of digivolving that just never happened. Overall really disappointing.
